Book excerpt: Take a journey with the artist and writer Petar Meseldzija, who tells how he was allowed unparalleled access through the Invisible Curtain and into the land of giants. A year in the making, this book's sixteen paintings and nearly ninety drawings bring to life Petar's experiences on this journey and secrets uncovered, going back to ancient times. He shares stories of new discoveries that free giants from the murky abyss of myth and a forgotten past. Told in three stages, The Book of Giants includes the illustrated stories The Giants Are Coming, recounting a dynamic clash that lasted one hundred years; The Little Kingdom, where a giant befriends a nation of humans and becomes their adamant protector against ferocious invaders; The Northern Giants, who embrace the warrior spirit through countless battles; Giant Velles, the story of ignorance and how the strength of goodness perseveres; and The Great Forest, wherein the author discovers little creatures called the keppetz and relates his experiences spent with ogres while on his quest to meet the Golden One and to determine the purpose of his journey. Through the strength of his own power, he discovers his blessings, his limitations and finally his personal myth. Furthermore, you will discover why giants made a push into the underground, followed by their exodus and deliverance to a new land. You'll also learn why the myth of giants is still alive, why their time spent with humans remains elusive and why giants prefer to remain hidden in their world. Join Petar Meseldzija on his journey of discovery.

Book Synopsis I Saw the Muses by : Leonardo Sinisgalli
Download or read book I Saw the Muses written by Leonardo Sinisgalli and published by Guernica Editions. This book was released on 1997 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leonardo Sinisgalli (1908--1981) was born in Lucania, Italy, and was a painter as well as a major poet. His images and metaphors arise from nature. His muses perch on an ancient oak, eating, not ambrosia, but acorns and berries. The dominant landscapes of his poetry are intimate, a world of affections, places and people, that transcend time and the particulars of culture and locality. His language is plain and sensuous; his voice, gentle. In his poetry are the wonder of a child and the ironies of a twentieth century man.
Book Synopsis Corrupt Exchanges by : Donatella Della Porta
Download or read book Corrupt Exchanges written by Donatella Della Porta and published by Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft. This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corruption undermines the market and challenges government legitimacy. Its hidden character, however, makes it troublesome to study empirically. Corrupt Exchanges seeks to overcome this difficulty using the tools of economics and political science. The papers, presented at the Zentrum for Interdisziplinäre Forschung in Bielefeld, Germany, in 2001, begin a dialogue across disciplinary lines. The contributors are a first-rate group of scholars using diverse techniques, both qualitative and quantitative. Their work demonstrates that, with patience and creativity, the empirical study of corruption is possible and can contribute to the policy debate. One group of papers deals with high-level political corruption especially involving Member States of the European Union. The second group focuses on bureaucratic corruption in developing and transition countries. The papers study particular instances and types of corruption and suggest solutions. This book will interest to those concerned with limiting corruption worldwide, including the business and the nonprofit communities and international aid and lending organizations. The editors are internationally recognized experts in the study of corruption. Donatella Della Porta is Professor of Political Science at the University of Florence and the author (with Alberto Vannucci) of Corrupt Exchanges (1999). Susan Rose-Ackerman is Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University and the author of Corruption and Government (1999).

Download or read book Carlo Mollino written by Fulvio Ferrari and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carlo Mollino (19051973) was one of the most inspired mid-20th-century architects and designers. In a career that spanned more than four decades, Mollino designed buildings, homes, cars, aircraft, womens fashion, and theater sets. He was a renaissance man who sought to articulate movement and sensuality in his designs. Even more compelling are the magically surreal Polaroid images Mollino made in his Turin studio during the last 14 years of his life, seen here in the first-ever collection of Mollinos carefully honed erotic photographs of women. From 1,500 works, the Ferraris have culled over 250 representative images in which Molino posed his models in evocative clothing, staged the backdrops, and finally, altered the photos with a microscopic paintbrush to attain his ideal view of the female form. Only a few of Mollinos Polaroids have ever been viewed by the public.

Book Synopsis Nature and Culture in Western Discourses by : Stephen Horigan
Download or read book Nature and Culture in Western Discourses written by Stephen Horigan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-08 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How unique is man? How much are we bound by a common nature? To what extent is culture an expression of instinct? Such questions have haunted the development of social theory. In this fascinating book, Stephen Horigan argues that our thinking on these matters has been bedevilled by the enlightenment distinction between nature and culture. He criticizes this on the grounds that terms such as 'nature', 'culture', 'human', and 'animal' are ambiguous. He uses the themes of wildness and primitivism and cases of 'feral' children to illustrate his argument.
