Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 25 January 1987, with the telecast of the very first episode of Ramayan, Indian television changed for all time to come. In a matter of weeks, the series became a national obsession. During the Ramayan slot, roads emptied out. No marriages and political rallies were scheduled for that time. More than three decades later, there has been nothing to match it. Ramanand Sagar, the man behind the phenomenon and a successful filmmaker from Bombay, was among the first to recognise the immense power of television. He first made his mark as a writer in Raj Kapoor's Barsat (1949). From 1961 to 1970, Sagar wrote, produced and directed six consecutive silver jubilee hits-Ghunghat, Zindagi, Arzoo, Ankhen, Geet and Lalkar. An Epic Life: Ramanand Sagar, From Barsaat to Ramayan, written by his son, Prem Sagar, an award-winning cinematographer, is an intimate look at the life of a visionary. It traces Sagar's life from his birth in Kashmir in 1917, his dramatic escape in 1947 when Pakistani tribesmen attacked the state, his arrival in Bombay and his subsequent glorious career-the crowning achievement of which was the smashing success of Ramayan.

Book excerpt: Until Every Animal is Free is an insightful, candid work heralding the Animal Liberation Movement as the next logical step on the path of social justice, dispelling many of the myths that keep us from getting there. In it, Saryta Rodriguez challenges the Myth of Human Supremacy, and explores some of the ideological pillars behind the belief that humans are superior to all other animals. This book also discusses animal liberation theory, as well as (primarily twenty-first century) efforts to put animal liberation on the public agenda.

Nothing can break the bond between two souls who are connected to each other. No matter how long they are apart, no matter what happens, they are always connected.” Urmila Set against the backdrop of the Ramayana, Lakshmila narrates the story of the selfless love between Lakshman and Urmila without whom the Ramayana would have been incomplete. But Lakshmila – the united entities of Lakhsman and Urmila – does not tell the world about their sacrifices; instead they speak of their love that becomes the cornerstone of their powerful and supreme sacrifice. Urmila is as important as Lakshman in the story. It lingers on the significant pauses in their relationship, unknown to the world, and gently drives home the unsung truth that the love between Lakshman and Urmila was unusual, divine, subtle and yet potent, carrying across lifetimes. Their love was a silent and selfless commitment, more of a spiritual connection. Lakshmila provides a detailed insight into the ‘what, how, when and why’ of every incident that took place during the Treta Yug in the Suryavanshi family, based on detailed research from the Valmiki Ramayana, Kamban Ramayana, Puranas and the different versions of the Ramayana. The fictional narrative is set in the context of a retelling of the epic from Lakshman and Urmila’s perspective of the events that went on to build the timeless tale.

Most grownups write books as a bit older than a kid is supposed to read. There are a lot of kids that are on a high reading level, but the authors they read might use some words that are not age-appropriate. So, Aryal tried his best in this book to make sure that it is family friendly. About the Author Abhash Aryal began writing this book at age ten. Abhash's greatest supporters are his mom, dad, and family. Aryal would like to thank his great friend, Param, for all the tips and tricks and help in editing. He would also like to remember his teachers, Mrs. Defuso from fourth grade, and Mrs. Johnson from fifth grade, to improve his writing skills: without them, Abhash would have terrible grammar and spelling. Abhash is thankful to Tanuja Adhikari, Nepali School teacher for love, support, and inspiration, and Bimala Niraula for giving him a lot of opportunities to sing and write, which helped to boost his confidence. Special thanks to Madhu Panthi, Mina Panthi, Shova Acharya, Shiva Acharya, Bipin Ghimire, and Binita for playing positive roles in helping Abhash learn and grow.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hinduism is a very liberal religion. It is eternal and, despite having many deities in it, it is a supporter of monotheism. Hindus believe that God is one; only names are many. Hurting someone is the greatest sin, and charity is the greatest virtue. Service to the people is the service of God. Hinduism resides in the mind, rites, and traditions of Hindutva. In Hinduism, gods and goddesses are an integral part of the colorful Hindu culture. The main deities of the Vedic period are Indra, Agni, Soma, Varuna, Prajapati, Savita, and the goddesses Saraswati, Usha, Prithvi, etc. In later Hinduism, new gods and goddesses came in the form of many incarnations, such as Ganesha, Shri Rama, Shri Krishna, Hanuman, Kartikeya, Surya, Chandra, etc., and goddesses called mothers, such as Durga, Parvati, Lakshmi, Sheetla, Sita, Radha, Santoshi, Mahakali, etc. All these deities are mentioned in the Puranas and their total number is said to be 33 types. They are: 8 Vasu, 11 Rudra, 12 Aaditya, 1 Indra and 1 Prajaapati. According to the Puranas, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva are the supreme powers and members of the Trinity. They are the rulers of nature. Without their permission, not even a leaf moves here. One more special thing—all the deities' works are divided. No one interferes in any particular area. Everyone has also been given their respective powers for the performance of the work. Apart from all this, the cow is also worshipped as a mother in Hinduism. It is believed that the entire 33 categories of deities reside in the cow. Many trees, rivers, animals, birds, mountains, etc. are worshipped here as God. Hindu gods and goddesses have also taken many incarnations to protect religion and humanity. Among them, 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu are considered prominent: Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Vamana, Narasimha, Parashurama, Rama, Krishna, Buddha, and Kalki. The Kalki incarnation is the twenty-fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, which is set to take place at the end of the current Kali-yuga. His various forms are worshipped with full devotion and belief in the country and abroad. It is also said in religious texts that the deities may have different names, but all bless their devotees equally. The stories of the origins of various Hindu gods are given in the present book. There may be similarities in some of the stories. I have compiled these from the Vedas, Puranas, and Upanishads. I hope the readers will find it interesting and informative.

This book was released on 2022-05-24 with total page 748 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the application of geospatial technologies for resource planning and management for the key natural resources, e.g. water, agriculture and forest as well as the decision support system (DSS) for infrastructure development. We have seen in the past four decades that the growing complexities of sustainable management of natural resources management have been very challenging. The book has been written to leverage the current geospatial technologies that integrate the remotely sensed data available from various platforms, the precise locational data providing geospatial intelligence, and the advanced integration tools of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Geospatial technologies have been used for water resources management employing geomorphological characteristics, analysis of river migration pattern, understanding the large-scale hydrological process, wet land classification and monitoring, analysis of glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF), assessment of environmental flow and soil erosion studies, water quality modelling and assessment and rejuvenation of paleochannels through groundwater recharge. Geospatial technologies have been applied for crop classification and mapping, soil moisture determination using RISAT-1 C-band and PALSAR-2 L-band sensors, inventory of horticulture plantations, management of citrus orchards, crop yield forecasting, rice yield estimation, estimation of evapotranspiration and its evaluation against lysimeter and satellite-based evapotranspiration product for India to address the various issues of the agricultural system management. Geospatial technologies have been used for generation of digital elevation model, urban dynamics assessment, mobile GIS application at grass root level planning, cadastral level developmental planning and e-governance applications, system dynamics for sustainable development, micro-level water resources planning, site suitability for sewage treatment plant, traffic density assessment, geographical indications of India, archaeological applications and disasters interventions to elaborate various issues of DSS for infrastructure development and management. Geospatial technologies have been employed for the generation and reconciliation of the notified forest land boundaries, and also the land cover changes analysis within notified forest areas, forest resource assessment, management and monitoring and wildlife conservation and management. This book aims to present high-quality technical case studies representing the recent developments in the “application of geospatial technologies for resource planning and management”. The editors hope that this book will serve as a valuable resource for scientists and researchers to plan and manage land and water resources sustainably.
