Su principal objetivo es facilitar al lector el manejo de tipos de interés, rentabilidades, valores actuales, obtención de la TAE y la TIR, etc. Los supuestos que se plantean de forma progresiva, partiendo de las operaciones básicas hasta llegar a las más complejas de forma que el lector pueda profundizar en la materia de una forma cómoda pero eficiente. Se ha dividido el manual en seis temas que permiten tener una visión integra de los conceptos matemáticos necesarios para comprender correctamente todas las operaciones financieras existentes en los mercados, así como todas aquellas novedades que continuamente van apareciendo fruto de la innovación financiera. En el primer tema se plantean supuestos que ayudan a comprender los conceptos básicos sobre los que se asienta la matemática de las operaciones financieras. En el tema siguiente se realizan ejercicios sobre capitalización simple, compuesta y descuento comercial. Los diversos supuestos planteados tienen por objetivo la obtención de montantes, intereses, valores actuales y descuentos, sustitución de varios capitales por uno sólo o viceversa, etc. Todo esto permite al lector la adquisición de una destreza suficiente para realizar una primera aproximación a la valoración de cualquier instrumento financiero. El tema destinado al estudio de las rentas financieras se inicia a partir de supuestos básicos sobre rentas constantes y temporales que se van completando con las diversas situaciones que se pueden plantear en la vida real: rentas perpetuas, diferidas, anticipadas, variables en progresión aritmética y geométrica, fraccionadas, etc. En cualquier caso, si el lector desea profundizar en los aspectos teóricos, al igual que en el resto de temas, puede consultar el manual del mismo autor “Matemáticas Financieras. Introducción”. Los temas 4 y 5 se dedican a aplicaciones prácticas de los temas 2 y 3 respectivamente. En particular, en el tema 4 se plantean diversos supuestos de cálculo de rentabilidades, cuentas corrientes, los plazos fijos, el descuento de efectos, los pagarés de empresa y las operaciones de compraventa con pacto de recompra entre otros. Y el tema 5 se destina básicamente a la realización de supuestos relacionados con el valor actual neto (VAN) y la tasa interna de rentabilidad (TIR), además de supuestos introductorios a los préstamos y operaciones de constitución de capitales. La confección de cuadros de amortización es una de las tareas más importantes que ha de realizar el gestor financiero de cualquier empresa, por lo que se dedica un tema en exclusiva a dicha tarea. Se plantean supuestos sobre amortización de capitales con y sin periodo de carencia, con diversas modalidades de amortización (francés, americano, cuotas de amortización constante, etc.) y se dedican varios supuestos a la obtención del TAE y el TAEC.
