Book Synopsis Intercultural Education by : Nektaria Palaiologou
Download or read book Intercultural Education written by Nektaria Palaiologou and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-11-01 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection highlights the diversity of perspectives within the broad field of intercultural education, focusing on education in modern multicultural societies, as well as exploring the role of migrant populations as modern citizens. The chapters examine these themes both through historical analysis, tracing the pathway of intercultural education back to ancient Greece, before focussing on modern multicultural societies. It also discusses intercultural learning issues in multicultural contexts, dynamic approaches and practical applications in modern classrooms and the main issues in teacher training in relation to immigrant students. The volume highlights the need to design more effective social and educational policies for immigrant populations, on the basis of respecting, protecting and supporting all social groups, irrelevant of their country of origin, racial or ethnic background, sexual orientation, socio-economic class or religious beliefs. It brings together conceptual and empirical contributions from well-known authors in the field as well as from younger scholars and researchers. The result is a mixture of ideas that will provide food for thought and discussion to an international readership. This book was originally published as a special issue of Intercultural Education.

Book Synopsis Modes of Play in Eighteenth-Century France by : Fayçal Falaky
Download or read book Modes of Play in Eighteenth-Century France written by Fayçal Falaky and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2021-11-12 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collecting diverse critical perspectives on the topic of play—from dolls, bilboquets, and lotteries, to writing itself—this volume offers new insights into how play was used to represent and reimagine the world in eighteenth-century France. In documenting various modes of play, contributors theorize its relation to law, religion, politics, and economics. Equally important was the role of “play” in plays, and the function of theatrical performance in mirroring, and often contesting, our place in the universe. These essays remind us that the spirit of play was very much alive during the “Age of Reason,” providing ways for its practitioners to consider more “serious” themes such as free will and determinism, illusions and equivocations, or chance and inequality. Standing at the intersection of multiple intellectual avenues, this is the first comprehensive study in English devoted to the different guises of play in Enlightenment France, certain to interest curious readers across disciplinary backgrounds.
Book Synopsis Integrating Indifference by : Virginie Van Ingelgom
Download or read book Integrating Indifference written by Virginie Van Ingelgom and published by ECPR Press. This book was released on 2024-08-22 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have European citizens become increasingly Eurosceptic over the last two decades, turning their backs on European integration? Though many journalists, politicians and academics argue that they have, this book suggests that reactions to European integration cannot be reduced uniquely to a rise in Euroscepticism, but that indifference and ambivalence need also to be brought into the picture when studying EU legitimacy and its politicisation. Drawing on new evidence from survey data from eight founding member states, and focus groups conducted in francophone Belgium, France and Great Britain, Integrating Indifference explores the various faces of citizens’ indifference, from fatalism, to detachment, via sheer indecision. This book adopts a pioneering mixed-methods approach to analysing the middle-of-the-road attitudes of ordinary citizens who consider themselves neither Europhiles nor Eurosceptics. Complementing existing quantitative and qualitative literature in the field, it opens up new perspectives on attitudes towards European integration.

