Book Synopsis Resource and Environmental Management by : Bruce Mitchell
Download or read book Resource and Environmental Management written by Bruce Mitchell and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to optimally manage the environment and natural resources, it is vitally important to recognize that there is much more to consider than just the environment itself and the natural resources it provides. A key consideration is also the interrelationship between natural ecosystems and human involvement and behavior. This interaction is where the field of environmental resource management comes into play: the complex ecological and sociological systems of the natural world intertwined. The purpose of this book is to consider such matters, and to help readers develop their own capacities as environmental managers and stewards. Bruce Mitchell's textbook Resource and Environmental Management served as the gold standard for many environmental science courses when the first edition published in 1997. Now, twenty years later, an updated third edition allows for the inclusion of recent developments. The book covers the basic theories and concepts of environmental resource management, and guides students to be able to apply those concepts to practical situations. By covering basic theories and concepts, and by using case studies to show how these have been applied, Bruce Mitchell's new edition seeks to ensure that students have competence in both aspects. The text enhances the reader's capacity to conduct practice and research in resource and environmental management.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our changing climate and more extreme weather events have dramatically increased the number and severity of floods across the world. Demonstrating the diversity of global flood risk management (FRM), this volume covers a range of topics including planning and policy, risk governance and communication, forecasting and warning, and economics. Through short case studies, the range of international examples from North America, Europe, Asia and Africa provide analysis of FRM efforts, processes and issues from human, governance and policy implementation perspectives. Written by an international set of authors, this collection of chapters and case studies will allow the reader to see how floods and flood risk management is experienced in different regions of the world. The way in which institutions manage flood risk is discussed, introducing the notions of realities and social constructions when it comes to risk management. The book will be of great interest to students and professionals of flood, coastal, river and natural hazard management, as well as risk analysis and insurance, demonstrating multiple academic frameworks of analysis and their utility and drawbacks when applied to real-life FRM contexts.
Book Synopsis One Health Surveillance in Practice: Experiences of Integration among Human Health, Animal Health, Environmental Health, and Food Safety Sectors by : Joaquin Prada
Download or read book One Health Surveillance in Practice: Experiences of Integration among Human Health, Animal Health, Environmental Health, and Food Safety Sectors written by Joaquin Prada and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-03-14 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recognizing that the human and animal health are interconnected brings along the challenge of integrating their respective health systems, including routine disease surveillance activities, outbreak management, and emergency preparedness. However, approaches in these different sectors are still unaligned in many ways, including their respective agendas, both at the country and the supranational levels. Several initiates have been launched to study and tackle this problem. Since the early 2000s, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the World Organization of Animal Health (OIE) paved the road of multi-sectorial One Health approaches and collaborations, leading to the recent publication of the Tripartite Zoonoses Guide. In Europe, the “One Health European Joint Programme” aims at fostering the transdisciplinary cooperation of activities that are relevant to One Health within and across European countries. Furthermore, various scientific networks and consortia have been set up to bring together professionals and experiences from different sectors. Integration is key to the One Health agenda, and to the challenge of future preparedness and response to foodborne pathogens and other emerging threats, both from an epidemiological and microbiological perspective. This Research Topic aims at describing first-hand, successful, inspirational (and possibly visionary), experiences about the integration of approaches, procedures and methodologies for One Health surveillance across the human health, animal health, environmental health, and food safety sectors, at the local, national, or supranational levels.
