Download or read book Nonlinear PDEs written by Marius Ghergu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-21 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emphasis throughout the present volume is on the practical application of theoretical mathematical models helping to unravel the underlying mechanisms involved in processes from mathematical physics and biosciences. It has been conceived as a unique collection of abstract methods dealing especially with nonlinear partial differential equations (either stationary or evolutionary) that are applied to understand concrete processes involving some important applications related to phenomena such as: boundary layer phenomena for viscous fluids, population dynamics,, dead core phenomena, etc. It addresses researchers and post-graduate students working at the interplay between mathematics and other fields of science and technology and is a comprehensive introduction to the theory of nonlinear partial differential equations and its main principles also presents their real-life applications in various contexts: mathematical physics, chemistry, mathematical biology, and population genetics. Based on the authors' original work, this volume provides an overview of the field, with examples suitable for researchers but also for graduate students entering research. The method of presentation appeals to readers with diverse backgrounds in partial differential equations and functional analysis. Each chapter includes detailed heuristic arguments, providing thorough motivation for the material developed later in the text. The content demonstrates in a firm way that partial differential equations can be used to address a large variety of phenomena occurring in and influencing our daily lives. The extensive reference list and index make this book a valuable resource for researchers working in a variety of fields and who are interested in phenomena modeled by nonlinear partial differential equations.
Book Synopsis Algebra and Coalgebra in Computer Science by : Andrea Corradini
Download or read book Algebra and Coalgebra in Computer Science written by Andrea Corradini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-08-19 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Algebra and Coalgebra in Computer Science, CALCO 2011, held in Winchester, UK, in August/September 2011. The 21 full papers presented together with 4 invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 41 submissions. The papers report results of theoretical work on the mathematics of algebras and coalgebras, the way these results can support methods and techniques for software development, as well as experience with the transfer of the resulting technologies into industrial practice. They cover topics in the fields of abstract models and logics, specialized models and calculi, algebraic and coalgebraic semantics, and system specification and verification. The book also includes 6 papers from the CALCO-tools Workshop, colocated with CALCO 2011 and dedicated to tools based on algebraic and/or coalgebraic principles.
Book Synopsis Institution-independent Model Theory by : Razvan Diaconescu
Download or read book Institution-independent Model Theory written by Razvan Diaconescu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-08-01 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops model theory independently of any concrete logical system or structure, within the abstract category-theoretic framework of the so called ‘institution theory’. The development includes most of the important methods and concepts of conventional concrete model theory at the abstract institution-independent level. Consequently it is easily applicable to a rather large diverse collection of logics from the mathematical and computer science practice.

Book Synopsis Principles of Differential and Integral Equations by : C. Corduneanu
Download or read book Principles of Differential and Integral Equations written by C. Corduneanu and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1977-01-30 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In summary, the author has provided an elegant introduction to important topics in the theory of ordinary differential equations and integral equations. -- Mathematical Reviews This book is intended for a one-semester course in differential and integral equations for advanced undergraduates or beginning graduate students, with a view toward preparing the reader for graduate-level courses on more advanced topics. There is some emphasis on existence, uniqueness, and the qualitative behavior of solutions. Students from applied mathematics, physics, and engineering will find much of value in this book. The first five chapters cover ordinary differential equations. Chapter 5 contains a good treatment of the stability of ODEs. The next four chapters cover integral equations, including applications to second-order differential equations. Chapter 7 is a concise introduction to the important Fredholm theory of linear integral equations. The final chapter is a well-selected collection of fascinating miscellaneous facts about differential and integral equations. The prerequisites are a good course in advanced calculus, some preparation in linear algebra, and a reasonable acquaintance with elementary complex analysis. There are exercises throughout the text, with the more advanced of them providing good challenges to the student.
