Book Synopsis Linear Spaces and Approximation / Lineare Räume und Approximation by : Butzer
Download or read book Linear Spaces and Approximation / Lineare Räume und Approximation written by Butzer and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication of Oberwolfach conference books was initiated by Birkhauser Publishers in 1964 with the proceedings of the conference 'On Approximation Theory', conducted by P. L. Butzer (Aachen) and J. Korevaar (Amsterdam). Since that auspicious beginning, others of the Oberwolfach proceedings have appeared in Birkhauser's ISNM series. The present volume is the fifth * edited at Aachen in collaboration with an external institution. It once again ad dresses itself to the most recent results on approximation and operator theory, and includes 47 of the 48 lectures presented at Oberwolfach, as well as five articles subsequently submitted by V. A. Baskakov (Moscow), H. Esser (Aachen), G. Lumer (Mons), E. L. Stark (Aachen) and P. M. Tamrazov (Kiev). In addition, there is a section devoted to new and unsolved problems, based upon two special problem sessions augmented by later communications from the participants. Corresponding to the nature of the conference, the aim of the organizers was to solicit both specialized and survey papers, ranging in the broad area of classical and functional analysis, from approximation and interpolation theory to Fourier and harmonic analysis, and to the theory of function spaces and operators. The papers were supplemented by lectures on fields represented for the first time in our series of Oberwolfach Conferences, so for example, complex function theory or probability and sampling theory.

Book Synopsis Linear Approximation by : Arthur Sard
Download or read book Linear Approximation written by Arthur Sard and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1963 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many approximations are linear, that is, conform to the principle of super-position, and may profitably be studied by means of the theory of linear spaces. This book sets forth the pertinent parts of that theory, with particular attention to the key spaces $C_n, B, K$, and Hilbert space.
Book Synopsis Grothendieck Spaces in Approximation Theory by : Jörg Blatter
Download or read book Grothendieck Spaces in Approximation Theory written by Jörg Blatter and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1972 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this work is to study systematically a set of closed vector subspaces - Grothendieck subspaces - of (C sub zero) (T, X), T a locally compact Hausdorff topological space and X a real Banach space, analogous to Grothendieck's set of closed vector subspaces of (C sub zero) (T, R) along with two subsets - Kakutani-Stone and Weierstrass-Stone subspaces - analogous to the sets of closed vector sublattices and closed subalgebras of (C sub zero) (T, R), and to develop, subsequently, a theory of best approximation in (C sub zero) (T, X) by closed vector subspaces in these sets. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineers must make decisions regarding the distribution of expensive resources in a manner that will be economically beneficial. This problem can be realistically formulated and logically analyzed with optimization theory. This book shows engineers how to use optimization theory to solve complex problems. Unifies the large field of optimization with a few geometric principles. Covers functional analysis with a minimum of mathematics. Contains problems that relate to the applications in the book.

Book Synopsis Selected Topics in Approximation and Computation by : Marek Kowalski
Download or read book Selected Topics in Approximation and Computation written by Marek Kowalski and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1995-08-31 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selected Topics in Approximation and Computation addresses the relationship between modern approximation theory and computational methods. The text is a combination of expositions of basic classical methods of approximation leading to popular splines and new explicit tools of computation, including Sinc methods, elliptic function methods, and positive operator approximation methods. It also provides an excellent summary of worst case analysis in information based complexity. It relates optimal computational methods with the theory of s-numbers and n-widths. It can serve as a text for senior-graduate courses in computer science and applied mathematics, and also as a reference for professionals.
Book Synopsis Mathematics of Approximation by : Johan De Villiers
Download or read book Mathematics of Approximation written by Johan De Villiers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-06-30 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The approximation of a continuous function by either an algebraic polynomial, a trigonometric polynomial, or a spline, is an important issue in application areas like computer-aided geometric design and signal analysis. This book is an introduction to the mathematical analysis of such approximation, and, with the prerequisites of only calculus and linear algebra, the material is targeted at senior undergraduate level, with a treatment that is both rigorous and self-contained. The topics include polynomial interpolation; Bernstein polynomials and the Weierstrass theorem; best approximations in the general setting of normed linear spaces and inner product spaces; best uniform polynomial approximation; orthogonal polynomials; Newton-Cotes , Gauss and Clenshaw-Curtis quadrature; the Euler-Maclaurin formula ; approximation of periodic functions; the uniform convergence of Fourier series; spline approximation, with an extensive treatment of local spline interpolation, and its application in quadrature. Exercises are provided at the end of each chapter

Book Synopsis Linear Operator Equations by : M. Thamban Nair
Download or read book Linear Operator Equations written by M. Thamban Nair and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2009 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many problems in science and engineering have their mathematical formulation as an operator equation Tx=y, where T is a linear or nonlinear operator between certain function spaces. In practice, such equations are solved approximately using numerical methods, as their exact solution may not often be possible or may not be worth looking for due to physical constraints. In such situations, it is desirable to know how the so-called approximate solution approximates the exact solution, and what the error involved in such procedures would be. This book is concerned with the investigation of the above theoretical issues related to approximately solving linear operator equations. The main tools used for this purpose are basic results from functional analysis and some rudimentary ideas from numerical analysis. To make this book more accessible to readers, no in-depth knowledge on these disciplines is assumed for reading this book.
