Book Synopsis The Wrong Way to Save Your Life by : Megan Stielstra
Download or read book The Wrong Way to Save Your Life written by Megan Stielstra and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2017-08-01 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Powerful, personal observations on fear and courage—that touch on art, faith, academia, the internet, and more—from “a masterful essayist” (Roxane Gay, New York Times–bestselling author of Hunger). In this poignant and thoughtful collection of literary essays, Megan Stielstra tells stories to ward off fears both personal and universal as she grapples toward a better way to live. In “The Wrong Way to Save Your Life,” she answers the question of what has value in our lives—a question no longer rhetorical when the apartment above her family’s goes up in flames. “Here is My Heart” sheds light on Megan’s close relationship with her father, whose continued insistence on climbing mountains despite a series of heart attacks leads the author to dissect deer hearts in a poetic attempt to interrogate her own feelings about mortality. Whether she’s imagining the implications of open-carry laws on college campuses, recounting the story of going underwater on the mortgage of her first home, or revealing the unexpected pains and joys of marriage and motherhood, Stielstra’s work informs, impels, enlightens, and embraces us all. The result is something beautiful—this story, her courage, and, potentially, our own. “Sensitive and funny . . . She has a flair for nostalgia and for cultural criticism that is never pretentious.” —Publishers Weekly “When Megan Stielstra writes you can actually feel her beautiful heart pumping blood through every sentence.” —Samantha Irby, New York Times–bestselling author of We Are Never Meeting in Real Life “A life-enriching collection of essays.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review) “Reading this book is like listening to stories from a wise, compassionate, and irrepressibly funny friend.” —Esme Weijun Wang, award-winning author of The Border of Paradise
Download or read book On The Wrong Track written by Ivan Pavell and published by Author House. This book was released on 2013 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Various opinion polls, both in the USA and Great Britain have revealed that a large proportion of citizens believe that their countries are heading in the wrong direction. The book generally describes the trends in the governance of the West that have been gradually changing Individualistic free societies to Collectivist societies of subservient people. This progression has been carried out by the so called Political elite. In practical terms we can see that there has been a growth of governments and their bureaucracies, as well as an encroachment of government's influence on what used to be citizen's individual decision. This occurrence has driven the attempt to "manage" entire societies. Examples can be noted in relation to: management of the economy, social engineering, the use of media and education to impose collectivist ideologies, extensive surveillance of citizens, and the general aggrandizement of governments and their rulers. These have all lead to the transformation of free individuals into subjects of the State (that is ruling elite) Alongside this transformation, the governments in the West are currently living beyond their means and are accruing enormous debts. The book compares the present Statism of the West with the Soviet Socialism, and how they are gradually drawing closer.

Book excerpt: Sales Psychology 101: Paradaptive Intelligence The Grand Unifying theory of Adaptation, Consumer Behavior and Sales introduces the Paradaptive Intelligence model to the business world by examining the most basic of activities - a transaction. Transactions require two things: the something and a person. This revolutionary theory examines, explains, and organizes all human decisions and behaviors by the emotions that control them. Through this model you will learn that emotions are the engine of adaptation and are incredibly precise instruments - they occur in a precise order and each must be satisfied in a unique and specific way. This same process also controls the formation of relationships. Users of the Paradaptive Intelligence model will be able to predict the DNA encoded behaviors of prospects with 100% accuracy across 98% of the earth's population. This makes Sales Psychology 101 the most important book written on business in the last 200 years....and the next 500.

By organising terms this way, slang terms that share a common key word can be classified together for easy reference. For example, under the key word 'Chip,' the following terms are alphabetically listed: bargaining chip, blue chip, cash in one's chips, chip in, chip off the old block, chip on one's shoulder, in the chips, let the chips fall where they may, and when the chips are down. Slang terms with more than one key word are also cross-referenced, and sample sentences lend meaning to the slang terms by showing their applications in writing and in conversation.

The book explains how the writer tested and used the law of attraction to change his own life in a truly amazing way and also how he used what he refers to as life tools (such as meditation, positive thinking, and mindfulness) to help change his life and live a happier, joyful, and more authentic life. Book Synopsis Why You Will Marry the Wrong Person by : The School of Life
Download or read book Why You Will Marry the Wrong Person written by The School of Life and published by School of Life Press. This book was released on 2017-04-27 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of essays extended from The New York Times' most-read article of 2016. Anyone we might marry could, of course, be a little bit wrong for us. We don’t expect bliss every day. The fault isn’t entirely our own; it has to do with the devilish truth that anyone we’re liable to meet is going to be rather wrong, in some fascinating way or another, because this is simply what all humans happen to be – including, sadly, ourselves. This collection of essays proposes that we don’t need perfection to be happy. So long as we enter our relationships in the right spirit, we have every chance of coping well enough with, and even delighting in, the inevitable and distinctive wrongness that lies in ourselves and our beloveds.
Book Synopsis Life through God’s Word by : Christopher J. H. Wright
Download or read book Life through God’s Word written by Christopher J. H. Wright and published by Langham Preaching Resources. This book was released on 2020-10-31 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you have ever been tempted to disregard Psalm 119 under an assumption that it is some dry and dusty psalm about Old Testament law, you are certainly not alone. However, in this in-depth study of the longest chapter in Scripture, Chris Wright reminds us that it is first and foremost a prayer overflowing from a deeply intimate relationship with God. It is an unfolding conversation between the psalmist’s rawest emotions and God’s word, his source of comfort, delight, guidance, grace and life-giving encouragement. As a travelling companion for our own journeys, Psalm 119 serves as a powerful reminder of how Scripture speaks to our deepest desires and our greatest needs, and how, if it is to do its work in us, we must know and love the Scripture for ourselves. Rather than approaching the text linearly, Wright explores five recurring themes within the psalm, drawing forth deeply personal and powerful applications. This thematic approach is ideal for pastors wrestling with how to preach Psalm 119 in its entirety, as well as for personal and small group study. Discussion and reflection questions are included. This is an excellent resource for anyone desiring to foster a closer relationship with God through Scripture.

Book excerpt: The book is called Life in the Wrong Lane because thats where journalists live: in the one lane heading toward a catastrophe. Everyone whos normal is in the other lane, any other lane, going the other way. Theyre getting out. Although Dobbss travels, first for ABC News and now for HDNet Television, have taken him to many troubled corners of the country and the world, Life in the Wrong Lane isnt a travel guide about exotic places or a contemporary history of the events he covered. Rather, its about all the funny, bizarre, scary, stupid, dangerous, distasteful, unwise, and unbelievable things that journalists experience just getting to the point of reporting a story, experiences that possibly are even more interesting than the stories being covered, but which never become part of the stories they finally report to their audiences.

It's almost impossible to borrow each other's minds. We are unique in every attribute. I decided to write this book because the delicate thing is to understand and judge someone's mind as understanding derives from the inner universe of our mind. Everyone wants to live and face situations which are easy for the mind, but that's an easy attraction in life. We can't control the external universe but the inner universe to build a cheerful and successful soul for us. To control our mind is a tough and easy job at the same time.
