Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microeconomics focuses on individual units like a consumer, a producer, a firm/industry, a commodity, etc. It analyses the behaviour of one market variable at a time. In microeconomics, the commodity markets are divided into perfect competitive markets and imperfect markets. 'Microeconomic Theory and Application (Part II)' deals with imperfect markets that are broadly classified into monopoly, monopolistic competition and oligopoly. Apart from this, the book also deals with the concept of factor pricing and its various aspects, in detail. This book supplements the classroom teaching and has been developed as per the syllabus of Bcom (Hons) II year course of the University of Delhi. The book would prove to be equally useful for all microeconomics courses at the graduation level across all the universities in India.
Book Synopsis Macroeconomics After the General Theory by : Angel Asensio
Download or read book Macroeconomics After the General Theory written by Angel Asensio and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-07-08 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both Keynes’s General Theory and orthodox economics seek to understand how competitive markets work, but they diverge sharply with respect to the nature and properties of the competitive equilibrium. The reason, as Keynes himself pointed out, is that the General Theory recognises that the future consequences of current decisions are fundamentally uncertain which, contra the orthodox view, radically affects decision-making and the functioning of markets. This book approaches macroeconomics on the basis of the General Theory, of which a new exposition is offered in the first part, purged of the grey areas that resulted from the context in which it was written, and of the considerable confusion generated for almost a century by the vain attempts of orthodox thinking to integrate such novel ideas in its deficient conceptual framework. The second part aims at extending the conceptual framework to the open economy and considering how uncertainty affects international linkages. The third part proposes an integrated conceptual and formal framework for analysing how changes in the national and international context, including macroeconomic policies, affect an economy. This new examination of General Theory is a major addition to the literature on Keynes, macroeconomics, economic theory and the history of economic thought.
Book Synopsis Uncertainty in Economics by : Peter Diamond
Download or read book Uncertainty in Economics written by Peter Diamond and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Uncertainty in Economics: Readings and Exercises provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of the economics of uncertainty. This book discusses ho uncertainty affects both individual behavior and standard equilibrium theory. Organized into three parts encompassing 30 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the relevance of expected utility maximization for positive and normative theories of individual choice. This text then examines the biases in judgments, which reveal some heuristics of thinking under uncertainty. Other chapters consider the effect of restricting trade in contingent commodities to those trades that can be affected through the stock and bond markets. This book discusses as well the individual problem of sequential choice and equilibria, which are built around the notion of sequential choice. The final chapter deals with an entirely different aspect of the economics of information and reverts to the assumption that markets are perfect and costless. This book is a valuable resource for economists and students.

Book excerpt: Keynes always intended to write 'footnotes' to his masterwork The General Theory, which would take account of the criticisms made of it and allow him to develop and refine his ideas further. However, a number of factors combined to prevent him from doing so before his death in 1946. A wide range of Keynes scholars - including James Tobin, Paul Davidson and Lord Skidelsky - have written here the 'footnotes' that Keynes never did.
Book Synopsis Resale Price Maintenance and the Law by : Christy Kollmar
Download or read book Resale Price Maintenance and the Law written by Christy Kollmar and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-31 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of how to properly enforce against RPM has been a contentious debate for decades on both sides of the Atlantic. The catalyst is the acceptance that RPM can generate both anti-competitive effects and pro-competitive efficiencies that need to be properly balanced to ensure against Type I/Type II errors and to create viable legislation. Part I focuses on 100 years of US origins and the current legal approach to VR enforcement, which reveals the precedent responsible for the transition between per se illegality and the rule of reason thresholds at the federal level. Nine anti-competitive and 19 pro-competitive theoretical models are also introduced to clearly demonstrate the true nonconsensus existent between economists as to whether RPM is deleterious enough to justify a stringent approach to RPM regulation. Part II closely examines the EU origins and current legal structure, where RPM has maintained its hardcore by-object designation pursuant to Art. 101(1) TFEU with the consequence of having no safe harbours, no applicability of the De Minimus Doctrine, an onerous negative rebuttable presumption, non-severability of the agreement and almost no chance of obtaining an exemption under Art. 101(3). This is exacerbated by the EC’s lack of guidance on how to prove all conditions necessary for an Art. 101(3) exemption and when a vertical arrangement actually escapes Art. 101(1) applicability. The aim of this book is to examine the economic models, historical origins and legal structures of the US/EU regimes to develop proposals on how to modify the EU’s current legal structure to ensure proper enforcement of RPM behaviour that actually enhances legal certainty through a more aligned approach at the national level. Part III proposes five solutions which scrutinise the concepts of appreciability, hardcore and by-object restraints, to implement modifications to EU’s current legal framework to ensure RPM receives reasonable and equitable treatment in line with economic theory.
