Book Synopsis Food Into Cities by : Olivio Argenti
Download or read book Food Into Cities written by Olivio Argenti and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid growth of African cities means they have a great challenge in ensuring an adequate supply of food to satisfy their nutritional needs in terms of quantity, variety and taste, at accessible/affordable prices. Food supply and distribution systems (FSDS), whether formal or informal, are a key element. An efficient FSDS can increase the availability of food to the urban consumer, and at the same time increase the revenues of both traders and producers. However, there are a number of constraints that impede the efficiency of FSDS and these are discussed in the papers in this Bulletin that address the whole issue of food supply and food security. They are addressed towards urban managers and planners together with professionals and researchers concerned with urban food security.
Book Synopsis Food Dependency in the Middle East and North Africa Region by : Chantal Le Mouël
Download or read book Food Dependency in the Middle East and North Africa Region written by Chantal Le Mouël and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-10 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume covers the Middle-Eastern and North African regions who are increasingly dependent on imports from abroad for covering their domestic food needs. Results of this study show that this import dependence is likely to increase further by 2050. Some sub-regions hardly reach sustainable levels; the Maghreb, Near and Middle-East could import 60 to 70% of their food needs. These results are indicative whatever the considered scenario, but especially if climate change impacts become more severe.

Book Synopsis The Oxford Handbook of Food, Water and Society by : John Anthony Allan
Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Food, Water and Society written by John Anthony Allan and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 945 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Society's greatest use of water is in food production, which makes farmers central to global environmental management. Current food value chains, however, do not enable farmers to both feed a growing population and steward natural resources. Through a carefully curated collection of articles written by water and food system scientists and professionals, including farmers, this Oxford Handbook considers the interconnected issues of real water in the environment and "virtual water" in food value chains, and investigates society's influence on both. This perspective highlights considerable challenges for food security and environmental stewardship in the context of ongoing global change. The book discusses these issues by region and by selected commodities, emphasizing innovation needed for the food system to meet future challenges.

Book Synopsis Food and Agricultural Policies Under Structural Adjustment by : European Association of Agricultural Economists. Seminar
Download or read book Food and Agricultural Policies Under Structural Adjustment written by European Association of Agricultural Economists. Seminar and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 1994 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After more than a decade of experience with structural adjustment programs, the Hohenheim-Seminar of the European Association of Agricultural Economists «Food and Agricultural Policies under Structural Adjustment» brought together researchers and development experts to exchange research results and experiences; to explore alternative approaches that might be more effective for growth, institutional development and welfare; and to draw conclusions for food and agricultural policy design. The book consistently emphasizes that appart from agricultural prices non-price factors constitute in many countries the binding constraints to better agricultural performance. Improvements are needed in education, health, social services, transport and rural support institutions. Alleviating such constraints are longterm processes, and success cannot be expected overnight. At the same time, immediate actions are needed to protect the poor against negative effects of structural adjustment measures.
Download or read book Accélérer la réduction de la pauvreté en Afrique written by Kathleen Beegle and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2019-10-09 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
