Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses all important aspects of emergency medicine in older people, identifying the particular care needs of this population, which all too often remain unmet. The up-to-date and in-depth coverage will assist emergency physicians in identifying patients at risk for adverse outcomes, in conducting appropriate assessment, and in providing timely and adequate care. Particular attention is paid to the commonpitfalls in emergency management andmeans of avoiding them. Between 1980 and 2013, the number of older patients in emergency departmentsworldwide doubled. Compared with younger patients, older people suffer from more comorbidities, a higher mortality rate, require more complex assessment and diagnostic testing, and tend to stay longer in the emergency department. This book, written by internationally recognized experts in emergency medicine and geriatrics, not only presents the state of the art in the care of this population but also underlines the increasing need for adequate training and development in the field.

This book was released on 2012 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These guidelines have been developed to support countries to relieve pain in their paediatric populations. These guidelines address persisting pain in children caused by conditions such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, sickle-cell disease, burns, trauma, and phantom limb pain. Recommendations -- developed following a careful and transparent appraisal of available evidence -- are presented for the pharmacological treatment of mild, moderate and severe pain. The guidelines include chapters on the various systems used to classify pain and on the evaluation of pain, which reviews the available tools for routine pain measurement in children. Provision of sustainable pain relief within health care systems is covered in a separate chapter. Since morphine and other opioid analgesics -- required for the relief of moderate-to-severe pain in children -- are listed under the 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, the new guidelines include an annex explaining the Convention's requirements for the handling and procurement of opioid analgesics for the relief of pain.

The DREZ Operation includes: The neurobiology of the spinal cord dorsal horn and pathophysiology of neuropathic pain Intraoperative evoked potential recordings and impedance measurements Clinical aspects of the DREZ operation The surgical technique of the DREZ operation Pain syndromes treated by the DREZ operation (Distributed by Thieme for the American Association of Neurological Surgeons)

Beginning with a valuable clinical perspective of spinal trauma, the book offers the reader a unique overview of the biomechanics underlying the beautifully illustrated pathology of cervical trauma.Acute trauma topics include: Optimization of imaging modalities Malalignment -- signs and significance Vertebral fractures -- detection and implications Classification of thoraco-lumbar fractures -- rationale and relevance Neurovascular injury Distilling decades of clinical and teaching expertise, the contributors further discuss the current role of imaging in special focus topics, which include: The pediatric spine Sports injuries The rigid spine Trauma in the elderly Vertebral collapse, benign and malignant Spinal trauma therapy Vertebral fractures and osteoporosis Neuropathic spine All throughout the book, the focus is on understanding the injury, and its implications and complications, through an imaging approach. Lavishly illustrated with hundreds of superb MR images and CT scans, and clear full-color drawings, the authors conclude with a look into the future, defining clinical trends and research directions.Spinal Trauma -- with its broad scope, practical imaging approach, and current focus -- is designed to enhance confidence and accuracy, making it essential reading for clinicians and radiologists at all levels.
