You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Catherine Soból is a Polish peasant woman in the early 1900s, who lives on an orchard outside of Kraków, Poland, and dreams of being an artist. Raised by an iron fist, Catherine is an old-world girl with new world aspirations. But how will she pursue her dreams of artistry when she must conceal her drawings from her father, a pragmatic peasant-farmer, who demands she work to support the family? In fact, much to Catherine’s dismay, he plans to marry her to a local village boy and settle into a life of security on the small apple orchard that is her dowry. Over and above her personal turmoil, the Great War has ended but the fighting over Poland’s border with Ukraine continues. Tension rises in Catherine’s family when she falls in love with Józef, a young, local blacksmith who creates beautiful jewelry and encourages her to follow her heart despite her family’s resistance to her artistic dreams. But the plans others force upon her, along with Józef’s disappearance - and probable death - on the war front, send her life skidding in a direction she must now tolerate but is unable live wholeheartedly. Sold as a “bride” to a crude lout of a man and shipped off to a mountain town in backwoods America, Catherine faces the cold winds of bad chance and other forces that seek to control her destiny, and learns that knowing what she wants, taking risks, and having faith are the keys to unlocking any obstacle that stands in the way of her living the life of her dreams.

Book Synopsis Long March to Freedom by : Tom Hargrove
Download or read book Long March to Freedom written by Tom Hargrove and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2007-12-06 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Running late for work one morning in September 1994, Tom Hargrove, communications director for an international agricultural aid organization in Cali, Colombia, was mildly annoyed when he spotted a roadblock, or retén, manned by soldiers in fatigues. He chafed at the delay, but told himself that guerrillas and kidnappers didn’t operate on a main highway in broad daylight. But Hargrove had been dreadfully mistaken. Despite his assertions that he worked for a non-profit agricultural agency, he was forced at gunpoint into a vehicle and driven into the mountains by communist narco-terrorists who believed he was a valuable hostage. For almost a year, Hargrove was held by the guerillas and moved from one remote location to another. To maintain his grip on sanity, he recorded his daily experiences in makeshift journals: in a checkbook; on children’s notebooks; and on scraps of paper scrounged during his ordeal. Hargrove’s story, originally published in 1995, was the basis for the major motion picture Proof of Life, starring Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan. Now available again in paperback, Long March to Freedom chronicles one man’s spirited determination to hang onto life and faith amid nearly impossible circumstances.
Book Synopsis You Don't Have to Go There by : Raymond Tapp
Download or read book You Don't Have to Go There written by Raymond Tapp and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 607 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book I of IV This book is about a man's everyday life in prison (that man being me). To me, my life in prison was about "bettering" myself by staying positive in all that I did. You asked, "Raymond what did you do for five year?" (while incarcerated). Well, I read, I wrote, I went to school, and I went to almost every church service I could. I became a chapel aide at the last two prisons where I was incarcerated. As you will find as you begin to read this book, I also took care of my physical body by working out, doing push- ups, crunches, working out at the weight pile and of course doing a lot of walking! Anything I could do to better myself physically and mentally I did. I wrote a lot of poetry, along with writing this book journal that you are about to read. I 'm sure you will feel emotional, sad, and even smiling at times. I was always truthful and I prayed a lot. I'm sure you will be blessed and at times excited as you read about a man's everyday life in prison. I suggest you read slowly and visualize what a man goes through in everyday life in prison. It was God and His presence that seen me through a five- years incarceration. May you be blessed Sincerely Ray Tapp 2018

Book Synopsis Miracles Are for Today by : Troy Edwards
Download or read book Miracles Are for Today written by Troy Edwards and published by Troy Edwards. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For centuries the place of miracles in the church has been debated. This controversy remains in our day. Numerous views and theological positions are advocated in defense or rejection of miracles for today. There are some who believe they are for today, some who outright deny their validity for today, and some who remain unsure. Even among those who believe that God has never ceased working miracles there are a number of perspectives ranging from the idea that they are rare, that they are spontaneous and happen only at God's sovereign whim, and then there are those who believe that a faith-filled group of Christians who believe God's promises can experience them frequently. In his book, Miracles Are For Today, Pastor Troy J. Edwards refutes the idea that God's miracles are only for a past generation and explains from Scripture how God's people can experience frequent miracles in their corporate worship as well as within their personal lives. Get ready to believe God for a miracle today.
