Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY THE NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW, LOS ANGELES TIMES, SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE, AND PUBLISHERS WEEKLY For more than four hundred years, the art of ballet has stood at the center of Western civilization. Its traditions serve as a record of our past. Lavishly illustrated and beautifully told, Apollo’s Angels—the first cultural history of ballet ever written—is a groundbreaking work. From ballet’s origins in the Renaissance and the codification of its basic steps and positions under France’s Louis XIV (himself an avid dancer), the art form wound its way through the courts of Europe, from Paris and Milan to Vienna and St. Petersburg. In the twentieth century, émigré dancers taught their art to a generation in the United States and in Western Europe, setting off a new and radical transformation of dance. Jennifer Homans, a historian, critic, and former professional ballerina, wields a knowledge of dance born of dedicated practice. Her admiration and love for the ballet, as Entertainment Weekly notes, brings “a dancer’s grace and sure-footed agility to the page.”

Drawing on the intimate rhythms of the tango to find its shape, Jones has written a thrilling and sensuous essay on how we can fall in love, while brilliantly evoking the spare and windswept landscapes of New Zealand’s South Island and the stately sensuous contours of one of the world’s most famous dances.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rhythmic Einreibungen consist of gentle forms of therapeutic massage by nurses, caregivers, and therapists familiar with the methods and principles of Anthroposophy. The German word Einreibung refers to the application of oil or liniments to the body. The methods, first developed eighty years ago by doctors Ita Wegman and Margarethe Hauschka, were initially used only in medicine and nursing. They have since been applied more broadly in other areas of healthcare, nursing homes, hospitals, clinics, special education, and social therapies. This clear, comprehensive manual is intended for all those who wish to use rhythmical Einreibungen professionally or to renew and deepen their knowledge; those who have had some training in the field and want to deepen their knowledge; those who teach rhythmical Einreibungen; and those who would like an in-depth introduction to this effective healing method. The book describes aspects of the anthroposophic image of the human being that are relevant within the context. It discusses important concepts for the application and effectiveness of rhythmical Einreibungen. The book also distinguishes between rhythmical massage and rhythmical Einreibungen and offers details on how the rhythmic quality is created for this particular therapy. The authors also describe the techniques most important in nursing and offer specific exercises that help develop the particular skills needed for this procedure. Dr. Margarethe Hauschka Stavenhagen, (1896-1980) encountered Anthroposophy before becoming a medical doctor. She learned techniques of massage during her initial employment in her uncle's clinic. As a preparation for her work in Dr. Husemann's clinic, and on his suggestion, she studied therapeutic eurythmy and, later, helped Dr. Ita Wegman develop the method of the rhythmic massage. In 1942, she marriage Dr. Rudolf Hauschka in Vienna. Until her death in 1980, she taught and lectured on rhythmic massage and art therapy.

Through this inspiring and uplifting book, Lorna reveals how we can call on the help of angels to carry us through the difficulties that we all inevitably face, including loneliness, depression, stress, financial strain, heartbreak, the death of a loved one, or feelings of inadequacy. No matter what obstacles you encounter, you can always call on the support of angels to make your life happier and more fulfilling.

Punctuated throughout with real-life stories from both Irish people and visitors to the 'Emerald Isle', it will show that although being Irish isn't necessarily a prerequisite for seeing angels, it can certainly act as a catalyst. Many Irish people have grown up with stories of guardian angels and protector saints like St Patrick, so their insights and stories provide the perfect launching point to help others connect with their own angels. Here are stories of miraculous healing from this mysterious and sacred land, which has historical associations with the divine. This book will encourage spiritual seekers of all ages to make a pilgrimage to Ireland or, if that isn't possible, to feed their souls with Celtic spirituality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do we perdure when we and everything around us are caught up in incessant change? But the course of this change does not seem to be haphazard and we may seek the modalities of its Logos in the transformations in which it occurs. The classic term 'Metamorphosis' focuses upon the proportions between the transformed and the retained, the principles of sameness and otherness. Applied to life and its becoming, metamorphosis pinpoints the proportions between the vital and the aesthetic significance of life. Where could this metaphysical in-between territory come better to light than in the Fine Arts? In this collection are investigated the various proportions between the vital significance of the constructivism of life and a specifically human contribution made by the creative imagination to the transformatory search for beauty and aesthetic values. Book excerpt: The inspiring words of Emmanuel, brought to us through channel Pat Rodegast, have opened the way to wisdom for thousands of people. In our troubled world, his loving message, so beautifully expressed, has been balm for the hurting soul as well as clear guidance for living—both with others on this earth and within the Self. Now Emmanual focuses on a special topic, the question of Angels. Do they exist? What do they do? Where are they? Are there fallen angels? What do they mean for our lives? His answers tell us not about the mystical creatures “out there.” But about the marvelous, powerful being “in here,” the eternal, omnipresent Angel who is always with us and waiting to be found. In moments of need, despair, pain, and terror, when we cry out for help and for truth, Emmanuel shows us where the doorway lies that leads away from fear and toward the way Home.

Evie Thomas doesn't believe in love anymore. Especially after the strangest thing occurs one otherwise ordinary afternoon: She witnesses a couple kiss and is overcome with a vision of how their romance began . . . and how it will end. After all, even the greatest love stories end with a broken heart, eventually. As Evie tries to understand why this is happening, she finds herself at La Brea Dance Studio, learning to waltz, fox-trot, and tango with a boy named X. X is everything that Evie is not: adventurous, passionate, daring. His philosophy is to say yes to everything--including entering a ballroom dance competition with a girl he's only just met. Falling for X is definitely not what Evie had in mind. If her visions of heartbreak have taught her anything, it's that no one escapes love unscathed. But as she and X dance around and toward each other, Evie is forced to question all she thought she knew about life and love. In the end, is love worth the risk?

Belinda Womack was a believer in Angels until the age of 12, when she decided she wanted to become a scientist. Years later, working in a biology lab, she found herself in the presence of the Archangel Gabriel and realized her calling as a spiritual conduit for Angelic healing and support. In this book she shares lessons, practices, and daily guidance from the 12 Archangels to help us listen to and heal our wounded inner child, release our fears, and enact deep subconscious transformation. Each word, transmitted directly from the 12 Archangels, carries their love, so that when read, the love is absorbed into the reader’s mind and supports the release of our deepest wounds and fears.
