Book excerpt: Volume III/27 covers the magnetic properties of non-metallic inorganic compounds based on transition elements. It can therefore be considered as a supplement to volumes III/4 (1970) and III/12 (1978-82) and as a counterpartto volume III/19, in which the magnetic properties of metals, alloys andmetallic compounds are compiled. III/27j deals with halides. In the present subvolume III/27j1 data are compiled for the halides having the general chemical formula MXn, where M represents a 3d-element and X a halogen element. Also graphite compounds intercalated by these transition metal chlorides have been included.

Book excerpt: The physical properties of faujasites (FAU) as well as of EMT-FAU type frameworks are analysed in this volume. Faujasite type zeolites have a wide range of industrial applications as ion exchanger, sorption agent, molecular sieve and as a catalyst, due primarily to their excellent structural stability, large and accessible pore volume, high activity, high resistance to nitrogen compounds and high regenerability. Important industrial processes, where faujasites are used as catalysts, are cracking, hydrocracking and isomerization for obtaining petroleum products from crude oil.

Book Synopsis Synthesis, Properties and Mineralogy of Important Inorganic Materials by : Terence E. Warner
Download or read book Synthesis, Properties and Mineralogy of Important Inorganic Materials written by Terence E. Warner and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-05-14 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intended as a textbook for courses involving preparative solid-state chemistry, this book offers clear and detailed descriptions on how to prepare a selection of inorganic materials that exhibit important optical, magnetic and electrical properties, on a laboratory scale. The text covers a wide range of preparative methods and can be read as separate, independent chapters or as a unified coherent body of work. Discussions of various chemical systems reveal how the properties of a material can often be influenced by modifications to the preparative procedure, and vice versa. References to mineralogy are made throughout the book since knowledge of naturally occurring inorganic substances is helpful in devising many of the syntheses and in characterizing the product materials. A set of questions at the end of each chapter helps to connect theory with practice, and an accompanying solutions manual is available to instructors. This book is also of appeal to postgraduate students, post-doctoral researchers and those working in industry requiring knowledge of solid-state synthesis.

Book Synopsis Springer Handbook of Materials Data by : Hans Warlimont
Download or read book Springer Handbook of Materials Data written by Hans Warlimont and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-27 with total page 1146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of this well-received handbook is the most concise yet comprehensive compilation of materials data. The chapters provide succinct descriptions and summarize essential and reliable data for various types of materials. The information is amply illustrated with 900 tables and 1050 figures selected primarily from well-established data collections, such as Landolt-Börnstein, which is now part of the SpringerMaterials database. The new edition of the Springer Handbook of Materials Data starts by presenting the latest CODATA recommended values of the fundamental physical constants and provides comprehensive tables of the physical and physicochemical properties of the elements. 25 chapters collect and summarize the most frequently used data and relationships for numerous metals, nonmetallic materials, functional materials and selected special structures such as liquid crystals and nanostructured materials. Along with careful updates to the content and the inclusion of timely and extensive references, this second edition includes new chapters on polymers, materials for solid catalysts and low-dimensional semiconductors. This handbook is an authoritative reference resource for engineers, scientists and students engaged in the vast field of materials science.
Book Synopsis Perovskites I (Part b) by : E. Burzo
Download or read book Perovskites I (Part b) written by E. Burzo and published by Springer. This book was released on 1996-11-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In subvolume 27F1 the magnetic properties of AMO3 - type and of (AR)MO3 - type perovskite oxides (A = alkaline-earth metal, M = d transition element, R = rare earth element) have been compiled. In some aspects this volume is a supplement to the previously published survey in Landolt-Börnstein of J.B. Goodenough and J.M. Longo Vol. III/4a (1970) and S. Nomura Vol. III/12a (1978). However this volume III/27F1 presents in itself a comprehensive state of the knowledge of the magnetic and magnetism-related properties of the considered compounds.
Book Synopsis d-d Excitations in Transition-Metal Oxides by : Bärbel Fromme
Download or read book d-d Excitations in Transition-Metal Oxides written by Bärbel Fromme and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-08-03 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this monograph, investigations of the electronic structures of the transition-metal oxides MnO, CoO, and NiO with spin-polarized electron energy-loss spectroscopy are presented and compared with other experimental and theoretical results. After a review of the present knowledge of the electronic structure of the monoxides, the spectroscopic method applied and its special advantages are described. The knowledge and use of the different spin, angle, and primary-energy dependences of the various relevant inelastic electron-scattering mechanisms provide new insights into the excitation processes of the optically forbidden transitions between the crystal-field-split 3d states of the bulk and of the surface.
