Bert has the power to make himself invisible and he does just that to everyone but Maragold. Bert accompanies Maragold to school and as the fourth grade school year progresses, events occur that make Maragold's fourth grade experience the most fun that she has had in any grade, so far. One of Maragold's classmates is Matt Durkey. Maragold and Matt start out as enemies, and then become friends. Maragold's friends and Matt's friends create hilarious and outrageous situations as they try to out do each other with jokes, gags, insults and humorous arguments. But helping Matt may put Bert at risk with possible dangerous consequences, especially if Bert's secret weakness is discovered.

Download or read book Roman Wolfe's Adirondack Ordeal written by Bill Sheehan and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-02 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roman Wolfe is a Vietnam War veteran. More accurately, he was an expert at night time stealth combat. His silent, undetectable killings were psychological warfare at their most horrifying. They demoralized and terrified the enemy, especially when the surviving enemy kept seeing a frightening white wolf after Roman's lethal attacks. When the war ends Roman attends college, becomes a teacher, is married and has a daughter. However, all is not well with Roman's psyche. The sublime peace that he seeks is constantly shattered by episodes of depression. After a few years of on-and-off mental struggles he seeks professional assistance. While in therapy, and on a pre-Thanksgiving weekend, Roman and his wife and daughter visit his in-laws at a very rural area in Chemung, New York. While on an outdoor walk, Roman and his daughter are kidnapped by a brutal mountain-man and his two miscreant sons who are all running from the law. Roman and his daughter are driven to the Adirondack Mountains where they are forced to journey to a hunting cabin in an extremely remote wilderness area, where the white wolf appears, again.

Book Synopsis Hammonton and Marigold by : Robert Criddle
Download or read book Hammonton and Marigold written by Robert Criddle and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2007 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of one community and two towns: Hammonton and Marigold, companyowned dredger towns located 10 miles east of Marysville, California. Their founding was a direct result of the gold rush of 1849 and the subsequent hydraulic mining that followed. The towns' history was wrought by the families who inhabited them and the many men and women who would build their community together through the years. In Hammonton and Marigold, there was no upper or lower class; the people were all working for dredging companies and considered equals. Although the company towns were shut down and the families all displaced, in 1957, the community itself carried on to the present day, holding annual reunions and even publishing a quarterly newsletter.

Book excerpt: When enemies fall into temptation, love brings out the most delicious flavor of all. Marigold Lavender lights up every room she enters. Then she’s left to turn out the lights and head home alone. Soft on the inside and a go-getter on the outside, Marigold just wants to make sure everyone else is okay before worrying about herself. When an awful big-city food critic trashes her sister Aster’s new restaurant, Marigold pauses her search for her own happily-ever-after to go to war with the woman, who happens to be just as delectable as she is sour. Alexis Wakefield’s brutal honesty is what makes her successful. Her readers trust her judgment, and a few sharp strokes from her keyboard can make or break a new restaurant. When, on a whim, she reviews a small-town eatery getting lots of buzz, the owner’s sister sabotages everything, leaving her professional world in jeopardy. Marigold Lavender has gone too far and must pay for the damage she's caused.
Download or read book Marigold written by James Hershberg and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2012-01-11 with total page 936 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marigold presents the first rigorously documented, in-depth story of one of the Vietnam War's last great mysteries: the secret peace initiative, codenamed "Marigold," that sought to end the war in 1966. The initiative failed, the war dragged on for another seven years, and this episode sank into history as an unresolved controversy. Antiwar critics claimed President Johnson had bungled (or, worse, deliberately sabotaged) a breakthrough by bombing Hanoi on the eve of a planned secret U.S.-North Vietnamese encounter in Poland. Yet, LBJ and top aides angrily insisted that Poland never had authority to arrange direct talks and Hanoi was not ready to negotiate. This book uses new evidence from long hidden communist sources to show that, in fact, Poland was authorized by Hanoi to open direct contacts and that Hanoi had committed to entering talks with Washington. It reveals LBJ's personal role in bombing Hanoi as he utterly disregarded the pleas of both the Polish and his own senior advisors. The historical implications of missing this opportunity are immense: Marigold might have ended the war years earlier, saving thousands of lives, and dramatically changed U.S. political history.
