Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades the world has been telling us that God is dead and science has proven it, but is that really true? As the evidence has continued to accumulate, the tide has turned. God is back to full health and not only that, but He is far more awesome and ingenious than we ever imagined. Now it is the scientific establishment that is on the ropes as a century of errors and deception has been unearthed. In Loving Science – But Not the Empire, experimental scientist Jay Sonstroem helps readers discern between the findings of real science and fables, which have been pushed by an entity he calls The Empire. Jay provides short, readable chapters to reveal both the wonders of creation and the schemes and blunders of The Empire, which have resulted from its hijacked version of science. Topics include the hidden truth of DNA, the wonders of biology, the fine-tuning of the universe, and evolution and Darwinism debunked. Is it possible to love science but not worship it? You bet. Does a person who believes in God have to give up Reason? No. Come along and piece together the puzzle of life, the universe, and everything in between. What you believe about your origins has everything to do with what you believe about your destiny. Follow the light, find the Truth, and together, let’s free science from a Godless agenda.
Download or read book Empire State written by Jason Shiga and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2011-06-24 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jimmy is a stereotypical geek who works at the library in Oakland, California, and is trapped in his own torpidity. Sara is his best friend, but she wants to get a life (translation: an apartment in Brooklyn and a publishing internship). When Sara moves to New York City, Jimmy is rattled. Then lonely. Then desperate. He screws up his courage, writes Sara a letter about his true feelings, and asks her to meet him at the top of the Empire State Building (a nod to their ongoing debate about Sleepless in Seattle). Jimmy's cross-country bus trip to Manhattan is as hapless and funny as Jimmy himself. When he arrives in the city he's thought of as "a festering hellhole," he's surprised by how exciting he finds New York, and how heartbreaking—he discovers Sara has a boyfriend! Jason Shiga's bold visual storytelling, sly pokes at popular culture, and subtle text work together seamlessly in Empire State, creating a quirky graphic novel comedy about the vagaries of love and friendship. Praise for Empire State: "He [Shiga] displays a wicked sense of comic timing." -Publishers Weekly "Empire State: A Love Story (Or Not) is funny, sweet, geeky and affecting, and definitely worth a read." -Wired.com "Shiga's illustrations . . . are unique and endearing, and his images of NYC are instantly recognizable." -am New York "If Woody Allen grew up in Oakland rather than Manhattan, he'd most likely see the world, and especially New York City, as Jason Shiga does in Empire State." -Big Think.com

Great fun." - SFX on Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City This is the history of how the City was saved, by Notker the professional liar, written down because eventually the truth always seeps through. The City may be under siege, but everyone still has to make a living. Take Notker, the acclaimed playwright, actor, and impresario. Nobody works harder, even when he's not working. Thankfully, it turns out that people enjoy the theater just as much when there are big rocks falling out of the sky. But Notker is a man of many talents, and all the world is, apparently, a stage. It seems that the empire needs him -- or someone who looks a lot like him -- for a role that will call for the performance of a lifetime. At least it will guarantee fame, fortune, and immortality. If it doesn't kill him first. In the follow up to the acclaimed Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City, K. J. Parker has created one of fantasy's greatest heroes, and he might even get away with it. Download or read book Black Utopia written by Alex Zamalin and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2019-08-20 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the history of African American struggle against racist oppression that often verges on dystopia, a hidden tradition has depicted a transfigured world. Daring to speculate on a future beyond white supremacy, black utopian artists and thinkers offer powerful visions of ways of being that are built on radical concepts of justice and freedom. They imagine a new black citizen who would inhabit a world that soars above all existing notions of the possible. In Black Utopia, Alex Zamalin offers a groundbreaking examination of African American visions of social transformation and their counterutopian counterparts. Considering figures associated with racial separatism, postracialism, anticolonialism, Pan-Africanism, and Afrofuturism, he argues that the black utopian tradition continues to challenge American political thought and culture. Black Utopia spans black nationalist visions of an ideal Africa, the fiction of W. E. B. Du Bois, and Sun Ra’s cosmic mythology of alien abduction. Zamalin casts Samuel R. Delany and Octavia E. Butler as political theorists and reflects on the antiutopian challenges of George S. Schuyler and Richard Wright. Their thought proves that utopianism, rather than being politically immature or dangerous, can invigorate political imagination. Both an inspiring intellectual history and a critique of present power relations, this book suggests that, with democracy under siege across the globe, the black utopian tradition may be our best hope for combating injustice.
