Book Synopsis Neurodevelopmental Disabilities by : Dilip R. Patel
Download or read book Neurodevelopmental Disabilities written by Dilip R. Patel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-04-07 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly more and more children with developmental disabilities survive into adulthood. Pediatricians and other clinicians are called upon to care for an increasing number of children with developmental disabilities in their practice and thus there is a need for a practical guide specifically written for paediatricians and primary care clinicians that addresses major concepts of neurodevelopmental pediatrics. In the United States, the specialty training leading to a conjoint board certification by the American Board of Pediatrics and American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, requires a total of 6 years of training (2 years of pediatrics, 1 year of neurology, 18 months of child neurology, 18 months of neurodevelopmental disabilities). As of December 2006, in the US, there were 241 pediatricians and 55 child neurologists certified in the subspecialty of Neurodevelopmental Disabilities. Thus most of the children with developmental disabilities are seen by pediatricians and therefore it is important for these pediatricians to be well informed of common issues in the field. The 60,000 or so pediatricians in the United States (and hundreds more in other countries) are the main target audience for a practical book on neurodevelopmental pediatrics.
Book Synopsis PROMOTION DE LA SANTE ET AUTONOMISATION DANS LE CONTEXTE AFRICAIN by : David HouŽto
Download or read book PROMOTION DE LA SANTE ET AUTONOMISATION DANS LE CONTEXTE AFRICAIN written by David HouŽto and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-02-26 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Examination of the Child with Minor Neurological Dysfunction by : Mijna Hadders-Algra
Download or read book Examination of the Child with Minor Neurological Dysfunction written by Mijna Hadders-Algra and published by Mac Keith Press. This book was released on 2010-11-15 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This highly practical book brings the examination of minor neurological dysfunction developed by Bert Touwen and his colleagues in Groningen right up to date, which is timely in view of the increasing interest in and use of this approach. The approach is a detailed and extensive neurological examination with the aim of detecting a possible neurobiological basis for learning, behavioural and motor coordination problems in a child and thus informing decision-making and management. It provides a refined, sensitive and age-appropriate technique, designed to take into account the developmental aspects of the child’s rapidly changing nervous system. This third edition of Bert Touwen’s classic handbook has been updated by Mijna Hadders-Algra to reflect contemporary clinical practice. A new chapter assesses the reliability and validity of the methodology, and the book now includes norms for comparison, as well as practical management guidelines based on current clinical practice. Entirely new photographs and diagrams illustrate the assessment techniques clearly. The accompanying CD-ROM contains videos illustrating typical and atypical performance and also provides an electronic assessment form. Readership Paediatric neurologists, physicians working in neuropaediatrics, developmental paediatrics, child and adolescent psychiatry, and paediatric rehabilitation.

Book Synopsis Time in the Philosophy of Gabriel Marcel by : Helen Tattam
Download or read book Time in the Philosophy of Gabriel Marcel written by Helen Tattam and published by MHRA. This book was released on 2013 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gabriel Marcel (1889-1973) stands outside the traditional canon of twentieth-century French philosophers. Where he is not simply forgotten or overlooked, he is dismissed as a 'relentlessly unsystematic' thinker, or, following Jean-Paul Sartre's lead, labelled a 'Christian existentialist' - a label that avoids consideration of Marcel's work on its own terms. How is one to appreciate Marcel's contribution, especially when his oeuvre appears to be at odds with philosophical convention? Helen Tattam proposes a range of readings as opposed to one single interpretation, a series of departures or explorations that bring his work into contact with critical partners such as Henri Bergson, Paul Ricoeur and Emmanuel Lévinas, and offer insights into a host of twentieth-century philosophical shifts concerning time, the subject, the other, ethics, and religion. Helen Tattam's ambitious study is an impressively lucid account of Marcel's engagement with the problem of time and lived experience, and is her first monograph since the award of her doctorate from the University of Nottingham.
Book Synopsis Mental Health and Pain by : Serge Marchand
Download or read book Mental Health and Pain written by Serge Marchand and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-03 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book proposes a didactic approach to the different aspects of pain in mental health. The various chapters cover the myths, neurophysiology, perception, measurement and management of pain in mental health. The most common problems, including mood disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety, somatoform disorders and pervasive developmental disorders, are covered. Each chapter addresses the problem of pain by putting an emphasis on the characteristics of different populations of patients suffering from mental illness. The book helps specialists working in different areas of mental health to appreciate the importance of pain problems in mental health and also offers avenues for the measurement and treatment of pain in these patients. Mental health and pain are complex issues. They also share certain mutually influential neurophysiological mechanisms, which makes it even more difficult to identify their specific individual characteristics. This duality between the somatic and psychic components can become a pitfall for the specialist in mental health since it can be difficult to disentangle the evolution of a painful condition from the mental illness.

Book Synopsis Neuroimaging and Memory by : Jonathan K. Foster
Download or read book Neuroimaging and Memory written by Jonathan K. Foster and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collection of papers presented covers a range of stimulating memory-related topics, ranging from a study of autobiographical memory, working memory, an investigation into "medial temporal lobe" versus "diencephalic" amnesia (combined with an evaluation of different forms of image analysis), neuroimaging and "psychogenic amnesia", an empirical review paper, a study of incidental retrieval in the context of encoding, a critique of contemporary neuroimaging research (with specific reference to the anatomical lesion literature), a neuroimaging study of memory using event-related functional neuroimaging, a paper concerned with the interpretation and meaning of psychological data obtained from contemporary neuroimaging methodologies, to a submission which questions the view that anatomically "bigger" structures necessarily subserve memory "better". All the contributors to this special edition acknowledge the the intrinsically highly dynamic nature of this field. However, taken together, these papers provide an overview of where neuroimaging data currently place us, with respect to the issue of the neural mediation of memory, and concerning our theorizing about the cognitive architecture of memory processes. Such a review is important and timely: this research perspective, unavailable until just few years go, has already made a considerable contribution to our level of understanding, and, if harnessed appropriately, has considerably more to offer in the future.
