Book excerpt: A field machinery selection model for multiple cropping (MACMACEL) was developed to assist in the minimization of the total cost of owning and operating machinery by selecting the optimal system size for a variety of field crops. The model was simulated by a user-friendly computer algorithm installed on a microcomputer using Fortran 77 language. It starts by determining the optimum machinery sizes for a known cropping pattern and a set of farm machinery. This consists of tractor(s), self propelled machine(s), and tractor drawn implements. the model can take into account equipment(s) that are already owned by the farmer. Trials (iterations) are made with various numbers and sizes of machines to obtain the most economical machinery set that can finish all farming operations specified within the given time, satisfy power requirements, and have the least total annual equivalent cost. For that set of machinery, printed output includes the schedule of field operations, the quantity and type of machines and implements, and itemized list of the cost based on the cash flow method.

Book Synopsis Equipment Selection for Mining: With Case Studies by : Christina N. Burt
Download or read book Equipment Selection for Mining: With Case Studies written by Christina N. Burt and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-02 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book presents innovative and state-of-the-art computational models for determining the optimal truck–loader selection and allocation strategy for use in large and complex mining operations. The authors provide comprehensive information on the methodology that has been developed over the past 50 years, from the early ad hoc spreadsheet approaches to today’s highly sophisticated and accurate mathematical-based computational models. The authors’ approach is motivated and illustrated by real case studies provided by our industry collaborators. The book is intended for a broad audience, ranging from mathematicians with an interest in industrial applications to mining engineers who wish to utilize the most accurate, efficient, versatile and robust computational models in order to refine their equipment selection and allocation strategy. As materials handling costs represent a significant component of total costs for mining operations, applying the optimization methodology developed here can substantially improve their competitiveness

Book Synopsis Machinery and Power Selection Models for Paddy Wheat Farms by : R. C. Dash
Download or read book Machinery and Power Selection Models for Paddy Wheat Farms written by R. C. Dash and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Power and machinery is a single largest cost component, constituting about 60% of the total investment cost on mechanized farm. The profit of a farm depends, to a great extent, on the appropriate mechanization planning of the farm. Selection of proper size of power source(s) and its matching equipment is of paramount importance for an efficient mechanization planning. The bottleneck in the farm mechanization planning has been due to complexity of available machinery systems and their diversity with respect to type, size, number and operational characteristics. The process is further complicated in multiple cropping farms. Several models have been developed for the selection of agricultural machinery system using different techniques, like, linear programming, heuristic models, dynamic programming, and least cost approach. All those models were crop and location specific. This book describes the development of computer based mathematical models using least cost technique and a software for the selection of optimum power and machinery system. The developed models were validated for paddy-wheat crop rotation of Northern India.
