Book Synopsis Les paradoxes de l'économie du savoir by : GUILHON Bernard
Download or read book Les paradoxes de l'économie du savoir written by GUILHON Bernard and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2012-09-14 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis French Economy and the State by : Warren C. Baum
Download or read book French Economy and the State written by Warren C. Baum and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern France is often referred to as the "sick man of Europe." With attention focused on the all-pervasive role of the state, Mr. Baum makes a revealing diagnosis. He provides a full view into the structure and performance of the French economy, dealing first with government efforts to solve certain general problems: reconstruction of the economic system, controlling cycles of inflation and recession, and closing the large gap in the balance of payments. After discussing the state's traditional role of public financier and its less orthodox role as entrepreneur in the large sector of the economy now under public ownership, he shows how the state acts as a regulator of private enterprise in industry and agriculture. Mr. Baum’s extensive use of original French source material and discussions with French officials in business and government make this book a unique contribution to understanding modern France. Book Synopsis Economy and Society in Burgundy Since 1850 by : Robert Aldrich
Download or read book Economy and Society in Burgundy Since 1850 written by Robert Aldrich and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-01-20 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 1984 Economy and Society in Burgundy Since 1850 provides a comprehensive overview of the modern history of Burgundy. Burgundy is best known for its wine and its capital of Dijon is most often associated with mustard. Yet the region’s modern history is more than a history of gastronomy. The coming of the railways in the 1850s greatly changed the economic life of the area, spurring the growth of Dijon and contributing to rural depopulation. Agricultural crises throughout the nineteenth century, such as phylloxera epidemic in the vineyards, caused further dislocation in rural life. Even in the twentieth century, the countryside remained agricultural while the city of Dijon owes its dynamism to the expansion of the service sector rather than to heavy industry. This book argues that this evolution -modernisation without industrialization- is not a matter of economic retardation but of the suitability of the region’s natural resources and the intentional choice of its population. Rich in archival sources this book is an interesting read for scholars and researchers of French history, European history, and modern history.

Book Synopsis Feeding African Cities by : Jane Guyer
Download or read book Feeding African Cities written by Jane Guyer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1987, this book traces the broad outlines of urban food policy, drawing attention to the limited knowledge of regional social history. Urban food supply systems in Africa have developed very fast, in the midst of societies in which food production was not in general oriented to feeding distant populations of 'specialist consumers'. Institutional and political links had to be forged between town and country if food supply was to be cheap and predictable. This volume explores the political and material dynamics of urban food supply through 4 case studies: Kano, Yaoundé, Dar es Salaam and Harare.
