Book Synopsis L’avenir du travail en Afrique by : Jieun Choi
Download or read book L’avenir du travail en Afrique written by Jieun Choi and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2021-10-11 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Systemic Innovation by : Dimitri Uzunidis
Download or read book Systemic Innovation written by Dimitri Uzunidis and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-11-03 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INNOVATION IN ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY SET Coordinated by Dimitri Uzunidis Systemic innovation is based on business networks and new business models in a global economy integrated by flows of knowledge, capital, and goods. The authors of this book consider the theory that innovations act as systems based on multi-actor interactions. Innovation is contextualized to demonstrate in what capacity a company or an entrepreneur can innovate. The book details the management of scientific, technical and cognitive resources, the relationships between R&D partners, the creativity and the rules that allow a market and a company to innovate. This contextualization, associated with entrepreneurial strategy, leads to systemic innovation. This book analyzes some key sectors of the economy that are knowledge-intensive and rapidly changing: transport and communications, defense, information technology, artificial intelligence, and the environment.
Download or read book Fab Labs written by Laure Morel and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-06-16 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The digital economy is now expanding rapidly, and is starting to overturn the past achievements of the Industrial Revolution. Initially engaging in the world of services, it is now turning to the manufacture of objects. Just as microcomputing evolved from large scale computing to more personal use, and as the Internet left behind the world of armies and universities to become universal, industrial production is gradually becoming directly controlled by individuals. This appropriation is being done either on a personal level, or, more significantly, within local or planetary communities: Fab Labs. These digital fabrication laboratories offer workshops to members of the public where all sorts of tools are available (including 3D printers, laser cutters and sanders) for the design and creation of personalized objects. The bringing together of various users (amateurs, designers, artists, “dabblers”, etc.) and possibilities for collaboration lies at the heart of these open-access productive spaces. This book covers a range of advances in this new personal fabrication and various issues that it has raised, especially in terms of the alternatives to salaried work, intellectual property, ecological openings and the hitherto unseen structuring of societies.

Book Synopsis The New Spirit of Capitalism by : Luc Boltanski
Download or read book The New Spirit of Capitalism written by Luc Boltanski and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2018-01-16 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New edition of this major work examining the development of neoliberalism In this established classic, sociologists Luc Boltanski and Eve Chiapello get to the heart of contemporary capitalism. Delving deep into the latest management texts informing the thinking of employers, the authors trace the contours of a new spirit of capitalism. They argue that beginning in the mid-1970s, capitalism abandoned the hierarchical Fordist work structure and developed a new network-based form of organization founded on employee initiative and autonomy in the workplace—a putative freedom bought at the cost of material and psychological security. This was a spirit in tune with the libertarian and romantic currents of the period (as epitomized by dressed-down, cool capitalists such as Bill Gates and Ben and Jerry) and, as the authors argue, a more successful, pernicious, and subtle form of exploitation. In this new edition, the authors reflect on the reception of the book and the debates it has stimulated.
Book Synopsis Immigration and Entrepreneurship by : Ivan Hubert Light
Download or read book Immigration and Entrepreneurship written by Ivan Hubert Light and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many nations invite foreigners to work within their borders, but few welcome them. Those countries that do receive a torrent of immigrants create pressures that analysts expect to intensify as population growth and social unrest mount in the less developed countries of the world. Immigration and Entrepreneurship, now in paperback, offers a comparative analysis of worldwide immigration issues while focusing more specifically on the emerging influence of entrepreneurship as a potent factor in the economic and social integration of immigrants. In linking the common immigrant and settler experiences with the upsurge in self-employment, the contributors to this volume use California as their base of comparison. The state has both a huge and varied immigrant population and an entrepreneurial economy that has facilitated the formation of immigrant-owned firms. The Los Angeles riots of the nineties indicated the volatility of the mix. Aided by ethnic and familial networks, such firms have served as a route of economic advancement. Immigration and Entrepreneurship offers a comparative perspective unique in the literature of immigration by broaching the topic from both global and local perspectives. Whereas most studies examine the experience of a single group or groups in a particular destination economy, this volume emphasizes variations in the way different nations receive immigrants as causes of differences in immigrant behavior. Among the innovative themes discussed by a range of international scholars are the entrepreneurial efforts and tensions in the garment industry in Los Angeles, Paris, and Berlin; Koreans' enterprise and identities in Los Angeles and Japan; and U.S. immigration policies. The result is a genuinely global methodology. Ivan Light is professor of sociology at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is the author of numerous articles and books on immigration, entrepreneurs, and urban sociology, including Ethnic Enterprise in America and Cities in World Perspective. Parminder Bhachu is professor of sociology at Clark University, a former Henry R. Luce professor of Cultural Identities and Global Processes, and was director of the Women's Studies program. She is the author of Twice Migrants and Dangerous Designs.
Book Synopsis Concilier flexibilité du travail et cohésion sociale by : Council of Europe
Download or read book Concilier flexibilité du travail et cohésion sociale written by Council of Europe and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

With the evolution of technology and the emergence of a new company profile, certain reflections have emerged, on the one hand, on a new knowledge that will have to be mastered, and on the other hand, on the probable evolution of qualifications. The technological advances so often evoked as accelerated changes in the means of production have caused both the disappearance and appearance of a large number of trades as well as the internal transformation of some. This adds comes to the debate on the extent of organizational changes and the emergence of one or more new flexible organizational models. In this manuscript, we are interested in show the repercussions of the flexible (re)organization of production and its contents regarding of in-locus training [...]

Book Synopsis Tackling Social Exclusion in Europe by : Roger Spear
Download or read book Tackling Social Exclusion in Europe written by Roger Spear and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of an international study by leading economists and sociologists from across Europe and North America. The response of the new social economy (primarily voluntary and co-operative sectors) to social exclusion and employability in the context of crises of unemployment and the welfare state is of wide international concern. This book looks specifically at the growth of enterprises and initiatives whose primary aim is the integration of unemployed and disadvantaged people into work. A common framework has been used in each of the country studies, thus allowing an interesting international comparative perspective to be developed. There is considerable interest in how the third sector is changing internationally in response to rapidly changing work and welfare systems. By distilling international experience this book makes an important contribution to debates about new ways of addressing the central issues of unemployment and social exclusion of disadvantaged people in society.

Book excerpt: Why is it that French chefs tend to develop a syndrome of professional nostalgia? Educated to work in the most prestigious restaurants, they soon discover another reality in common foodservices and are viewed as having made an egotistical professional choice. Regardless of the improvement in their working conditions, their identity is distorted. This book describes foodservices as a whole, including international and inter-industry comparisons in the sociological field of gastronomical professionals, in an attempt to analyze their identities in different stages and diversities.
