Book Synopsis Cinéma Militant by : Paul Douglas Grant
Download or read book Cinéma Militant written by Paul Douglas Grant and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This history covers the filmmaking tradition often referred to as cinéma militant, which emerged in France during the events of May 1968 and flourished for a decade. While some films produced were created by established filmmakers, including Chris Marker, Jean-Luc Godard, and William Klein, others were helmed by left-wing filmmakers working in the extreme margins of French cinema. This latter group gave voice to underrepresented populations, such as undocumented immigrants (sans papiers), entry-level factory workers (ouvriers spécialisés), highly intellectual Marxist-Leninist collectives, and militant special interest groups. While this book spans the broad history of this uncharted tradition, it particularly focuses on these lesser-known figures and works and the films of Cinélutte, Les groupes medvedkine, Atelier de recherche cinématographique, Cinéthique, and the influential Marxist filmmaker Jean-Pierre Thorn. Each represent a certain tendency of this movement in French film history, offering an invaluable account of a tradition that also sought to share untold histories.
Book Synopsis Experimental Evaluation Design for Program Improvement by : Laura R. Peck
Download or read book Experimental Evaluation Design for Program Improvement written by Laura R. Peck and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2019-09-12 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concepts of cause and effect are critical to the field of program evaluation. Experimentally-designed evaluations—those that randomize to treatment and control groups—offer a convincing means for establishing a causal connection between a program and its effects. Experimental Evaluation Design for Program Improvement considers a range of impact evaluation questions, particularly those questions that focus on the impact of specific aspects of a program. Laura R. Peck shows how a variety of experimental evaluation design options can provide answers to these questions, and she suggests opportunities for experiments to be applied in more varied settings and focused on program improvement efforts.

Book Synopsis Lifestyle Migration by : Michaela Benson
Download or read book Lifestyle Migration written by Michaela Benson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relatively affluent individuals from various corners of the globe are increasingly choosing to migrate, spurred on by the promise of a better and more fulfilling way of life within their destination. Despite its increasing scale, migration academics have yet to consolidate and establish lifestyle migration as a subfield of theoretical enquiry, until now. This volume offers a dynamic and holistic analysis of contemporary lifestyle migrations, exploring the expectations and aspirations which inform and drive migration alongside the realities of life within the destination. It also recognizes the structural conditions (and constraints) which frame lifestyle migration, laying the groundwork for further intellectual enquiry. Through rich empirical case studies this volume addresses this important and increasingly common form of migration in a manner that will interest scholars of mobility, migration, lifestyle and culture across the social sciences.

Book Synopsis Leadership, Discourse, and Ethnicity by : Janet Holmes
Download or read book Leadership, Discourse, and Ethnicity written by Janet Holmes and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2011-12-05 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book in the field of workplace discourse to examine the relationships among leadership, ethnicity, and language use. Taking a social constructionist approach to the ways in which leadership is enacted through discourse, Leadership, Discourse, and Ethnicity problematizes the concept of ethnicity and demonstrates the importance of context-particularly the community of practice-in determining what counts as relevant in the analysis of ethnicity. The authors analyse everyday workplace interactions supplemented by interview data to examine the ways in which workplace leaders use language to achieve their transactional and relational goals in contrasting "ethnicized" contexts, two of which are Maori and two European/Pakeha. Their analysis pays special attention to the roles of ethnic values, beliefs and orientations in talk.
Book Synopsis European Feminisms, 1700-1950 by : Karen M. Offen
Download or read book European Feminisms, 1700-1950 written by Karen M. Offen and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ambitious book explores challenges to male hegemony throughout continental Europe over the past 250 years. For general readers and those interested primarily in the historical record, it provides a comprehensive, comparative account of feminist developments in European societies, as well as a rereading of European history from a feminist perspective. By placing gender, or relations between women and men, at the center of European politics, it aims to reconfigure our understanding of the European past and to make visible a long but neglected tradition of feminist thought and politics. On another level the book seeks to disentangle some misperceptions and to demystify some confusing contemporary debates about the Enlightenment, reason, nature, and public vs. private, equality vs. difference. In the process, the author aims to show that gender is not merely 'a useful category of analysis', but that sexual difference lies at the heart of human thought and politics.
