Born in Illinois, the son of a Presbyterian minister. He came to believe that God was calling him to India where he arrived in 1892 to preach in the Punjab region. His mission at first gained few converts and endured persecution. So he began to pray very intensely. From 1899 he began to spend entire nights in prayer to God. He formed the Punjab Prayer Union, the members of which set aside half an hour a day to pray for spiritual revival. In 1908 he told the conference his dream that there would be one conversion a day, and a year later over 400 more converts had been made. He came to be called "Praying Hyde" for his passionate prayers to reach lost souls. Hyde's last words were "Shout the victory of Jesus Christ!"

Book excerpt: This volume introduces researchers to the leaders, ideas, and institutions of the Keswick Movement, a strand of holiness teaching that was embraced by many evangelicals who came from the more Calvinistic wing of Protestantism, especially Anglicans, Baptists, Congregationalists, and Presbyterians. The Keswick Movement is the most difficult of the three main holiness traditions to delineate. Unlike the Wesleyan Holiness and Holiness Pentecostal traditions, the Keswick Movement has not gone through a definitive period of careful theological refining and institutional boundary setting.

We hear John speaking the language of heaven to the eager men and women of India. Paramount in the biography is the power of prayer in the life of this great missionary. Courageously Hyde placed his petitions before God and inspired others to do the same. In the autumn of his life this consecrated missionary to India saw the gleaming harvest of his prayers—a harvest of souls saved by the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ. At last ‘the man who never slept’ went to be with his Saviour. But today in the Punjab, under the shadow of the Himalayas, still hovers the spirit of Praying Hyde - ‘the apostle of prayer.’ Do you desire a richer prayer life — deeper communion with God — more eloquent and soul-stirring speech with the Almighty? A thoughtful reading of this biography of Praying Hyde will prove helpful to you as you seek to develop that supreme skill of the Christian life - prayer.

This book was released on 2021-07-01 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revival is bringing something that is dead back to life. Much of today’s Church needs reviving. When God comes in an unusual way, releasing His presence and power over and above what a church normally experiences, we call it a visitation of God. Every visitation of God should become a habitation of God and become a move of God, going beyond that local church into the community, city, and nation. The move of God results in evangelization, missions, and the fulfilling of the Great Commission. Starting in the book of Acts and down through the centuries, there have been numerous visitations and moves of God. We look at Church history. Understanding history helps us correctly interpret the present and prepare for the future. We draw inspiration, insight, and lessons from what God has done in the past, by reviewing stories, and asking relevant questions: What can we learn from Church history about revivals, visitations, and moves of God? What does it take for a visitation of God to become a move of God? What are signs of a genuine visitation of God? How do we steward a revival, a visitation, and a move of God? The “latter rain” falls just before harvest. “Therefore, be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand” (James 5:7-8). In biblical context, the early rains were showers that usually came during October-November and prepared the ground for the seed. The latter rain fell during March-April and was necessary for the ripening of the crops before harvest. If we believe God is preparing for a mighty endtime outpouring, a great visitation, and ingathering of harvest before His return, then we must get ourselves and our congregations ready for the latter rain of the Holy Spirit. Book excerpt: Claude Wheeler is a young man who was born after the American frontier has vanished. The son of a successful farmer and an intensely pious mother, Wheeler is guaranteed a comfortable livelihood. Nevertheless, Wheeler views himself as a victim of his father's success and his own inexplicable malaise. Thus, devoid of parental and spousal love, Wheeler finds a new purpose to his life in France, a faraway country that only existed for him in maps before the First World War. Will Wheeler ever succeed in his new goal? The novel is inspired from real-life events and also won the Pulitzer Prize in 1923.
