Book excerpt: This unique collection of 10 interesting, accessible Hispanic legends from Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador, Spain, Puerto Rico, Argentina/Paraguay, and the United States is designed to enrich readers' immersion into Spanish and Hispanic culture on multiple levels. Its contextual approach to the legends, reading process and strategies, and comprehension and extension activities 1) help readers grow both in language skills and general communication and problem-solving skills; and 2) help them identify cultural universals and culturally unique values and to compare and connect their own cultural reality to the legends. Accompanying taped, "told" versions of the legends enables readers to hear the musicality and drama of the stories. Features interesting, accessible readings with universal themes--e.g., questions of money, power, honor, and revenge; fidelity and courage; star-crossed lovers; good and evil; friendship and good will; the futility of the search for imagined treasure. For anyone interested in the Spanish language or Hispanic literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The meaning of dreams is one of the most fascinating topics of discussion and controversy since ancient times. The questions, Where do dreams come from? and How do dreams originate?, have had multiple answers in different times. For ancient civilizations, dreams were a form of communication with the gods. Some argue that they lack meaning, and for others, dreams are a reflection of our deepest desires, influence our behaviorthey are sources of inspiration and help us to solve problems. This book provides a global vision of dreams, beginning with the interpretation of ancient civilizations. Chapters dedicated to dreams in painting, in cinematography and, fundamentally, in literature. One chapter is devoted to the interpretation of dreams according to Freud and another to creativity through dreams that inspired inventions, novels, poetry, and musical pieces. The study of dreams by the neurosciences is also discussed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Its first focus is on the both subcontinental and transcontinental Indies, on the oxymoronic figure of East West India and on the stirring 'relations through words' in Luso-Afro-Indian, Anglo-Indian, and Indo-European areas. The second focus is on the cross-cultural configuration of East and West shaped by some striking Sino-European and Sino-American events in early modern and modern times. A third issue concerns the glocal and globoglot 'people of paper' in a contemporary Californian town, and, lastly, the all-embracing, all-devouring ouroboros and other multi-lingual ophidians.
