Book Synopsis Theory and Best Practice Models in Educational Institutions in Spain and Italy by : Esteban Vázquez Cano
Download or read book Theory and Best Practice Models in Educational Institutions in Spain and Italy written by Esteban Vázquez Cano and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-06-11 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current societal and social reality in Europe is undergoing far-reaching changes due to the phenomenon of migration. Educational policy and pedagogical practice play a key role in the academic support of immigrant children in schools. In this volume, the connections between societal change and educational issues in relation to two southern European nations, Spain and Italy, are analyzed. The stories of intercultural communication and integration of these two case studies focus on five themes: linguistic diversity, the performance gap, teacher training programs and school culture, the role of music education in multicultural and multilingual contexts, and the development of a supranational education as an improvement for multicultural education. The volume is of particular relevance for educational researchers, as well as for the interested general reader. It takes the reader to public and private entities in Italy and Spain, where intercultural education is part of societal discourse, and serves as a sounding board for the discussion of developments in other parts of Europe with similar demographics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Moving Subjects, Moving Objects by : Maruska Svasek
Download or read book Moving Subjects, Moving Objects written by Maruska Svasek and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2012 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most theories of material culture, transnationalism, and globalization have failed to incorporate a focus on emotions even though an increasing number of scholars in recent years have explored emotion-dense processes. This book fills the gap and examines how emotions can be theorized and serve as a useful analytical tool for understanding the interrelated mobility of humans, objects, and images. Through diverse, ethnographically rich and theoretically grounded case studies, these chapters offer new perspectives that relate migration, material culture, and emotions by addressing: the ways in which migrants and migrant artists express their emotions through objects and images in transnational contexts; the ways in which particular works of art, everyday objects, and artifacts evoke specific feelings in migrants and members of migrant communities; and the ways in which artists, academics, and policy makers may stimulate positive interaction between migrants and members of local communities. -- Provided by publisher.

Book Synopsis Constructing Languages by : Francesc Feliu
Download or read book Constructing Languages written by Francesc Feliu and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2016-08-25 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As language historians we believe that the subject of our study is neither natural languages nor idiolects which speakers have always been able to develop individually (loosely what Chomsky calls L-i), but rather the social constructions of reference shared by all speakers (basically what Chomsky terms as L-e ). In this context the language historian essentially studies how a public L-e is built such that it can be understood as the language of all (i.e. hiding L-i variations) and also how L-e succeed in replacing the primary reality of idiolects, even if only in the imagination. Writing represents a crucial turning point in language construction, because it made it possible to materialize the abstraction that, until then, related speakers could only guess and besides it comes into competition with individual languages. In modern centuries, the provision of grammars, dictionaries and other such learning tools and systematizing instruments strengthens the idea that, because of their normative character, languages can be learned through study. Mythical stories encourage the achievement of prescriptive rules and lead speakers to link emotions to their language. Therefore, the topics of reflection that we want to discuss in this volume are: Norms, Myths and Emotions related to language construction.

Book Synopsis Chicago Italians at Work by : Peter N. Pero
Download or read book Chicago Italians at Work written by Peter N. Pero and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2009 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than a century, Italian immigrants and their descendants contributed their labor and talent to building the city. Chicago Italians at Work focuses on a period from 1890 to 1970 when industry was king in this midwestern metropolis. Generations of Italians found work in companies such as U.S. Steel, Western Electric, Pullman, Crane, McCormick/Harvester, Hart Schaffner and Marx, and other large industrial corporations. Other Italians were self-employed as barbers, shoe workers, tailors, musicians, construction workers, and more. In many of these trades, Italians were predominant. A complex network of family enterprises also operated in the Chicago Italian community. Small shopkeepers generated work in food services and retail employment; some of these ma-and-pa operations grew into large, prosperous enterprises that survive today. Finally, Italians helped develop trade unions, which created long-term economic gains for all ethnic groups in Chicago. This book chronicles the labor and contributions of an urban ethnic community through historic photographs and text.

Angelica non riusciva a trovare un lavoro, inoltre aveva perso la sua vena artistica e, come se non bastasse, Richi ultimamente lavorava sempre più...
Book Synopsis Het Nederlandse beroepsonderwijs by : Harry van Lingen
Download or read book Het Nederlandse beroepsonderwijs written by Harry van Lingen and published by Maklu. This book was released on 2012 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1953, the year in which the first European School was founded, publications and systematic research on this unique form of international nursery, primary and secondary education have been limited and fragmented leaving it as relatively blank spot in the international education arena. This book is the first-ever in the almost 60-year history of the European School that removes the obscurity and misconceptions that exist about it in a comprehensive manner. It describes, analyses and evaluates its position emanating from the main research question: what are the most important causes for its rise, what developments has it seen and what results has it achieved considering the studies and careers of its alumni. Furthermore, it is critical of some of its practices, makes suggestions for improvements and opens a debate about future developments. It also touches on current internationalisation efforts and structures in secondary and higher education in some European countries.
