Download or read book Digital Instrumentation and Control Systems in Nuclear Power Plants written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1997-05-18 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nuclear industry and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) have been working for several years on the development of an adequate process to guide the replacement of aging analog monitoring and control instrumentation in nuclear power plants with modern digital instrumentation without introducing off-setting safety problems. This book identifies criteria for the USNRC's review and acceptance of digital applications in nuclear power plants. It focuses on eight areas: software quality assurance, common-mode software failure potential, systems aspects of digital instrumentation and control technology, human factors and human-machine interfaces, safety and reliability assessment methods, dedication of commercial off-the-shelf hardware and software, the case-by-case licensing process, and the adequacy of technical infrastructure.

Book Synopsis Nuclear Power Plant Security and Vulnerabilities by : Mark Holt
Download or read book Nuclear Power Plant Security and Vulnerabilities written by Mark Holt and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-12 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physical security of nuclear power plants (NPP) and their vulnerability to acts of terrorism was elevated to a national security concern following the 9/11 attacks. Since then, Congress has focused oversight and legislative attention on NPP security requirements. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 act required NRC to conduct ¿force-on-force¿ security exercises at NPP at least once every 3 years. In these exercises, a mock adversary force from outside a NPP attempts to penetrate the plant¿s vital area and simulate damage to key safety components. Contents of this report: Overview of Reactor Security; Design Basis Threat; Large Aircraft Crashes; Force-On-Force Exercises; Emergency Response; Spent Fuel Storage; and Security Personnel.
Download or read book Nuclear Power written by Pavel Tsvetkov and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-09-06 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the onset of the 21st century, we are searching for reliable and sustainable energy sources that have a potential to support growing economies developing at accelerated growth rates, technology advances improving quality of life and becoming available to larger and larger populations. The quest for robust sustainable energy supplies meeting the above constraints leads us to the nuclear power technology. Today's nuclear reactors are safe and highly efficient energy systems that offer electricity and a multitude of co-generation energy products ranging from potable water to heat for industrial applications. Catastrophic earthquake and tsunami events in Japan resulted in the nuclear accident that forced us to rethink our approach to nuclear safety, requirements and facilitated growing interests in designs, which can withstand natural disasters and avoid catastrophic consequences. This book is one in a series of books on nuclear power published by InTech. It consists of ten chapters on system simulations and operational aspects. Our book does not aim at a complete coverage or a broad range. Instead, the included chapters shine light at existing challenges, solutions and approaches. Authors hope to share ideas and findings so that new ideas and directions can potentially be developed focusing on operational characteristics of nuclear power plants. The consistent thread throughout all chapters is the "system-thinking" approach synthesizing provided information and ideas. The book targets everyone with interests in system simulations and nuclear power operational aspects as its potential readership groups - students, researchers and practitioners.

This book was released on 1992 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume covers a wider view of the aspects of control of nuclear power stations by taking into consideration the plant as a whole and the protection systems employed therein. Authors with world-wide experience consider all the aspects of dynamics and control in the context of both fast and thermal power stations. The topics discussed include both the methods of development and applications within - analysis of plant behaviour, validation of mathematical models, plant testing, design and implementation of controls.

Book Synopsis Design and Construction of Nuclear Power Plants by : Rüdiger Meiswinkel
Download or read book Design and Construction of Nuclear Power Plants written by Rüdiger Meiswinkel and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-10 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite all the efforts being put into expanding renewable energy sources, large-scale power stations will be essential as part of a reliable energy supply strategy for a longer period. Given that they are low on CO2 emissions, many countries are moving into or expanding nuclear energy to cover their baseload supply. Building structures required for nuclear plants whose protective function means they are classified as safety-related, have to meet particular construction requirements more stringent than those involved in conventional construction. This book gives a comprehensive overview from approval aspects given by nuclear and construction law, with special attention to the interface between plant and construction engineering, to a building structure classification. All life cycle phases are considered, with the primary focus on execution. Accidental actions on structures, the safety concept and design and fastening systems are exposed to a particular treatment. Selected chapters from the German concrete yearbook are now being published in the new English "Beton-Kalender Series" for the benefit of an international audience. Since it was founded in 1906, the Ernst & Sohn "Beton-Kalender" has been supporting developments in reinforced and prestressed concrete. The aim was to publish a yearbook to reflect progress in "ferro-concrete" structures until - as the book's first editor, Fritz von Emperger (1862-1942), expressed it - the "tempestuous development" in this form of construction came to an end. However, the "Beton-Kalender" quickly became the chosen work of reference for civil and structural engineers, and apart from the years 1945-1950 has been published annually ever since.

Book Synopsis Protection Against Internal and External Hazards in the Operation of Nuclear Power Plants by : IAEA
Download or read book Protection Against Internal and External Hazards in the Operation of Nuclear Power Plants written by IAEA and published by International Atomic Energy Agency. This book was released on 2022-03-30 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Safety Guide provides specific recommendations on protection against internal and external hazards in the operation of nuclear power plants. It provides new or updated recommendations derived from enhanced understanding of operational aspects of hazards and combinations of hazards. Operating experience gained from incidents and accidents in nuclear power plants around the world has demonstrated that fire can be an important risk contributor in many Member States. However, there are other internal and external hazards that have also to be considered in the design and operation of nuclear power plants. This Safety Guide supersedes and expands the scope of lAEA Safety Standards Series No. NS- G-2. 1, Fire Safety in the Operation of Nuclear Power Plants, to include recommendations on these other hazards.
