"Wise and wondrous, this is truly a novel to cherish.” —Katherine Applegate, New York Times–bestselling author of Wishtree An Indies Introduce Selection Red’s inexplicable power over the wind comes from her mother. Whenever Ruby “Red” Byrd is scared or angry, the wind picks up. And being placed in foster care, moving from family to family, tends to keep her skies stormy. This time, the wind blows Red into the home of the Grooves, a quirky couple who run a petting zoo, complete with a dancing donkey and a giant tortoise. With their own curious gifts, Celine and Jackson Groove seem to fit like a puzzle piece into Red’s heart. But just when Red starts to settle into her new life, a fresh storm rolls in, one she knows all too well: her mother. For so long, Red has longed to have her mom back in her life, and she’s quickly swept up in the vortex of her mother’s chaos. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The US Constitution never established a presidential cabinet—the delegates to the Constitutional Convention explicitly rejected the idea. So how did George Washington create one of the most powerful bodies in the federal government? On November 26, 1791, George Washington convened his department secretaries—Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, Henry Knox, and Edmund Randolph—for the first cabinet meeting. Why did he wait two and a half years into his presidency to call his cabinet? Because the US Constitution did not create or provide for such a body. Washington was on his own. Faced with diplomatic crises, domestic insurrections, and constitutional challenges—and finding congressional help lacking—Washington decided he needed a group of advisors he could turn to. He modeled his new cabinet on the councils of war he had led as commander of the Continental Army. In the early days, the cabinet served at the president’s pleasure. Washington tinkered with its structure throughout his administration, at times calling regular meetings, at other times preferring written advice and individual discussions. Lindsay M. Chervinsky reveals the far-reaching consequences of Washington’s choice. The tensions in the cabinet between Hamilton and Jefferson heightened partisanship and contributed to the development of the first party system. And as Washington faced an increasingly recalcitrant Congress, he came to treat the cabinet as a private advisory body to summon as needed, greatly expanding the role of the president and the executive branch.

Book excerpt: Buy now to get the main key ideas from James Lindsay's Race Marxism Critical Race Theory is a revolutionary and generally neo-Marxist form of activism, based on the idea that systemic racism was developed and perpetuated by white people to maintain a social framework that gives them a myriad of unfair advantages over people of color, particularly black people. James Lindsay asserts that CRT may sound innocent, but its goals are much darker than one would imagine – its adherents want to take over Western societies and reorganize them, pushing them closer towards Communism. In Race Marxism (2022), Lindsay aims to explore the roots of CRT in order to uncover its true intentions, the threats it poses, and how we can fight it before it’s too late.

Sample Book Insights: #1 Critical Race Theory is a movement pushed by activists and scholars interested in studying and transforming the relationship among race, racism, and power. It is not interested in simply understanding the world, but in changing it so that it conforms to its vision of power dynamics. #2 Despite how clear it is, it is still controversial to accuse Critical Race Theory of being a Marxian Theory. However, the evidence is overwhelming. #3 Critical Race Theory is a form of race Marxism that replaces class with race in order to understand inequality. It believes that the economic inequality classical Marxian Theorists are interested in is not comprehensible without seeing it as another manifestation of systemic racism. #4 Critical Race Theory is a theory that was developed to shift leftist politics away from economic concerns and toward the politics of identity. It was developed by neo-Marxist and Critical Theorists Herbert Marcuse in the 1960s, and it has been used to push Identity Politics in universities ever since.

Sample Book Insights: #1 My journey to love began long before The Bachelorette. I wrote this book to share the experiences and work it took to become the woman you see on TV or might hear on a podcast. Not to present myself as some paragon of success, because I remain a work in progress. #2 I chose the title Miss Me with That because it’s a phrase I’ve been prone to say on the two podcasts I cohost after appearing on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. It’s a way of calling bullshit.
