As a child with a heart defect, I remember going through medical procedures and test which left me with scars that saved my life. Told through one of our hens, that in fact, has a scar. With a sense of humor and colorful illustrations, she tells the story to her animal friends, about how she came about her scar and the medical procedures she went through. She realizes the scar is what helped her to have a normal life and how the medical staff made her feel safe. This story has many lessons. More stories about other test to follow. Dedicated to my parents, my family, my friends, and all the medical staff that took care of me.

Book excerpt: From the farm to the jobs that protect our freedoms, this book shows and tells through the words and colored pencil illustrations. Trooper chuckled at this answer and said, "Funny Face has a job?" "Why yes," I replied. "Everyone of us has a job to do. The hens lay eggs for people to eat. That is their job." I told him people have jobs too. That is what makes the world go 'round.

Book excerpt: This book is composed of stories related to the many experiences the author and her husband have gone through as hobby farmers over the past several years. Lessons in Farm Life includes tales of cows, sheep, turkeys, chickens, dogs, and horses. About twenty years ago, we started out as novices, and through the years we have learned many lessons about living life on a farm. Author Nancy Grahams original purpose in writing this book was to have something tangiblewith life experiences and spiritual lessonsin order to pass down to her family. As she got further on in the writing process and began relating the many spiritual applications that could be taken from these stories, she realized the book could be a great encouragement to many Christians. This is especially true considering the traumatic and heart-wrenching events that took place within the family before the writing of this book was complete.

Book excerpt: An inspiring and moving memoir of the author's turbulent life with 600 rescue animals. Laurie Zaleski never aspired to run an animal rescue; that was her mother Annie’s dream. But from girlhood, Laurie was determined to make the dream come true. Thirty years later as a successful businesswoman, she did it, buying a 15-acre farm deep in the Pinelands of South Jersey. She was planning to relocate Annie and her caravan of ragtag rescues—horses and goats, dogs and cats, chickens and pigs—when Annie died, just two weeks before moving day. In her heartbreak, Laurie resolved to make her mother's dream her own. In 2001, she established the Funny Farm Animal Rescue outside Mays Landing, New Jersey. Today, she carries on Annie’s mission to save abused and neglected animals. Funny Farm is Laurie’s story: of promises kept, dreams fulfilled, and animals lost and found. It’s the story of Annie McNulty, who fled a nightmarish marriage with few skills, no money and no resources, dragging three kids behind her, and accumulating hundreds of cast-off animals on the way. And lastly, it's the story of the brave, incredible, and adorable animals that were rescued. Although there are some sad parts (as life always is), there are lots of laughs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 20th century heralded the greatest technological changes of any century. My Dad lived through virtually all of it - from 1898 to 1997. He served in two world wars and raised two families. Even though my Dad was a quiet man, he shared with me his stories and he shared with me his soul. His advice was always sage and he took a deep interest in the lives of his children, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. Aside from his military service, he was a self employed man - home builder, farmer, logger. This book views the 20th century through his eyes. For me it was a labour of love and an opportunity to revisit the many lessons I learned through knowing him, his life, his hopes, his dreams and his disappointments. His only regret in life was not completing his science degree at Queen’s University. He was in the class of ‘23, enrolling after returning from his overseas service in World War I in which all three of his brothers were wounded. He rarely talked about war, except to say it was a waste. Dad had a great sense of humour. He loved to read and enjoyed good movies and in his later years we watched many movies together. But mostly he worked hard. He always did whatever was necessary, but only after thinking the task through and figuring out the best way to accomplish his goals.

This book was released on 2010-08-15 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s not a job you want to take on without a sense of humor. Oops--it’s not a job at all. It’s an all-encompassing life, being a country woman on the ranch or farm, and with wit and equanimity like Gwen Petersen’s, it can be survived. In fact, with Petersen’s help, it can be drop-dead hilarious. A much-loved cowgirl scribe in rare form, Petersen eases us through the rigors of country living, from raising chickens to shoveling manure to cooking Rocky Mountain oysters. You’d think midwifing a calf was no laughing matter--until Gwen steps in with her expert advice. She has wise counsel for sharing the yard with a gaggle of ill-tempered geese; step-by-step instructions for harvesting pig manure; and sound advice for staying cool through haying season and coping with the chaos of Christmas on the ranch or farm. For good measure, the book includes poems and recipes that will transport you to a country state of mind--whether you hail from the city’s busiest streets or the ranch’s quietest gravel roads. Equal parts handy how-to advice, rural humor, philosophy, and fond farm nostalgia, How to Shovel Manure and Other Life Lessons for the Country Woman is all good.
