Book Synopsis User Surveys in College Libraries by : Doreen Kopycinski
Download or read book User Surveys in College Libraries written by Doreen Kopycinski and published by Assoc of Cllge & Rsrch Libr. This book was released on 2007 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of the CLIP Note "User Surveys in College Libraries" in 1995 proved to be a popular publication, as libraries strive to improve their services to their user communities by attempting to discover their needs and expectations. In the past ten years, the use of surveys in libraries has evolved with the development of online tools and services, so it was deemed appropriate to provide a second edition of this publication. Using the CLIP Notes guidelines, the compilers developed a survey based on that found in the 1995 User Surveys in College Libraries to allow for an historical comparison. A first draft of the survey was tested on a sample group, and the survey was edited based on feedback. The compilers used the online tool SurveyMonkey.com to manage the survey and, in May 2006, invited librarians representing 251 libraries to respond, garnering a response rate of 53 per cent.
Book Synopsis Assessment of Library Collections in a Consortial Environment by : George Lupone
Download or read book Assessment of Library Collections in a Consortial Environment written by George Lupone and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-09-13 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The consortial environment provides librarians with new ways to manage collections at their home institutions. Academic libraries in Ohio have been participating in OhioLINK since 1988, and the consortium has had an effect on shaping local collections for more than one decade. While each institution pursues its own collection management strategy, the shared resources and delivery system provided through OhioLINK influence local collections profoundly. What has been the effect? This work is a collection of articles assessing local collections within a consortial environment. The authors assess collections from their own vantage points, considering such diverse factors as cost, regional depositories, book reviews, and faculty input. The influence of consortial ties in shaping local collections is a common thread throughout the work. This book was published as a special issue of Collection Management.

Book Synopsis The Architecture of Rome by : Ulrich Fürst
Download or read book The Architecture of Rome written by Ulrich Fürst and published by Edition Axel Menges. This book was released on 1998 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Architects and artists have always acknowledged over the centuries that Rome is rightly called the 'eternal city'. Rome is eternal above all because it was always young, always 'in its prime'. Here the buildings that defined the West appeared over more than 2000 years, here the history of European architecture was written. The foundations were laid even in ancient Roman times, when the first attempts were made to design interiors and thus make space open to experience as something physical. And at that time the Roman architects also started to develop building types that are still valid today, thus creating the cornerstone of later Western architecture. In it Rome's primacy remained unbroken -- whether it was with old St Peter's as the first medieval basilica or new St. Peter's as the building in which Bramante and Michelangelo developed the High Renaissance, or with works by Bernini and Borromini whose rich and lucid spatial forms were to shape Baroque as far as Vienna, Bohemia and Lower Franconia, and also with Modern buildings, of which there are many unexpected pearls to be found in Rome. All this is comprehensible only if it is presented historically, i. e. in chronological sequence, and so the guide has not been arranged topographically as usual but chronologically. This means that one is not led in random sequence from a Baroque building to an ancient or a modern one, but the historical development is followed successively. Every epoch is preceded by an introduction that identifies its key features. This produces a continuous, lavishly illustrated history of the architecture of Rome -- and thus at the same time of the whole of the West. Practical handling is guaranteed by an alphabetical index and detailed maps, whose information does not just immediately illustrate the historical picture, but also makes it possible to choose a personal route through history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in information technology, networked systems, and especially the advent of the Web have driven a rapid and vast change in academic libraries. Almost every aspect of library work has been dramatically impacted by the Web which enabled greatly enhanced remote access to collections and services and has prompted innovations such as virtual reference, e-book and e-journal collection development, and digitized archives. Academic Library Research: Perspectives and Current Trends updates traditional topics that have undergone exceptional, and in some cases, unexpected change since 1990 as well as reaching into new areas that have developed. It combines theoretical scholarship as well as research designed to inform practice, including case studies and user surveys.
