Mis à part le dernier, tous ces volumes ont été publiés en co-édition par les Presses Universitaires de Lille.Conformément à l'intitulé de la série, Guillaume traite ici à la fois de questions de grammaire particulière, souvent très ténues, et de problèmes connexes relevant de ce qu'il appelle la "grammaire générale", comme par exemple la distinction langue/discours, la congruence du fait de parole (système phonologique) et du fait de pensée (système psychique), dont la recherche est "le véritable moteur de l'évolution linguistique", ou encore le principe de l'unité de la condition de langue en face de la multiplicité des conséquences de discours (les "effets de sens").Parmi les nombreuses questions particulières traitées dans ce volume, on retiendra notamment, dans le plan verbal, l'analyse de la représentation temporelle au mode subjonctif en français, à propos de laquelle est apporté un éclairage nouveau sur le rapport entre la valeur des formes en système et leur valeur en emploi. Dans le plan nominal, à partir du mécanisme d'incidence, Guillaume consacre près de la moitié de ses leçons à la syntaxe de l'adjectif en français.
