Johnson, Goldsmith, Burke, Fielding, Smollett, Sterne, Sheridan, Beattie, Chat terton, Crabbe, Boswell, and many another went up thither, as their predecessors for generations had done, to seek their literary fortune or to enjoy their new established fame.
