Book Synopsis Factors That Contribute to Successful Schools: A Caribbean Perspective by : Eulalie Daley Semper
Download or read book Factors That Contribute to Successful Schools: A Caribbean Perspective written by Eulalie Daley Semper and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-10-17 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores various factors that contribute to successful schools in the Caribbean. Based on my own personal and professional experience, I define successful schools as those schools where high-quality teaching takes place in a supportive environment. In these schools, spiritual leaders seek to work with educational stakeholders to develop and facilitate a culture of excellence. Therefore, I have decided to examine teacher development, community involvement, spiritual leadership, servant leadership, and an established culture of success as additional factors that can contribute to successful schools in the Antiguan context. However, this study can yield valuable information that can be used to assess educational practices within different types of schools regionally and globally since one of its main aims is to explore stakeholders’ perceptions on the contributing factors to schools’ academic success. In this book, educational practitioners, policy makers, and institutional leaders will find principles of success that will affect principal leadership, classroom learning, and student achievement.

Book Synopsis Foundation Subjects and Religious Education in the Primary School by : Peter D. Pumfrey
Download or read book Foundation Subjects and Religious Education in the Primary School written by Peter D. Pumfrey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-07 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1993. This volume brings together writings of specialists in the key components of both the whole and the basic curriculum. It sets out to describe and discuss cultural diversity and the whole curriculum from a variety of perspectives and to consider how the concerns of ethnic groups may be addressed within the framework of the national curriculum. To this end, specialists in areas of the curriculum consider some of the challenges and describe promising practices in the secondary school. Much remains undecided concerning the structure, content, pedagogy and assessment of many components of the primary-school curriculum. Despite these considerations, the multicultural nature of the population and of schools will develop. These developments and their educational implications must be considered if the educational system is to respond adequately. Although the ‘rules of the curricular game’ are still being negotiated in relation to a number of aspects of the curriculum, the editors have deliberately ventured into this controversial field. They do so because of the increasing importance of ethnic diversity of the school population and of the country.

Book Synopsis Making a Global City by : Robert Vipond
Download or read book Making a Global City written by Robert Vipond and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2017-04-24 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Half of Toronto’s population is born outside of Canada and over 140 languages are spoken on the city's streets and in its homes. How to build community amidst such diversity is one of the global challenges that Canada – and many other western nations – has to face head on. Making a Global City critically examines the themes of diversity and community in a single primary school, the Clinton Street Public School in Toronto, between 1920 and 1990. From the swift and seismic shift from a Jewish to southern European demographic in the 1950s to the gradual globalized community starting in the 1970s, Vipond eloquently and clearly highlights the challenges posed by multicultural citizenship in a city that was dominated by Anglo-Protestants. Contrary to recent well-documented anti-immigrant rhetoric in the media, Making a Global City celebrates one of the world’s most multicultural cities while stressing the fact that public schools are a vital tool in integrating and accepting immigrants and children in liberal democracies.
Book Synopsis Institutional Context of Education Systems in Europe by : R.H. Hofman
Download or read book Institutional Context of Education Systems in Europe written by R.H. Hofman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-16 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on empirical analysis using configuration theory and multi-dimensional scaling, this book provides insight into types of relationships that can be found between groups of countries with certain institutional context features, and into the quality and equity of their education system. In this volume, the authors take up the challenge of considering what a European ‘settlement’ might look like. In doing so, they take into account worldwide trends and the increasing evidence of convergence across educational systems. The outcomes of comparative analyses seem to suggest that strong education systems in terms of finance, governance and choice could be preferable. To a greater or lesser extent, therefore, all the systems of education currently in use in Europe face some common challenges. The way in which these challenges are addressed will determine the future of these systems. Key elements in the current debate that are considered in greater detail in this volume include changing views on (a) centre-local relations with signs of an increasing commitment to decentralisation as a guiding principle for developing school governance; (b) school autonomy which is now increasingly regarded as the engine-room for school improvement, especially in relation to sustaining it; and (c) the celebration of community and school choice as a means of securing higher levels of parental involvement. This volume will be of interest to researchers and practitioners working in education, educational research and sociology of education. It will also be of relevance to those interested in the comparison of various education systems and in governance, funding of education and school choice.