Book Synopsis Das erweiterte Europa: Arbeitnehmerbeteiligung an der Entscheidungsfindung im Unternehmen by : Peter Jansen
Download or read book Das erweiterte Europa: Arbeitnehmerbeteiligung an der Entscheidungsfindung im Unternehmen written by Peter Jansen and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Le courage des alternatives by : Christoph Eberhard
Download or read book Le courage des alternatives written by Christoph Eberhard and published by KARTHALA Editions. This book was released on 2012 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Changing Face of African Literature / Les nouveaux visages de la littérature africaine by :
Download or read book The Changing Face of African Literature / Les nouveaux visages de la littérature africaine written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Changing Face of African Literature combines both the large picture – a synopsis of current trends in African literature – and the small: studies of individual texts and of themes across several texts. The large and the small are linked by recurring themes, such as gender and sexuality, the nation-state and its collapse, AIDS, war, and suffering. The volume is comparative, bringing together literature in at least five languages and from at least ten national literatures. Such a large, comparative frame is implied by most discussion of African literature but is too seldom seen. At the same time, the collection also problematizes the comparison: the goal is to make clear what African literatures have in common but also where they diverge. What difference do distinct literary traditions, readerships, and publishing patterns make to literatures which share a common thematic and so many of the same questions and needs? By juxtaposing contemporary texts form several traditions, the intention of this collection is to bring out the themes that are currently dominant in African literatures generally. After a preface by Liz Gunner and a wide-ranging introduction by the editors, the collection presents keynote essays on new paradigms in African literature, before treating specific themes – recent crime fiction, the Afrikaans and anglophone novel, feminist literature, ‘migritude’ – and studies of recent works by individual authors such as André Brink, Henri Djombo, Pie Tshibanda, Bessora, Nadine Gordimer, and Paulina Chiziane, as well as the South African television series Yizo Yizo.

Download or read book Mouvements sociaux et logiques d'acteurs. Les ONG de développement face à la mondialisation et à l’Etat au Maroc. written by Bouchra Sidi Hida and published by Presses univ. de Louvain. This book was released on 2007 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Arméniens et grecs en diaspora written by Michel Bruneau and published by Ecole Francaise d'Athenes. This book was released on 2007 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of the fourth century BC temple of Apollon at Delphi is the outcome of a collaboration between the archaeologist Pierre Amandry and the architect Erik Hansen. Circumstances did not permit the creation of a common text. It has therefore been decided that the articles by Pierre Amandry on the monument should be reprinted, followed by the architectural study by Erik Hansen. The main goal of the latter is to describe the temple stone by stone, by mapping the procedures of the artisans, and to give the most faithful image possible of the activities on a building site in Antiquity. As it happens, we are fortunate to possess not only the ruins of the building itself, but also fragments of the construction accounts drawn up during the work, which provide an idea of the organisation of the building site, its evolution and the costs involved. The two sources are complementary and permit establishing the construction calendar which stretches over a period of 34 years, from 367 to 333 BC, with a ten-year interruption due to the third 'sacred war' between 356 and 346 BC. A change of architect in 340, Agathon succeeding Xenodoros, appears to be connected with a reorganisation of the interior space in the area occupied by the famous oracle of Delphi.
Book Synopsis Die Kinder der Immigration by : Ernstpeter Ruhe
Download or read book Die Kinder der Immigration written by Ernstpeter Ruhe and published by Königshausen & Neumann. This book was released on 1999 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Francophone Perspectives of Learning Through Work by : Laurent Filliettaz
Download or read book Francophone Perspectives of Learning Through Work written by Laurent Filliettaz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book generates a comprehensive account of ways in which practice-based learning has been conceptualized in the Francophone context. Learning for occupations, and the educational and practice-based experiences supporting it are the subject of increased interest and attention globally. Governments, professional bodies, workplaces and workers are now looking for experiences that support the initial and ongoing development of occupational capacities. Consequently, more attention is being given to workplaces as sites for this learning. This focus on learning through work has long been emphasised in the Francophone world, which has developed distinct traditions and conceptions of associations between work and learning. These include ergonomics and professional didactics. Yet, whilst being accepted and of long standing in the Francophone world, these conceptions and traditions, and the practices supporting them are little known about or understood in the Anglophone world, which is the dominant medium for scientific and educational discussion. This book addresses this problem through drawing on accounts from France, Switzerland and Canada that make accessible and elaborate these traditions, conceptions and practices through examples of their applications to occupationally related learning. These accounts offer variations and culturally-specific developments of these traditions, but collectively emphasize a preoccupation with how both work and learning need to be understood through situated considerations of persons enacting their work practice. In this way, they offer noteworthy and worthwhile contributions to contemporary global considerations of learning through work.
