Download or read book Predictive Inference written by Seymour Geisser and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author's research has been directed towards inference involving observables rather than parameters. In this book, he brings together his views on predictive or observable inference and its advantages over parametric inference. While the book discusses a variety of approaches to prediction including those based on parametric, nonparametric, and nonstochastic statistical models, it is devoted mainly to predictive applications of the Bayesian approach. It not only substitutes predictive analyses for parametric analyses, but it also presents predictive analyses that have no real parametric analogues. It demonstrates that predictive inference can be a critical component of even strict parametric inference when dealing with interim analyses. This approach to predictive inference will be of interest to statisticians, psychologists, econometricians, and sociologists.

Book excerpt: The year 2001 marks the centenary of Biometrika, one of the world's leading academic journals in statistical theory and methodology. In celebration of this, the book brings together two sets of papers from the journal. The first comprises seven specially commissioned articles (authors: D.R. Cox, A.C. Davison, Anthony C. Atkinson and R.A. Bailey, David Oakes, Peter Hall, T.M.F. Smith, and Howell Tong). These articles review the history of the journal and the most important contributions made by appearing in the journal in a number of important areas of statitisical activity, including general theory and methodology, surveys and time sets. In the process the papers describe the general development of statistical science during the twentieth century. The second group of ten papers are a selection of particularly seminal articles form the journal's first hundred years. The book opens with an introduction by the editors Professor D.M. Titterington and Sir David Cox.

Now with an additional author, this second edition places a more balanced emphasis on both perspectives than the first edition. New to the Second Edition New material on empirical Bayes and penalized likelihoods and their impact on regression models Expanded material on hypothesis testing, method of moments, bias correction, and hierarchical models More examples and exercises More comparison between the approaches, including their similarities and differences Designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses, the text thoroughly covers statistical inference without delving too deep into technical details. It compares the Bayesian and frequentist schools of thought and explores procedures that lie on the border between the two. Many examples illustrate the methods and models, and exercises are included at the end of each chapter.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aimed at advanced undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics and related disciplines, this book presents the concepts and results underlying the Bayesian, frequentist and Fisherian approaches, with particular emphasis on the contrasts between them. Computational ideas are explained, as well as basic mathematical theory. Written in a lucid and informal style, this concise text provides both basic material on the main approaches to inference, as well as more advanced material on developments in statistical theory, including: material on Bayesian computation, such as MCMC, higher-order likelihood theory, predictive inference, bootstrap methods and conditional inference. It contains numerous extended examples of the application of formal inference techniques to real data, as well as historical commentary on the development of the subject. Throughout, the text concentrates on concepts, rather than mathematical detail, while maintaining appropriate levels of formality. Each chapter ends with a set of accessible problems.
Book Synopsis Bayesian Statistics and Marketing by : Peter E. Rossi

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past decade has seen a dramatic increase in the use of Bayesian methods in marketing due, in part, to computational and modelling breakthroughs, making its implementation ideal for many marketing problems. Bayesian analyses can now be conducted over a wide range of marketing problems, from new product introduction to pricing, and with a wide variety of different data sources. Bayesian Statistics and Marketing describes the basic advantages of the Bayesian approach, detailing the nature of the computational revolution. Examples contained include household and consumer panel data on product purchases and survey data, demand models based on micro-economic theory and random effect models used to pool data among respondents. The book also discusses the theory and practical use of MCMC methods. Written by the leading experts in the field, this unique book: Presents a unified treatment of Bayesian methods in marketing, with common notation and algorithms for estimating the models. Provides a self-contained introduction to Bayesian methods. Includes case studies drawn from the authors’ recent research to illustrate how Bayesian methods can be extended to apply to many important marketing problems. Is accompanied by an R package, bayesm, which implements all of the models and methods in the book and includes many datasets. In addition the book’s website hosts datasets and R code for the case studies. Bayesian Statistics and Marketing provides a platform for researchers in marketing to analyse their data with state-of-the-art methods and develop new models of consumer behaviour. It provides a unified reference for cutting-edge marketing researchers, as well as an invaluable guide to this growing area for both graduate students and professors, alike.
Book Synopsis Kendall's Advanced Theory of Statistic 2B by : Anthony O'Hagan
Download or read book Kendall's Advanced Theory of Statistic 2B written by Anthony O'Hagan and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-03-08 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kendall's Advanced Theory of Statistics and Kendall's Library of Statistics The development of modern statistical theory in the past fifty years is reflected in the history of the late Sir Maurice Kenfall's volumes The Advanced Theory of Statistics. The Advanced Theory began life as a two-volume work, and since its first appearance in 1943, has been an indispensable source for the core theory of classical statistics. With Bayesian Inference, the same high standard has been applied to this important and exciting new body of theory.
