Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Loving hands lift, carry, hold, and give in a tender meditation on the everlasting bond between a parent and a child. Hands wave hello, hands hold, hands heal. Hands say, I am here for you always. In simple, stirring rhymes, author Tony Johnston pens a timeless ode to parenthood. The small moments and quiet scenes that make up childhood — learning to clap, planting a garden, waving good-bye on the first day of school — fill the pages of this gentle tale, capturing the reassurance and love that parents hand their children every day. Warm illustrations by Amy June Bates show a young boy reaching for his mother’s hand as he grows older and more independent . . . until, perhaps, he can be the one to offer love and support with hands that say, I am here for you always. An eloquent look at the passage of time and the power of connection and care, this book is a heartfelt gift for loved ones at any and all milestones in life.

Under the proper circumstances, these institutions, while not always having provided the ideal climate for healthy growth both emotionally and physically, can operate in the best interest of children when they adhere to the precepts of this book. Written in three parts--an overview, the declaration of ten rights, and global voices of experience--In Loving Hands offers an in-depth look at how the quality of care in residential homes can be improved through information, detailed guidance, and applicable tools. After a comprehensive research, the authors have made it their mission to support institutions in successfully caring for young children in group settings where they are able to thrive and grow up to be healthy, happy, and productive members of society.

Book excerpt: The first book-length study of adoption in Japan, this impressive work tackles the innovative and sometimes controversial subject of the policies of adoption agencies in Japan. The book places special adoption in the context of a liberal reformist agenda that has challenged traditional concepts of the family through the efforts to place children with difficult family backgrounds, including mixed and minority ethnic backgrounds. Drawing on empirical source material gathered since the late 1980s, the authors consider the central policy issue of whether agencies should be given a free hand to create their own policies, or whether they should be more tightly regulated. Finally, the book analyzes how different agency strategies for finding homes for hard to place children are related to different assumptions about the psychology and reasoning of prospective parents. Adoption in Japan makes a significant contribution to the academic literature in the fields of Japanese studies, public policy, social work and sociology. It will also be of interest to professionals involved in adoption agencies, specialist social work and adoption panels.

Our daughter struggled with mental illness most of her life, and was diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. I have also experienced the impact of mental illness professionally. I worked as a school nurse/nurse practitioner for 36 years and watched as mental illness became rampant among students. I provided care for countless students who struggled with Anxiety, Depression, Eating Disorders, Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder. I counseled grieving parents who were at a loss as to how to meet their child’s needs. I have experienced the impact of mental illness both personally and professionally. When I retired I started praying for God to show me my next chapter. He revealed to me that He wanted me to start a support group for families who are caring for loved ones with mental illness. There are few support groups out there for families, especially faith-based ones. I also discovered that there were no published Study Guides for this type of support group. So, I stepped out in faith and asked God to guide me in not only starting a new ministry, but also in writing the Study Guide. The Support Group is called “Hope Keepers,” and we are claiming Hebrews 10:23 NKJV, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” This study guide provides practical information, guidance, and most of all hope that comes from the promises of our Heavenly Father.

It would take me a lifetime or multitudes of lifetimes up to and past infinity in infinity life because God’s perfection is beyond me. To truly express how God is perfect in his true wisdom only God knows and of his ways that are not the ways of anyone’s true humanly souls, minds, or heart.
