Book excerpt: This book of Advances in Intelligent and Soft Computing contains accepted papers presented at SOCO 2023 conference held in the beautiful and historic city of Salamanca (Spain) in September 2023. Soft computing represents a collection or set of computational techniques in machine learning, computer science, and some engineering disciplines, which investigate, simulate, and analyze very complex issues and phenomena. After a through peer-review process, the 18th SOCO 2023 International Program Committee selected 61 papers which are published in these conference proceedings and represents an acceptance rate of 60%. In this relevant edition, a particular emphasis was put on the organization of special sessions. Seven special sessions were organized related to relevant topics such as: Time Series Forecasting in Industrial and Environmental Applications, Technological Foundations and Advanced Applications of Drone Systems, Soft Computing Methods in Manufacturing and Management Systems, Efficiency and Explainability in Machine Learning and Soft Computing, Machine Learning and Computer Vision in Industry 4.0, Genetic and Evolutionary Computation in Real World and Industry, and Soft Computing and Hard Computing for a Data Science Process Model. The selection of papers was extremely rigorous to maintain the high quality of the conference. We want to thank the members of the Program Committees for their hard work during the reviewing process. This is a crucial process for creating a high-standard conference; the SOCO conference would not exist without their help.

Data-intensive systems support the use of large amounts of data strategically and efficiently to provide intelligence. For example, examining industrial sensor data or business process data can enhance production, guide proactive improvements of development processes, or optimize supply chain systems. Designing data-intensive software systems is difficult because distribution of knowledge across stakeholders creates a symmetry of ignorance, because a shared vision of the future requires the development of new knowledge that extends and synthesizes existing knowledge. Knowledge Management in the Development of Data-Intensive Systems addresses new challenges arising from knowledge management in the development of data-intensive software systems. These challenges concern requirements, architectural design, detailed design, implementation and maintenance. The book covers the current state and future directions of knowledge management in development of data-intensive software systems. The book features both academic and industrial contributions which discuss the role software engineering can play for addressing challenges that confront developing, maintaining and evolving systems;data-intensive software systems of cloud and mobile services; and the scalability requirements they imply. The book features software engineering approaches that can efficiently deal with data-intensive systems as well as applications and use cases benefiting from data-intensive systems. Providing a comprehensive reference on the notion of data-intensive systems from a technical and non-technical perspective, the book focuses uniquely on software engineering and knowledge management in the design and maintenance of data-intensive systems. The book covers constructing, deploying, and maintaining high quality software products and software engineering in and for dynamic and flexible environments. This book provides a holistic guide for those who need to understand the impact of variability on all aspects of the software life cycle. It leverages practical experience and evidence to look ahead at the challenges faced by organizations in a fast-moving world with increasingly fast-changing customer requirements and expectations.

Book excerpt: This book collects the best articles about several artificial intelligence concepts that I have published online during 2020. It is dedicated to anyone interested in Artificial Intelligence and anyone who wants to understand some of the building blocks that form this fascinating technology. Here, you will find my best articles, updated and revisited, with some more insights, with a suitable format for book readers. The content of this book results from extensive research, long nights of studies, and some of my best years of work in the field in some prestigious enterprise companies in Europe. My goal is to share as much as possible through an affordable, simple, and straightforward language, valuable knowledge that helps you understanding complex topics related to technologies such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Analytics, and Autonomous Vehicles, among others. It is a satisfying adventure, I must say. Every day I receive considerably positive feedback, lots of article views, lots of likes, retweets, and more on my social networks and not less, some indications as a top writer, invitations to collaborate in some prestigious online publications. All this is truly motivating. I believe that life is complicated enough, so I consider that every time someone tries to simplify concepts and knowledge useful to humanity, this can be regarded as an essential contribution to inclusiveness and equity in the world. So, this is my mission. This book is not intended to exhaust all the learning needs of those wishing to enter the AI world. It is a starting point composed of some “scattered notes” that will help you put together some valuable pieces of technology's great mosaic. The articles presented here are very beneficial to provide you a practical introduction to some of the most important concepts that many of us face daily. They also will give you some pointers on how to go beyond the first step in search of much more. Just as Dante suggested: “You were not meant to live as ugly, but to seek virtue and knowledge.”

Book excerpt: This textbook introduces new business concepts on cloud environments such as secure, scalable anonymity and practical payment protocols for the Internet of things and Blockchain technology. The protocol uses electronic cash for payment transactions. In this new protocol, from the viewpoint of banks, consumers can improve anonymity if they are worried about disclosure of their identities in the cloud. Currently, there is not a book available that has reported the techniques covering the protocols with anonymizations and Blockchain technology. Thus this will be a useful book for universities to purchase. This textbook provides new direction for access control management and online business, with new challenges within Blockchain technology that may arise in cloud environments. One is related to the authorization granting process. For example, when a role is granted to a user, this role may conflict with other roles of the user or together with this role; the user may have or derive a high level of authority. Another is related to authorization revocation. For instance, when a role is revoked from a user, the user may still have the role. Experts will get benefits from these challenges through the developed methodology for authorization granting algorithm, and weak revocation and strong revocation algorithms.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While GPS is the de-facto solution for outdoor positioning with a clear sky view, there is no prevailing technology for GPS-deprived areas, including dense city centers, urban canyons, buildings and other covered structures, and subterranean facilities such as underground mines, where GPS signals are severely attenuated or totally blocked. As an alternative to GPS for the outdoors, indoor localization using machine learning is an emerging embedded and Internet of Things (IoT) application domain that is poised to reinvent the way we navigate in various indoor environments. This book discusses advances in the applications of machine learning that enable the localization and navigation of humans, robots, and vehicles in GPS-deficient environments. The book explores key challenges in the domain, such as mobile device resource limitations, device heterogeneity, environmental uncertainties, wireless signal variations, and security vulnerabilities. Countering these challenges can improve the accuracy, reliability, predictability, and energy-efficiency of indoor localization and navigation. The book identifies severalnovel energy-efficient, real-time, and robust indoor localization techniques that utilize emerging deep machine learning and statistical techniques to address the challenges for indoor localization and navigation. In particular, the book: Provides comprehensive coverage of the application of machine learning to the domain of indoor localization; Presents techniques to adapt and optimize machine learning models for fast, energy-efficient indoor localization; Covers design and deployment of indoor localization frameworks on mobile, IoT, and embedded devices in real conditions.
