Book Synopsis Care Without Coverage by : Institute of Medicine
Download or read book Care Without Coverage written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2002-06-20 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Americans believe that people who lack health insurance somehow get the care they really need. Care Without Coverage examines the real consequences for adults who lack health insurance. The study presents findings in the areas of prevention and screening, cancer, chronic illness, hospital-based care, and general health status. The committee looked at the consequences of being uninsured for people suffering from cancer, diabetes, HIV infection and AIDS, heart and kidney disease, mental illness, traumatic injuries, and heart attacks. It focused on the roughly 30 million-one in seven-working-age Americans without health insurance. This group does not include the population over 65 that is covered by Medicare or the nearly 10 million children who are uninsured in this country. The main findings of the report are that working-age Americans without health insurance are more likely to receive too little medical care and receive it too late; be sicker and die sooner; and receive poorer care when they are in the hospital, even for acute situations like a motor vehicle crash.

Book Synopsis Does Insurance Market Activity Promote Economic Growth? by : Marco Arena
Download or read book Does Insurance Market Activity Promote Economic Growth? written by Marco Arena and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2006 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Insurance market activity, both as a financial intermediary and a provider of risk transfer and indemnification, may contribute to economic growth by allowing different risks to be managed more efficiently and by mobilizing domestic savings. During the past decade, there has been faster growth in insurance market activity, particularly in emerging markets given the process of liberalization and financial integration, which raises questions about its impact on economic growth. The author tests whether there is a causal relationship between insurance market activity (life and nonlife insurance) and economic growth. Using the generalized method of moments for dynamic models of panel data for 56 countries and for the 1976-2004 period, he finds robust evidence of a causal relationship between insurance market activity and economic growth. Both life and nonlife insurance have a positive and significant causal effect on economic growth. High-income countries drive the results in the case of life insurance. On the other hand, both high-income and developing countries drive the results in the case of nonlife insurance.

This book was released on 2020-11-10 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2020 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: A, , course: Minor Research, language: English, abstract: This study is necessary to understand the position of insurance sector in Latur district and perception of the general public towards insurance industry and its products as compared to other parts of Maharashtra. People residing in rural and urban area; view differently for the same service that has been provided by the insurance company. This difference of thinking or attitude is due to their income level, standard of living, education, knowledge about industry etc. People irrespective of living in any area can have any type of insurance products or service, but generally rural people look towards insurance as investment and urban as protection or safeguard against loss to life or property. So the rural people believe in such product which will give them lump sum amount at the maturity of the policy. But the urban people believe that insurance should protect them or their family after any bad or unfortunate incident happens with them. It means that the Ϯςͮ Minor Research Project / Dr. B. T. Chavan urban people use to take such insurance policies which will provide huge lump sum amount after the loss to life to the remaining family members. Latur district is situated in the south eastern part of Marathwada region of Maharashtra state. Insurance generally operates on the premise of uncertain future and as such its promotion and development depends mostly on the ability of insurers in assessing the real uncertainties of life of the insured. Insurance provides payment for unexpected losses to individual’s family and business firms, allowing their activities to continue smoothly despite unfavorable and unfortunate events. An insurer’s reputation is evaluated mainly on his ability to fulfill his promise when the insured needs it. The life insurance industry also plays an important role in the mobilization of household and corporate savings and promoting investment activity. This industry provides for efficient and productive allocation of capital resources, thus facilitates growth and development of an economy. The life insurance industry in India, with LIC and 23 private sector players, has been playing a major role in performing some insurance functions of Society.
Book Synopsis Data Construction and Data Analysis for Survey Research by : Raymond Kent
Download or read book Data Construction and Data Analysis for Survey Research written by Raymond Kent and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-05-19 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the needs of business, marketing and social science students, this book provides an accessible and easy-to-follow guide to survey data analysis. The book avoids the more usual statistics-driven perspective. Rather, it provides an intuitive feel for handling survey data by emphasising that data analysis is more about understanding the research objectives, what kinds of data have been collected, how quantitative data were generated by the process of measurement, how to create a data matrix and how to transform raw data before thinking about appropriate statistical calculations. The author begins by considering what data are, the different kinds of data that surveys generate, and the tripartite format of all quantitative data. The processes of measurement and the errors that may arise are carefully explained. Coverage of the creation and analysis of a data matrix using SPSS is then provided. The author then reviews what kinds of statistical procedure are required for what kinds of data and for what purposes. The book concludes by giving a review of strategies for coping with all the kinds of practical problems that arise in survey research. Reader-friendly throughout, Data Analysis: A Guide to Market and Social Research provides numerous worked examples, end-of-chapter questions and points for further discussion to help reinforce concepts learnt. A data diskette containing the worked examples in SPSS is also provided in the back of the book.
