Book Synopsis The Code of Hammurabi by : Jeanne Breazeale
Download or read book The Code of Hammurabi written by Jeanne Breazeale and published by Author House. This book was released on 2013-09 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This case study shows that a widely used U. S. Government high school textbook puts an ancient King of Babylon on the same level as American founding fathers George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. The research study finds that the assertion that the Hammurabi Code is an underlying document of the United States--as millions of American high school students are being taught today--is not correct. The U.S. Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights are the founding documents of the United States. The study challenges the claim by both legalists and religionists to the presumed importance of this ancient code to the foundations of American government--now and in the past. It warns that historical revisionism of this type poses a threat to U.S. national security at a time when American values are being challenged abroad, especially in the Middle East. It finds no overall uniform oversight or coordination of parties at all levels involved in high school textbook content. The present system for fully reviewing textbooks and curricula--a combination of publishers, school boards, issue-blind teachers and academics, government and national security agencies--is not working. Unless corrected, the foundations of freedom and democracy and the Judeo-Christian spiritual values upon which they are built will continue to be seriously eroded in the nation's high schools.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The seventeenth edition of Party Politics in America continues the comprehensive and authoritative coverage of political parties for which it is known while expanding and updating the treatment of key related topics including interest groups and elections. Marjorie Hershey builds on the book’s three-pronged coverage of party organization, party in the electorate, and party in government and integrates contemporary examples—such as campaign finance reform, party polarization, and social media—to bring to life the fascinating story of how parties shape our political system. New to the 17th Edition Fully updated through the 2016 election, including changes in virtually all of the boxed materials, the chapter openings, and the data presented. Explores increasing partisan hostility, the status of voter ID laws and other efforts to affect voter turnout, young voters' attitudes and participation, and the role of big givers such as the energy billionaire Koch brothers in the 2016 campaigns. Critically examines the idea that Super PACs are replacing, or can replace, the party organizations in running campaigns. New and expanded online Instructor's Resources, including author-written test banks, essay questions, relevant websites with correlated sample assignments, the book’s appendix, and links to a collection of course syllabi.

Book excerpt: This study examines the American military's experience with urban operations in Somalia, particularly in the capital city of Mogadishu. That original focus can be found in the following pages, but the authors address other, broader issues as well, to include planning for a multinational intervention; workable and unworkable command and control arrangements; the advantages and problems inherent in coalition operations; the need for cultural awareness in a clan-based society whose status as a nation-state is problematic; the continuous adjustments required by a dynamic, often unpredictable situation; the political dimension of military activities at the operational and tactical levels; and the ability to match military power and capabilities to the mission at hand.
