Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER #1 INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER What does everyone in the modern world need to know? Renowned psychologist Jordan B. Peterson's answer to this most difficult of questions uniquely combines the hard-won truths of ancient tradition with the stunning revelations of cutting-edge scientific research. Humorous, surprising and informative, Dr. Peterson tells us why skateboarding boys and girls must be left alone, what terrible fate awaits those who criticize too easily, and why you should always pet a cat when you meet one on the street. What does the nervous system of the lowly lobster have to tell us about standing up straight (with our shoulders back) and about success in life? Why did ancient Egyptians worship the capacity to pay careful attention as the highest of gods? What dreadful paths do people tread when they become resentful, arrogant and vengeful? Dr. Peterson journeys broadly, discussing discipline, freedom, adventure and responsibility, distilling the world's wisdom into 12 practical and profound rules for life. 12 Rules for Life shatters the modern commonplaces of science, faith and human nature, while transforming and ennobling the mind and spirit of its readers.

Book excerpt: In this new edition of his acclaimed autobiography — long out of print and rare until now — Alan Watts tracks his spiritual and philosophical evolution. A child of religious conservatives in rural England, he went on to become a freewheeling spiritual teacher who challenged Westerners to defy convention and think for themselves. Watts's portrait of himself shows that he was a philosophical renegade from early on in his intellectual life. Self-taught in many areas, he came to Buddhism through the teachings of Christmas Humphreys and D. T. Suzuki. Told in a nonlinear style, In My Own Way combines Watts's brand of unconventional philosophy with wry observations on Western culture and often hilarious accounts of gurus, celebrities, and psychedelic drug experiences. A charming foreword by Watts's father sets the tone of this warm, funny, and beautifully written story. Watts encouraged readers to “follow your own weird” — something he always did himself, as this remarkable account of his life shows.

Despite having no formal qualifications or previous experience in the field, she found herself working in palliative care. During the time she spent tending to those who were dying, Bronnie's life was transformed. Later, she wrote an Internet blog post, outlining the most common regrets that the people she had cared for had expressed. The post gained so much momentum that it was viewed by more than three million readers worldwide in its first year. At the request of many, Bronnie subsequently wrote a book, The Top Five Regrets of the Dying, to share her story. Bronnie has had a colourful and diverse life. By applying the lessons of those nearing their death to her own life, she developed an understanding that it is possible for everyone, if we make the right choices, to die with peace of mind. In this revised edition of the best-selling memoir that has been read by over a million people worldwide, with translations in 29 languages, Bronnie expresses how significant these regrets are and how we can positively address these issues while we still have the time. Ross Cribb sets out to provide an alternative vocabulary with which to describe significant events, human nature and spirituality, with the goal to empower individuals to have happier and more meaningful lives. His highly readable combination of Zen, philosophy, psychology and science makes a compelling case for his view of spirituality. Explaining that we often refer to different parts of ourselves as independent, he takes this a step further by invoking the New Age concept of Energy Bodies (specifically the Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual Bodies). With these he explains Enlightenment, Being in the Moment and Energy Healing—an effective method for releasing blockages that take us out of the moment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Foundations of the Composite Culture in India, the focus of the author is the process of establishment of Hindu-Muslim unity as a result of historical, social and cultural factors over a period of ten centuries. Traversing this era, he reveals how the Muslim rulers contributed to such harmony and how the two cultures exchanged and accepted each other's tenets to enrich and formulate a composite Indian culture. To explore the foundations on which the complex culture of India rests, the author examines the contribution of Sufism which inherently connotes syncretism and tolerance, as well as the simultaneous rise of the Bhakti movement in medieval India. Book excerpt: Will you believe me if I told you I died and I made my memory without the thought of the person I would find? Hello, everyone. My name is Castello Tyroy Gilbert. Some pronounce it as Costello, but it’s still the same to me. My family prefers to call me Kevin since it sounds like heaven. I was the first boy in my family that realized I had enemies. I stated this once before in a previous book. My journey from Jamaica only allowed me to adapt to the same culture, to have each step being forgiven like falling out of a tree that grew to the height of thirteen feet. I was only three and a half when I bled. Watch the news. I even think they had my head in a tornado of amusement. At that time, I was only imagining the distance for it to be a testimony of my life, trying to break away from each tournament of a boy’s tormented mind. Writing and solving problems, a monkey had my mind. It was something I always wanted to do. It was one of my favorite things, having been created in school. Out of that same culture, I found structure-like circuits hardwiring itself to be led. Without the ability to pronounce itself or the abilities of speech, my fingertips speaks. Identifying with so many things, it appears as a sociopath, coming to find my mind entwined with the things they needed to achieve. As a little boy, I was very inquisitive about nature, creation, education, and the teachers found in this novel. I won’t lie to you. It was a very self-proclaimed book about things that have happened and things that had been forgotten, which allowed me to understand my own life and others who rectify themselves from being abused.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is about facing your fears. It is about believing in yourself. It is about following those 'I cannot explain' feelings. It is about chasing your dreams and it is about daring, attempting and trying. It is about learning from failures and from mistakes. It is about acceptance and forgiveness. It is about putting yourself out there. It is about listening to your inner voice and it is about listening to everyone, being opened and following your heart. It is about learning new things and improving continuously. It is about the journey and not the arriving. It is about life and it is about those 'coincidences' those 'mmm, that's a sign!'. It is about the awe of wild things, the whispers in the trees, the songs of birds, the 'silence' in the mountains, the calling in the waves, and about the sound of your steps in magical forests. It is about what you cannot explain, but you feel when you look at the starry sky. It is about our path until this moment. It is about how life works when you look back at your life. It is about perspective. It is about faith and it is about hope, strength, gratitude, willingness and putting in the work. It is about decisions, choices and interpretations. It is about the most precious currency, time. It is about the beauty of discovering for yourself, remaining curious and inquisitive. It is about work, hard work and focused work. It is about passion, discipline, commitment, habits and dedication. It is about adjusting along the way, it is about taking care of yourself, body, mind, heart and soul, and it is about helping others with what you can. It is about staying on your path. It is about letting go, trusting and patience. It is about health, healthy habits and healthy lifestyles. It is about overcoming and the power of one moment, one day. It is about the power of words and it is about the power of our imagination and creativity. It is about asking yourself, and life what's your purpose. It is about wondering and wandering whilst chasing that 'what if'. It is about being lost and it is about the purpose in striving. It is about people, all of us, what do we really want, and imagining what we can do and accomplish when we work together. It is about transparency and intentions. I feel like when we're going through a kind of inquiry like this will actually lead us to a better understanding of ourselves, and in this way we can make better decisions. For ourselves, for the ones we love, for the ones around us. It is like the gift we'll give back to life itself for the present of being here. At the least, for me, it is a cause living for it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a condensed body of thought, and each paragraph holds body of thought/idea that involved some meditation. Richard, through his work, shows he is a rare breed, an unorthodox thinker who has ruffled the self-satisfied colonial and post-colonial establishment that once held his thoughts captive. The text is a tour de force setting the records straight with historicizing analysis about one of the major issues that purport to define who we are and continue to do so now, illuminating the biggest, most important challenge we face in our time. The text is a magisterial work with impeccable and intelligible argued positions and a benchmark for nation-building. It defends with lapidary certitude the proposition that nation-building is not something that is given to someone by another; rather, it is something that can only be acquired by one's self through self-discovery. --Victor Ikeji
