Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Performing in a high G environment is extremely demanding on the body: pulling G forces blood to the body’s extremities, putting the pilot, astronaut or driver at risk of G-Induced Lack of Consciousness (G-LOC). In “Pulling G” Erik Seedhouse describes what it feels like to pull 7 G in a fighter plane and the G pressures on the body when driving a Formula 1 car and many other gravity-defying vehicles. The book relates, for the first time, the effects of G in both hyper-gravity and microgravity. It describes the human response to increased and decreased G and the potentially dangerous effects of high G, with particular reference to dynamic injuries sustained in high acceleration environments. “Pulling G” provides an overview of G-related research and the development of intervention methods to mitigate the effects of increased and reduced G. As well as relating the training required to overcome G-forces on the Formula 1 track, Erik Seedhouse looks at the G forces encountered in such G environments as ejection from an aircraft, launch/re-entry, and zero-G. The book also considers how artificial gravity can be used to prevent bone demineralization and to reduce the effects of de-conditioning in astronauts. Erik Seedhouse is eminently qualified to describe the effects of large accelerations on the body. In addition to being the author of several previously published Springer Praxis books, he has developed astronaut-training protocols and is the training director for Astronauts for Hire (A4H). He is also the Canadian Forces’ High Risk Acceleration Training Officer.

Book excerpt: The original price of this book is estimated at 15 trillion United States American dollars. Reason; Zero Gravity is a concept which will soon overlap our day to day functionings. Care must be taken here to correlate zero gravity machines with the simple term signifying "zero gravity". The author, Deep Bora does not intend identifying a far more common usage term for ' zero gravity ' as weightlessness effects in outer space when earth's gravitational force stops asserting its influence upon humans and other inanimate objects! No. In this book: Emphasis is placed on machines which can successfully create zero gravity effects for fuelling planes, rockets and flight space ships -- upon earth, within earth's atmosphere and in deep space. However, in its entirety this book is a very fast paced futuristic science fiction story. Additionally, you...... The reader, will find detailed lessons intended for the interplanetary investigator. His interplanetary chief of star walks counter 2 intelligentsia teaches him certain subtle and practical lessons. Read on, comprehending how a person can become totally calm and composed from within. ..... Controlling his or her deep internal thoughts and emotions which never surface in one's conscious lifetime. These are those parts of the human psyche which modern medicines, psychology and psychiatry cannot control whatsoever. * It is stated that modern technology and medicine has discovered only one billionth of the human brain and its secretly hidden, concealed activities. Wow. That upon discovering and revealing 2 billionths of the human brain, humans will be able to regenerate their hairs and teeth many times over through one's lifetime. Etc. That the modern day diseases will become matters of the past and controlled human regeneration -- after degeneration inevitably occurs -- under suitable medical advice will take over. That was slightly off regular course and a slight diversion. It is comparable to modern day robotic operations being performed by computerized machines inside hi tech operation theatres. Of course the presence of experienced medical surgeons is of utmost necessity under such circumstances! * ......Learn how the inter- planetary investigator ultimately develops such inherent human powers. Understand how easily a person can utilise the strength of an opponent and win a ' friendly' duel -- of any nature. This is a science fiction story involving inter planetary star fields' agents. At a different time, the chief of inter-planetary star fields intelligentsia, teaches the investigator "how one can keep one's mind cool at all times. His lessons continue, on remaining unperturbed even while fighting at close combat positions; utilising the strength of an opponent to win. ************************************ (Low Speed; "Future; Travelling Technique Book.") Wadhwa for a qualified translation. While preparing the manuscript for translation, we took the opportunity to go through the whole text, make necessary amendments, supplement the original material with new results, and considerably enlarge the lists of references. We hope that this book will serv~ to strengthen the bonds of international coopera tion in this field. July 1986 The authors Translator's Note The final form of the bibliography contains a (free) English translation of all the Russian books and papers published in the USSR. This has been done at the request of the authors and with the concurrence of Prof. BeiglMck. The titles are not always exact, and some of the works have already been translated into English or other European languages. Unfortunately, the authors were not in a position to provide detailed information on this subject. R.S. Wadhwa Preface to the Russian Edition What shall I do ... With their weightlessness In this ponderous world? M. Tsvetaeva, The Poet This book deals with the behavior of a liquid in zero-gravity or conditions close to it. The surge of interest in zero-gravity problems stems from the progress attained in the field of spaceflight, where such conditions can be attained for long periods of time.

Book excerpt: From a VICE magazine columnist, “a deeply entertaining—if occasionally horrifying” (Joshua Piven, coauthor of The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook) look at how humanity is likely to weather such happenings as nuclear war, a global internet collapse, antibiotics shortages, and even immortality. If you live on planet Earth you’re probably scared of the future. How could you not be? Some of the world’s most stable democracies are looking pretty shaky. Technology is invading personal relationships and taking over jobs. Relations among the three superpowers—the US, China, and Russia—are growing more complicated and dangerous. A person watching the news has to wonder: is it safe to go out there or not? Taking inspiration from his virally popular VICE column “How Scared Should I Be?,” Mike Pearl games out many of the “could it really happen?” scenarios we’ve all speculated about, assigning a probability rating, and taking us through how it would unfold. He explores what would likely occur in dozens of possible scenarios—among them the final failure of antibiotics, the loss of the world’s marine life, a complete ban on guns in the US, and even contact with extraterrestrial life—and reports back from the future, providing a clear picture of how the world would look, feel, and even smell in each of these instances. For fans of such bestsellers as What If? and The Worst Case Scenario Survival Handbook, The Day It Finally Happens is about taking future events that we don’t really understand and getting to know them in close detail. Pearl’s “well-researched speculations induce daydreams and nightmares and mark [him] as one of his generation’s most interesting writers” (Alec Ross, New York Times bestselling author).

In this hilarious yet authoritative illustrated lexicon of climbing terms and slang, former Climbing Editor-in-Chief Matt Samet has compiled a reference of more than 650 terms used by climbers and mountaineers around the world. The Climbing Dictionary runs the gamut from technical terms (belay, harness, rappel, Stopper) to slang (dab, choking the cobra, gaston, old dad, pimpy), to regional (such as the South's "baby-butt" slopers), antiquated ("press-up"), and foreign terms that have achieved universal usage (au cheval, colonnette) and much more. Each word's definition includes its part of speech, origin (if known), its meaning, and a humorous but factually sound example sentence to demonstrate usage. Throughout the dictionary, Mike Tea's illustrations -- both technical and humorous -- help explain harder-to-define terms such as piton, sling, cam, hand jam, or drop-knee. Sure to become the reference -- or even the sicktionary -- for novice climbers and expert mountaineers alike. Are you obsessed with "climbing-ese"? Book excerpt: Experiments in Reduced Gravity: Sediment Settling on Mars is the first book to be published that reflects experiments conducted on Martian geomorphology in reduced gravity. This brief yet important book on sediment experiments assesses the theoretical and empirical foundation of the models used to analyze the increasing information we have on the past geography on Mars. The book also evaluates the need to develop new methods for analyzing new information by providing a conceptual outline and a case study on how experiments can be used to test current theoretical considerations. The conceptual approach to identifying the need for and role of experiments will be of interest to planetary scientists and geoscientists not necessarily involved with Mars, but those using experiments in their research who can apply the book's concepts. - Includes figures, diagrams, illustrations, and photographs to vividly explore experiments and outcomes in reduced gravity - Provides an outline of planned experiments and questions related to Martian geomorphology - Features results from the MarsSedEx 1 Experiment in 2012
