Book excerpt: A riveting debut novel of a season in the life of a professional football player-written by one of the NFL's best tight ends of all time. Dominic Fucillo is a tight end for the surging New York Giants. Rebellious, ferociously angry, deeply religious and fighting injuries and a crumbling love life that would bring the average man to his knees, Dom is a veteran player who is having the toughest season of his career at a time when his team can do nothing wrong--or so it seems. Because behind the big wins, a major scandal is brewing. The team's star linebacker has always lived on the edge and enjoyed the nightlife more than he should. But when he's found beaten nearly to death in the stadium parking lot, it's clear he's gotten himself into more than even he bargained for, and it's something that threatens to tear himself and his team's promising season apart. Inspired by his years shedding blood and sweat playing professional football, ROUGH & TUMBLE is Mark Bavaro's novel about the brutal world of the NFL-and a classic sports story of one man's determination and grit.

Book excerpt: Witty, warm, and poignant, food blogger Sasha Martin's memoir about cooking her way to happiness and self-acceptance is a culinary journey like no other. Over the course of 195 weeks, food writer and blogger Sasha Martin set out to cook—and eat—a meal from every country in the world. As cooking unlocked the memories of her rough-and-tumble childhood and the loss and heartbreak that came with it, Martin became more determined than ever to find peace and elevate her life through the prism of food and world cultures. From the tiny, makeshift kitchen of her eccentric, creative mother, to a string of foster homes, to the house from which she launched her own cooking adventure, Martin's heartfelt, brutally honest memoir reveals the power of cooking to bond, to empower, and to heal—and celebrates the simple truth that happiness is created from within. "This beautifully written book is both poignant and uplifting. Not to mention delicious. It's an amazing family tale that reminds me of The Glass Castle, but with more food. And not just any food: We're talking cinnamon raisin pizza." —A.J. Jacobs, author of The Year of Living Biblically "Life From Scratch is an unconventional love story. This beautiful book begins with the quest of cooking a meal from every country—a noble feat of it's own!—but then turns it into something far beyond a kitchen adventure. Be prepared to be changed as you experience Sasha's journey for yourself." —Chris Guillebeau, author of The Happiness Pursuit

Book excerpt: The much-acclaimed BookTok sensation, Olivie Blake's The Atlas Six--now newly revised and edited with additional content. • The tag #theatlassix has millions of views on TikTok • A dark academic debut fantasy with an established cult following that reads like THE SECRET HISTORY meets THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY • The first in an explosive trilogy The Alexandrian Society, caretakers of lost knowledge from the greatest civilizations of antiquity, are the foremost secret society of magical academicians in the world. Those who earn a place among the Alexandrians will secure a life of wealth, power, and prestige beyond their wildest dreams, and each decade, only the six most uniquely talented magicians are selected to be considered for initiation. Enter the latest round of six: Libby Rhodes and Nico de Varona, unwilling halves of an unfathomable whole, who exert uncanny control over every element of physicality. Reina Mori, a naturalist, who can intuit the language of life itself. Parisa Kamali, a telepath who can traverse the depths of the subconscious, navigating worlds inside the human mind. Callum Nova, an empath easily mistaken for a manipulative illusionist, who can influence the intimate workings of a person’s inner self. Finally, there is Tristan Caine, who can see through illusions to a new structure of reality—an ability so rare that neither he nor his peers can fully grasp its implications. When the candidates are recruited by the mysterious Atlas Blakely, they are told they will have one year to qualify for initiation, during which time they will be permitted preliminary access to the Society’s archives and judged based on their contributions to various subjects of impossibility: time and space, luck and thought, life and death. Five, they are told, will be initiated. One will be eliminated. The six potential initiates will fight to survive the next year of their lives, and if they can prove themselves to be the best among their rivals, most of them will. Most of them. Years later, when Mark and Fran are nearing middle age and Nat is a troubled teenager, Mark’s life is ripped apart, forever changed, and he must choose between returning to his old home in New Jersey or trying to rebuild what is left of his life and family in the place of his greatest joy and deepest sorrow. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Canada is known for its wild and diverse physical geography. But do Canadians have a spiritual geography- an identity uniquely shaped by their land, their history, their people? This first-of-its-kind collection brings together writings from within the Christian heritage to help Canadians explore that question. The forty-six contributors include award-winning literary figures, religious and political leaders, and social activists from one end of Canada to the other. Their traditions range from evangelical to Catholic, mainline Protestant to Orthodox, Pentecostal to Mennonite. Some still have family connections beyond Canada's borders; others have ancestors who were her long before Europeans came. These writers do not analyze, define, or argue about Christianity in Canada. They simply showcase it through their memoir or poetry, fiction or meditation -mapping into words something of what it means to be Christian in this country. The spiritual landscape they paint is diverse, inspiring, and provocative. It's a colourful dance of words, a wonderful Canadian celebration.

Book excerpt: Stuart Favill and I share the same birthday and year of birth, I'm not sure if we share the same minute, but we do both share a love of poetry and music and our influences are very similar. It's probably why I find it so easy to relate to his words, because we come from the same world at the same time. His words are clear and concise, never wandering on aimlessly, like so many people's lives. We have both also worked in areas with the most vulnerable of society and poems of his, such as 'Cutting', really reach the heart with their frank and direct observations. Stuart has a way of communicating without pretence some very powerful feelings and observations on life and can make extremely valid points. Yet he still maintains a sense of humour that manifests itself at many a lingual turn. We are aware of the social and family issues dealt with in poems like 'The Devil In The Corner', and Stuart makes clear the dangers of that little box that I am now writing on! In the 'Rite Of Passage', he shares with unashamed honesty the feelings he had when his mother passed away, and that is, I think, the root of Stuart's poetical strength, his honesty, even when it may be uncomfortable. In this collection, there is a poem which everyone should be able to relate to, if not many, a moving and entertaining view of life from Stuart Favill's eyeline. Tony Stringfellow. Tony Stringfellow is an accomplished artist, sculptor, performer, poet and author. His works include the acclaimed book, 'The Wizard's Gown' a study of the lyrics of Marc Bolan, (T.Rex) and 'Silent Solitudes', a collection of thought provoking poetry.
