Book Synopsis The Labyrinths of Love by : Lee Irwin
Download or read book The Labyrinths of Love written by Lee Irwin and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-10-09 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Labyrinths of Love is an interdisciplinary examination of the self, psyche, and soul, providing a comparative analysis from religious, paranormal research and transpersonal theory perspectives. The book addresses ontological questions regarding the nature of the self in relationship to both psyche and soul, each differentiated to reveal attributes that are transphysical and commonly recognized in most religious traditions. The role of dreams, imagination, and paranormal perceptions, as well, contribute to a more fully realized sense of identity. A constructive use of pansentient ontology illuminates how human identity can incorporate transphysical aspects of self into a meaningful theory of self-development and evolutionary becoming. The work creates a unique synthesis that unfolds what it means to be human and demonstrates a visionary epistemology of the self.

The Labyrinth of Tender Force collects 166 of Alexander Kluge's love stories previously concealed among his vast library of more than 2,000 texts. "Basic stories" was what he once called them. Organized thematically, these stories take readers on a flight over the maps--the varied topography--of love. This flight ends on a high plateau, at the heart of the most beautiful romances and a cardinal text of modernity about the economy of relationships: Madame de La Fayette's The Princess of Cleves. The latest offering from one of the greatest living German writers, The Labyrinth of Tender Force masterfully explores the greatest peaks and the most dreadful crevasses of passionate love through an inspired combination of Kluge's vignettes with drawings, photographs, and other archival material culled from diverse sources.

Book Synopsis The Three Secular Plays of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz by : Guillermo Schmidhuber
Download or read book The Three Secular Plays of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz written by Guillermo Schmidhuber and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2014-10-17 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (1648-1695) wrote poetry, prose, and plays and is considered the greatest of Mexican women writers. She was an intellectual prodigy, reportedly mastering Latin in twenty lessons, and at sixteen she entered a convent so that she might continue her learning. One of the most influential early feminists in the New World, she answered a bishop's criticism in a letter that has become a classic defense of the education of women. She collected a private library of 4,000 volumes, but when she was told that her studies were delaying the progress of her spiritual education, she gave away her books and devoted herself to religious studies. Traditionally, scholars have attributed only one complete play to Sor Juana, but in 1989 Guillermo Schmidhuber discovered a lost play, The Second Celestina, which he proved conclusively to be Sor Juana's earliest comedia, co-authored with Agustin Salazar y Torres. Schmidhuber's critical study is the first dedicated exclusively to the secular plays and the first to confirm Sor Juana's authorship of three dramatic pieces. Combining literary history and criticism, Schmidhuber explores the life and originality of Sor Juana's dramas and helps elucidate her enigmatic genius. Though Sor Juana's work as a poet and intellectual has received increasing attention in the last decade, writing about her has rarely taken into account her role as dramatist. Schmidhuber helps correct this critical imbalance by examining Sor Juana's plays in light of dramatic theory. He finds elements of both mannerist and baroque theater in her work, sometimes both within the same play.
