Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alaskan’s are in grave danger. Make Alaska Great again is about making more land and resources available for Alaskan’s so that they are not 100% dependent on other states for everything. At the present time if Alaska misses two shipments of food from the lower states people will starve. What if a war or revolution starts in the lower forty-eight States or an EMP from the Sun, or extreme draught due to climate change or Yellowstone Volcano erupting destroys most of the food crops, no food will be shipped to Alaska. We can’t depend on Russia for aid. This book is about saving the state from a fate similar to Argentina where the government controls all the resources and sells them and wastes the money creating more government. Alaska’s current administration takes in more money per capita than any other state and uses the money to create more government. It needs to build a road to Nome like was planned during WWII to allow citizens access to resources. A ferry system to Russia would boost tourism and trade. We need to give up that childish Cold War and stop pointing nukes at each other. Mutually assured destruction is insane! Why keep on spending billions to maintain old junk that probably to rusty to detonate? Ask yourself what are we and our grandchildren going to do after the state destroys all the renewable resources and sells off the rest? Their track record of management of renewable resources speaks for itself...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the personal and frank Confessions of a Free Speech Lawyer, Rodney A. Smolla offers an insider's view on the violent confrontations in Charlottesville during the "summer of hate." Blending memoir, courtroom drama, and a consideration of the unhealed wound of racism in our society, he shines a light on the conflict between the value of free speech and the protection of civil rights. Smolla has spent his career in the thick of these tempestuous and fraught issues, from acting as lead counsel in a famous Supreme Court decision challenging Virginia's law against burning crosses, to serving as co-counsel in a libel suit brought by a fraternity against Rolling Stone magazine for publishing an article alleging that one of the fraternity's initiation rituals included gang rape. Smolla has also been active as a university leader, serving as dean of three law schools and president of one and railing against hate speech and sexual assault on US campuses. Well before the tiki torches cast their ominous shadows across the nation, the city of Charlottesville sought to relocate the Unite the Right rally; Smolla was approached to represent the alt-right groups. Though he declined, he came to wonder what his history of advocacy had wrought. Feeling unsettlingly complicit, he joined the Charlottesville Task Force, and he realized that the events that transpired there had meaning and resonance far beyond a singular time and place. Why, he wonders, has one of our foundational rights created a land in which such tragic clashes happen all too frequently?

Trump, President of the United States of America, came to power in January 2017 after defeating opponent Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. His online public diary on Twitter describes his daily thoughts about political happenings, opinions, and plans. He tells of misdeeds by Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and call out the Fake News. If you ever wanted to really get to know the president, this is the book to read. Here is the president's story in his own words, gathered from his Twitter account and presented in a single narrative. It provides an intimate portrait of a president hard at work protecting the country from immigrants, getting the country out of bad treaties, and fighting back against so-called "global warming" climate scientists.

Book excerpt: **The National Bestseller** From the acclaimed, bestselling author of Turn Right at Machu Picchu, a fascinating, wild, and wonder-filled journey into Alaska, America's last frontier In 1899, railroad magnate Edward H. Harriman organized a most unusual summer voyage to the wilds of Alaska: He converted a steamship into a luxury "floating university," populated by some of America's best and brightest scientists and writers, including the anti-capitalist eco-prophet John Muir. Those aboard encountered a land of immeasurable beauty and impending environmental calamity. More than a hundred years later, Alaska is still America's most sublime wilderness, both the lure that draws one million tourists annually on Inside Passage cruises and as a natural resources larder waiting to be raided. As ever, it remains a magnet for weirdos and dreamers. Armed with Dramamine and an industrial-strength mosquito net, Mark Adams sets out to retrace the 1899 expedition. Traveling town to town by water, Adams ventures three thousand miles north through Wrangell, Juneau, and Glacier Bay, then continues west into the colder and stranger regions of the Aleutians and the Arctic Circle. Along the way, he encounters dozens of unusual characters (and a couple of very hungry bears) and investigates how lessons learned in 1899 might relate to Alaska's current struggles in adapting to the pressures of a changing climate and world.

Book excerpt: The thrilling, cinematic story of a community shattered by disaster—and the extraordinary woman who helped pull it back together “A powerful, heart-wrenching book, as much art as it is journalism.”—The Wall Street Journal “A beautifully wrought and profoundly joyful story of compassion and perseverance.”—BuzzFeed (Best Books of the Year) In the spring of 1964, Anchorage, Alaska, was a modern-day frontier town yearning to be a metropolis—the largest, proudest city in a state that was still brand-new. But just before sundown on Good Friday, the community was jolted by the most powerful earthquake in American history, a catastrophic 9.2 on the Richter Scale. For four and a half minutes, the ground lurched and rolled. Streets cracked open and swallowed buildings whole. And once the shaking stopped, night fell and Anchorage went dark. The city was in disarray and sealed off from the outside world. Slowly, people switched on their transistor radios and heard a familiar woman’s voice explaining what had just happened and what to do next. Genie Chance was a part-time radio reporter and working mother who would play an unlikely role in the wake of the disaster, helping to put her fractured community back together. Her tireless broadcasts over the next three days would transform her into a legendary figure in Alaska and bring her fame worldwide—but only briefly. That Easter weekend in Anchorage, Genie and a cast of endearingly eccentric characters—from a mountaineering psychologist to the local community theater group staging Our Town—were thrown into a jumbled world they could not recognize. Together, they would make a home in it again. Drawing on thousands of pages of unpublished documents, interviews with survivors, and original broadcast recordings, This Is Chance! is the hopeful, gorgeously told story of a single catastrophic weekend and proof of our collective strength in a turbulent world. There are moments when reality instantly changes—when the life we assume is stable gets upended by pure chance. This Is Chance! is an electrifying and lavishly empathetic portrayal of one community rising above the randomness, a real-life fable of human connection withstanding chaos.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Love them or hate them, the tweets of President Donald J. Trump rule the Twitterverse. Until our last presidential campaign, television, particularly campaign ads, dominated the political landscape. But with the rise of Donald J. Trump came a new political tool: the internet. Trump used this to communicate instantly and very effectively with the American people. And it worked. Establishing his political positions by tweeting numerous times a day, Trump pulled a major upset by defeating Hillary Rodham Clinton to become the 45th president of the United States. Once in office, Trump did not abandon his penchant for using Twitter as his populist platform. Instead, he doubled down on it, making it his primary means of communicating with the American people. Knowing how effective a tweet can be, Trump once wrote, “Boom. I press it and within two seconds we have breaking news.” With a massive Twitter following of 78 million by the spring of 2020, Trump’s direct impact upon Americans cannot be dismissed, nor can the value of his tweets as an essential part of the historical record be denied. To put the enormous impact of his tweets into perspective, Trump won the White House with 63 million votes—a number significantly lower than his massive Twitter following. Now you can read the collected tweets of wisdom—or ridiculousness—from President Donald J. Trump, from his inauguaration through February 2020 in this historically significant collection.

In Extreme Conditions: Big Oil and the Transformation of Alaska, Pulitzer Prize-winner John Strohmeyer writes a riveting account of how it all happened. From the icy North waters, Strohmeyer takes the reader to the inside world of post-oil Alaska and shows what tumultuous changes--for good and bad--this gusher of money and influx of people have had upon America's last great frontier. The enduring relevance of this work makes it indispensable reading in understanding the current tensions among environmentalists, businesses, and Natives that characterize Alaska today."--Back Cover.
