Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The birth of this book, “100 Creative Musings by Various poets” is a result of various contributions by aspiring poets. Writing Poetry is not like a regular story, novel or literature. It is a genre by itself, using varied poetic devices, conventions to suggest differential interpretations of words, or to evoke emotional responses among its readers. For a poet in their journey, appreciation of the words they write, convey a message about elements in their daily life or a general viewpoint. It is the greatest milestone when our poem is appreciated well. We, poets are on this journey, we can never claim we are well established. Only our followers can credit our good or moderate poems in our writing. Book Synopsis Applying Next Generation Sequencing and Transgenic Models to Rare Disease Research by : Arvin M. Gouw
Download or read book Applying Next Generation Sequencing and Transgenic Models to Rare Disease Research written by Arvin M. Gouw and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2020-03-03 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rare disease is a disease that occurs infrequently in the general population, typically affecting fewer than 200,000 Americans at any given time. More than 30 million people in the United States of America (USA) and 350 million people globally suffer from rare diseases. Out of the 7000+ known rare diseases, less than 5% have approved treatments. Rare diseases are frequently chronic, progressive, degenerative, and life-threatening, compromising the lives of patients by loss of autonomy. In the USA, it can take years for a rare disease patient to receive a correct diagnosis. The socioeconomic burden for rare disease is huge. For those living with diagnosed rare diseases, there is no support system or resource bank for navigating financial, educational, or other aspects of having a rare disease. The purpose of this Research Topic is to bring together leading researchers, non-profit organizations, healthcare providers/diagnostic companies, and pharma/biotech/CROs in the field to provide a broad perspective on the latest advances, challenges, and opportunities in rare disease research. A genomic approach to rare disease research is becoming the key to discovering unknown causes behind these syndromes. Genomic rare disease research has attracted not only academic researchers but also researchers from the biotech/pharma and non-profit organizations. The breadth and depth of current genomic approaches in rare disease is largely unexplored. While the creation of novel CRISPR mouse models and the use of NGS (ChIP Seq, RNA Seq, etc) have become more routine for fields such as oncology, rare disease researchers are now making advances in modifying and applying these approaches for rare diseases. This Research Topic provides a fruitful platform for rare disease researchers to share their findings and advance the field of genomics research in the rare disease space.

Book Synopsis Medieval Studies and the Ghost Stories of M. R. James by : Patrick J. Murphy
Download or read book Medieval Studies and the Ghost Stories of M. R. James written by Patrick J. Murphy and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2017-02-28 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Montague Rhodes James authored some of the most highly regarded ghost stories of all time—classics such as “Oh, Whistle, and I’ll Come to You, My Lad” that have been adapted many times over for radio and television and have never gone out of print. But while James is best known as a fiction writer and storyteller, he was also a provost of King’s College, Cambridge, and Eton College, and a legendary and influential scholar whose pioneering work in the study of biblical texts and medieval manuscripts, art, and architecture is still relevant today. In Medieval Studies and the Ghost Stories of M. R. James, Patrick J. Murphy argues that these twin careers are inextricably linked. James’s research not only informed his fiction but also reflected his anxieties about the nature of academic life and explored the delicate divide between professional, university men and erratic hobbyists or antiquaries. Murphy shows how detailed attention to the scholarly inspirations behind James’s fiction provides considerable insight into a formative moment in medieval studies, as well as into James’s methods as a master stylist of understated horror. During his life, James often claimed that his stories were mere entertainments—pleasing distractions from a life largely defined by academic discipline and restraint—and readers over the years have been content to take him at his word. This intriguing volume, however, convincingly proves otherwise.
Book Synopsis Antiracism in Cuba by : Devyn Spence Benson
Download or read book Antiracism in Cuba written by Devyn Spence Benson and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analyzing the ideology and rhetoric around race in Cuba and south Florida during the early years of the Cuban revolution, Devyn Spence Benson argues that ideas, stereotypes, and discriminatory practices relating to racial difference persisted despite major efforts by the Cuban state to generate social equality. Drawing on Cuban and U.S. archival materials and face-to-face interviews, Benson examines 1960s government programs and campaigns against discrimination, showing how such programs frequently negated their efforts by reproducing racist images and idioms in revolutionary propaganda, cartoons, and school materials. Building on nineteenth-century discourses that imagined Cuba as a raceless space, revolutionary leaders embraced a narrow definition of blackness, often seeming to suggest that Afro-Cubans had to discard their blackness to join the revolution. This was and remains a false dichotomy for many Cubans of color, Benson demonstrates. While some Afro-Cubans agreed with the revolution's sentiments about racial transcendence--"not blacks, not whites, only Cubans--others found ways to use state rhetoric to demand additional reforms. Still others, finding a revolution that disavowed blackness unsettling and paternalistic, fought to insert black history and African culture into revolutionary nationalisms. Despite such efforts by Afro-Cubans and radical government-sponsored integration programs, racism has persisted throughout the revolution in subtle but lasting ways.
