Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heartwarming and Heart-Opening Stories Gathered from Decades of Medical Practice Bernie Siegel first wrote about miracles when he was a practicing surgeon and founded Exceptional Cancer Patients, a groundbreaking synthesis of group, individual, dream, and art therapy that provided patients with a “carefrontation.” Compiled during his more than thirty years of practice, speaking, and teaching, the stories in these pages are riveting, warm, and belief expanding. Their subjects include a girl whose baby brother helped her overcome anorexia, a woman whose cancer helped her heal by teaching her to stand up for herself, and a family that was saved from a burning house by bats. Without diminishing the reality of pain and hardship, the stories show real people turning crisis into blessing by responding to adversity in ways that empower and heal. They demonstrate what we are capable of and show us that we can achieve miracles as we confront life’s difficulties.

Abbey's nightmare begins the moment she finds herself on the reality TV stage of Makeover Miracle, thanks to her well-meaning but mischievous friend, Jennifer. As if vomiting on live television wasn't enough, Abbey's guarded world crumbles with her uninviting appearance broadcast to every living room in Australia. But the greatest challenge lurks behind the scenes: falling head over heels for the show's elusive producer, Quinn Campbell. A self-imposed benchwarmer in life, Abbey has spent years avoiding attention and following the rules. Yet, this unlikely spotlight reveals more than her vulnerable side—it exposes feelings she never dared entertain. For Quinn, the charismatic and unattainable producer, has captured her heart in ways she can't ignore. Still, Abbey struggles with insecurity, questioning the authenticity of her emotions and the notion of someone as captivating as Quinn returning them. Quinn Campbell knows the glitzy world of TV demands superficiality, yet something about Abbey breaks through the facade. Her unassuming beauty, kindness, and hidden shine grip his heart, challenging his strictly enforced rule not to mingle with show contestants. With attraction escalating and boundaries blurring, Abbey and Quinn must determine if love can triumph in the cut-throat arena of show business—and if taking the risk is the real miracle. If you delight in the romantic allure of Sophie Kinsella and the emotional depth of Marian Keyes, "Makeover Miracle" will charm you. Transform your reading experience with Abbey and Quinn's heartfelt journey. Purchase "Makeover Miracle" today and discover if love can outshine reality TV's greatest spectacle.

Book excerpt: In 2004, roughly 25 makeover-themed reality shows aired on U.S. television. By 2009, there were more than 250, from What Not to Wear and The Biggest Loser to Dog Whisperer and Pimp My Ride. In Makeover TV, Brenda R. Weber argues that whether depicting transformations of bodies, trucks, finances, relationships, kids, or homes, makeover shows posit a self achievable only in the transition from the “Before-body”—the overweight figure, the decrepit jalopy, the cluttered home—to the “After-body,” one filled with confidence, coded with celebrity, and imbued with a renewed faith in the powers of meritocracy. The rationales and tactics invoked to achieve the After-body vary widely, from the patriotic to the market-based, and from talk therapy to feminist empowerment. The genre is unified by its contradictions: to uncover your “true self,” you must be reinvented; to be empowered, you must surrender to experts; to be special, you must look and act like everyone else. Based on her analysis of more than 2,500 hours of makeover TV, Weber argues that the much-desired After-body speaks to and makes legible broader cultural narratives about selfhood, citizenship, celebrity, and Americanness. Although makeovers are directed at both male and female viewers, their gendered logic requires that feminized subjects submit to the controlling expertise wielded by authorities. The genre does not tolerate ambiguity. Conventional (middle-class, white, ethnically anonymous, heterosexual) femininity is the goal of makeovers for women. When subjects are male, makeovers often compensate for perceived challenges to masculine independence by offering men narrative options for resistance or control. Foregoing a binary model of power and subjugation, Weber provides an account of makeover television that is as appreciative as it is critical. She reveals the makeover show as a rich and complicated text that expresses cultural desires and fears through narratives of selfhood.

Book excerpt: This journal report, Chaos of Miracles, will transport you directly to Kikwit, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), to experience this Gospel mission with us. When you read the four Gospels in the Bible, you have a sense that you are present with Jesus, listening to every conversation and witnessing His amazing miracles. You feel His compassion as He ministers to those who are outcasts and hopelessly infirmed. In the same way, as you read this book, you will journey with us to the DRC, and travel with us to Kikwit. You will witness this great visitation of Jesus Christ among these forgotten people. You will stand on the platform with me on the first day of the public evangelism Festival of Faith and Miracles as a supernatural wind begins to blow. You will feel the eruption of miracles that creates an atmosphere of utter chaos as the people experience the healing presence of the Resurrected Christ. Jesus said, The Harvest is plentiful, Matt 9:37 and indeed it is here, as we reap a great soul harvest in Kikwit. Come with me and witness this Chaos of Miracles. - LaDonna C. Osborn

The icing on the project for Drew is that a colleague has promised him a spot working at a real film network if Drew can spend time with Carissa and not fall in love.
