Environmental concerns are being pursued with renewed vigour, The urgency of developing new, robust infrastructure relevant for the new world is gaining wider consensus. By 2030, as reports suggest, cyber – physical systems, internet of things and wearable technology will be everywhere and in everything, renewable energy will power the world, and digital entertainment will take centre stage among other developments. The third edition of the conference on “Interdisciplinary Research in Technology and Management” attempts to spotlight the above concerns. The number of tracks on which papers are invited from scholars, researchers, consultants and practitioners to share their interdisciplinary research and consultative work has been enlarged. The Society celebrated the 15th year of its existence. It was founded in 1974 as the American Association for the Advancement of Tension-Control which held annual meetings in Chicago through 1979. Recognizing the multi-national interest in stress and tension control, the association changed its name and scope accordingly. The original American Association was founded and nurtured for many years by Dr. and Mrs. Edmund Jacobson and Professor F. J. McGuigan. The proceedings of the first international conference in London were also published by Plenum Publishing Company (Stress and Tension Contral, McGuigan, Sime and Wallace, 1980), as were those of the second international conference which was held at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England (McGuigan, Sime and Wallace, 1984). These and the publication of the proceedings from 1974 reflect the interest in stress and tension control that has grown steadily throughout the past decades, as also does the publication of numerous other books related to Stress Management.

Book excerpt: Vulnerability and resilience are concepts that have long been treated as individual and contradicting topics. In recent times, we have seen that vulnerabilities and resilience can go hand in hand and that vulnerabilities cannot be conceptualized only in simple terms because intersectionality must be considered as well as social, organizational, and systemic aspects and processes. One example is that women are more vulnerable (higher values in nearly all stress related measures) in the COVID-19 pandemic. This finding has to be analyzed from an intersectional perspective, because socio-economic factors, cultural factors, exposure to COVID-19 and the type of occupation (e.g. healthcare sector, frontline workers) play an important role in how vulnerable or resilient women can be in a given society. The large number of studies on COVID-19 vulnerabilities makes it necessary to take a closer look at the resilience factors that often go hand in hand with potential vulnerabilities. As we see in the literature about pandemics in general and COVID-19, there are some individual, organizational and systemic vulnerabilities that can be found in all pandemics. From that we can assume that there will be resilience factors within the same concepts that may buffer vulnerabilities.
