Rachel McDaniel is the heir to a small but mighty witch's coven in the middle of the small New England town. The descendent of several powerful witches, she has been tasked with something so difficult, it has killed every other woman who has attempted it before: defeat the fearsome Leviathan that comes through the portal set to open Samhain night. She fears her ability to defeat the beast as well, struggling over every line of the incantation and wondering if she has the strength to do what is needed to save not only herself but potentially the whole of the world. If the Leviathan is allowed to escape the confines of the coven's restraints. Not even the distractions of town and the annoying presence of her ex-boyfriend, a cop who has it out for her coven, is enough to calm her nerves. It isn't until she learns a terrible secret that Rachel finds something even more dangerous than the Leviathan. It will take more than a little magic and courage to defeat that monster and the other ones lurking outside. She must enlist the aid of her ex and that of the Spirits beyond the realm of the living to help, and learn to discern who her true enemies are.

Book excerpt: When I gaze skyward, I can almost see her there, behind the clouds, gazing down, as she said she would - watching. I can almost make out her aqua-marine eyes, those perfect eyelids, sculpted lashes. I was never an expert on spirits or ghosts or haunts. I had always thought them fanciful figments of an imagination gone wild. Though I had heard they could be annoying, even bothersome to those unfortunates who strayed too close, who opened their minds too wide and let them in. Still, I was, and always would've been, an unbeliever. What I didn't know was they could be so much more than aggravating poltergeists bumping in the night. They could be grateful, caring, even convey love when compelled, had enough strength. I was amazed. It was wondrous. Then, he brought the anger and the malice in his heart. He brought destruction and darkness, intent on killing us all. That was when She changed. That was when She rose up. She was ruthless. She took him. She keeps what she takes...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Leviathan Factor tells the incredible story of how Satan, created as Lucifer the morning star, self-transformed into Leviathan, God's serpentine arch foe. When he tried to achieve immortality by tweaking creation's lowest-level laws (a sophisticated computer/automaton) he created death instead. As the serpent he reappeared in the Genesis tree of good and evil, where he seduced humans to attempt immortality apart from covenant with God. Leviathan is responsible for the false belief that we each have an inner divine spark which, when reconnected to our ego, awakens our true inherent divinity. Unfortunately he and his demonic spirits also impact our minds, bodies, and environment as psi. A few of the many markers of these demonic psi are levitation, telepathy, telekinesis, deja vu, emotional oppressions, poltergeist activities, past lives' "memories," voices and visions, near death and out-of-body experiences, and trance channeling. Many of these psi phenomena are co-factors in mind disorders such as schizophrenia or epilepsy. Manifestations in Christian circles include false tongues and "holy" laughter. The Leviathan Factor is not a healing how-to. It is the first book to place demonic evil into the context of creation's basic structures and laws.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corruption and ineffectiveness are often expected of public servants in developing countries. However, some groups within these states are distinctly more effective and public oriented than the rest. Why? Patchwork Leviathan explains how a few spectacularly effective state organizations manage to thrive amid general institutional weakness and succeed against impressive odds. Drawing on the Hobbesian image of the state as Leviathan, Erin Metz McDonnell argues that many seemingly weak states actually have a wide range of administrative capacities. Such states are in fact patchworks sewn loosely together from scarce resources into the semblance of unity. McDonnell demonstrates that when the human, cognitive, and material resources of bureaucracy are rare, it is critically important how they are distributed. Too often, scarce bureaucratic resources are scattered throughout the state, yielding little effect. McDonnell reveals how a sufficient concentration of resources clustered within particular pockets of a state can be transformative, enabling distinctively effective organizations to emerge from a sea of ineffectiveness. Patchwork Leviathan offers a comprehensive analysis of successful statecraft in institutionally challenging environments, drawing on cases from contemporary Ghana and Nigeria, mid-twentieth-century Kenya and Brazil, and China in the early twentieth century. Based on nearly two years of pioneering fieldwork in West Africa, this incisive book explains how these highly effective pockets differ from the Western bureaucracies on which so much state and organizational theory is based, providing a fresh answer to why well-funded global capacity-building reforms fail—and how they can do better.

Book excerpt: The mythical monster that Job saw in the sea, is the same beast that Daniel and John the Revelator saw in their visions. From the time of Job, the Monster in the sea continues to mutate in order to modify and adjust itself, to satisfy the desires of what the people's proud hearts want. Leviathan is not a demonic spirit of pride, but a world system that rule as king over the children of pride. It exists 'everywhere but nowhere observable' to serve the lusts and carnal desires of a morally-deprived people, whom have anchored their sinking ships in the waters of a global system, ruled by false religion, pop-culture and democracy. However, its service and business among the people comes at a great cost. In the end, all who've made allegiance to it will pay a very hefty price.

Book excerpt: The bible is indeed a world of the strange and mysterious when it comes to the variety of creatures that are presented in its texts. These often times serve as images of good versus evil, or order versus chaos. Flat and narrowly myopic literal readings of the bible that at times lacks for imagination and creative insight to the bible’s occasional and amazingly metaphorical maze fall far short of what is needed to appreciate the full depth of the biblical world’s imagery. Therefore this work explores the meaning of the bible’s mysterious creatures with an emphasis on three creatures that all appear in the book of the prophet Isaiah: Lucifer (Isa 14:12), Leviathan (Isa 27:1), and Lilith (Isa 34:14). These mysterious creatures of the bible live on and can both inspire and cause fear. It is a marvelous mixed world of biblical metaphor and realism to be found in the likes of Lucifer, Leviathan, Lilith and the rest of the mysterious creatures that make a biblical appearance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From two legal luminaries, a highly original framework for restoring confidence in a government bureaucracy increasingly derided as “the deep state.” Is the modern administrative state illegitimate? Unconstitutional? Unaccountable? Dangerous? Intolerable? American public law has long been riven by a persistent, serious conflict, a kind of low-grade cold war, over these questions. Cass Sunstein and Adrian Vermeule argue that the administrative state can be redeemed, as long as public officials are constrained by what they call the morality of administrative law. Law and Leviathan elaborates a number of principles that underlie this moral regime. Officials who respect that morality never fail to make rules in the first place. They ensure transparency, so that people are made aware of the rules with which they must comply. They never abuse retroactivity, so that people can rely on current rules, which are not under constant threat of change. They make rules that are understandable and avoid issuing rules that contradict each other. These principles may seem simple, but they have a great deal of power. Already, without explicit enunciation, they limit the activities of administrative agencies every day. But we can aspire for better. In more robust form, these principles could address many of the concerns that have critics of the administrative state mourning what they see as the demise of the rule of law. The bureaucratic Leviathan may be an inescapable reality of complex modern democracies, but Sunstein and Vermeule show how we can at last make peace between those who accept its necessity and those who yearn for its downfall.
