Download or read book Land Settlement Planning Issues in Irrigation Management written by Pamela Stanbury and published by IWMI. This book was released on 1988 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document is meant to present a framework for analyzing the institutions related to water management in a river basin context. The design of the five-country regional study undertaken by IWMI on “Development of Effective Water Management Institutions” provided a new methodology and a framework for river basin studies. It consists of four key components of diagnostic investigations related to water resources management in a river basin, which are interrelated. These key components are the physical system, water accounting, socioeconomic situation and performance. This study design is given in the Study’s Inception Report of 15 June 1999, and the Methodological Guidelines of 1 October 1999. This document takes one step further, and provides a conceptual framework for analyzing the institutional framework for water resources management in a river basin. The major thrust of this framework for institutional analysis is that the four key areas of diagnostic studies in a river basin are shown to be closely linked to the institutional frame work for integrated water resources management in the context of a river basin.

This book was released on 2019-09-05 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, number 15 in the Studies in Water Policy and Management Series and joins two other volumes (8 and 10) that collectively summarize a significant part of the post-World War II experience of Western experts and donors with the development and management of irrigation in Third World countries. The evolution of understanding of Third World irrigation issues has been toward a greater appreciation of the potential for augmenting traditional production and water allocation systems with improved institutional arrangements for achieving allocative efficiency and equity. The need for local inputs for planning, system operation, and system maintenance is now widely recognized, as is the need for providing proper motivation for system administrators. The authors of this volume offer improved conceptual frameworks and analytic techniques applied to specific country and regional problems in hopes of edifying future experts and donors.

Book Synopsis North-South Grain Markets And Trade Policies by : David Blandford
Download or read book North-South Grain Markets And Trade Policies written by David Blandford and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-03-13 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is composed of a series of case studies. The countries included reflect the interest and experience of the authors who collaborated in preparing the volume. No attempt was made to provide representative coverage based upon a comprehensive classiftcation of countries, which is why there are no chapters dealing with such exporters as Argentina or Thailand or importers such as Egypt or Japan. Despite the somewhat eclectic geographical mix, many of the fundamental issues that face the North and the South, both individually and collectively, are illustrated by the case countries. We would argue that there is much to be learned about the effective implementation of policy choices and the constraints that policymakers face by looking at individual country experiences, rather than by attempting to generalize on the basis of an abstract theoretical framework There is a dearth of information on what countries actually do in managing domestic grain markets.

Book Synopsis Irrigation Systems by : Adrian Laycock
Download or read book Irrigation Systems written by Adrian Laycock and published by CABI. This book was released on 2011 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of all the confrontations man has engineered with nature, irrigation systems have had the most widespread and far-reaching impact on the natural environment. Over a quarter of a billion hectares of the planet are irrigated and entire countries depend on irrigation for their survival and existence. Considering the importance of irrigation schemes, it is unfortunate that until recently the technology and principles of design applied to their construction has hardly changed in 4,000 years. Modern thinking on irrigation engineering has benefited from a cross-fertilization of ideas from many other fields including social sciences, control theory, political economics and agriculture. However, these influences have been largely ignored by irrigation engineers. Drawing on almost 40 years of experience of irrigation in the developing world, Laycock introduces new ideas on the design of irrigation systems and combines important issues from the disciplines of social conflict, management, and political thinking.
