Book excerpt: The title, Learn to Live: Toughen Up along with the subtitle, Jesus is a Tough Guy, is meant to draw attention to the importance of learning the Bible and making proper application to Christian living. The purpose of this book is to help people make the connection between the Bible and personal problem solving. I believe the Bible has the answer or solution to every problem. The most difficult part of problem solving is figuring out how to find the solution and make the application. We have become familiar with Donald Trump's phrase, "Make America Great Again." Adaptations of the phrase have popped up everywhere. I think the church should adopt the phrase, "Make the Bible Great Again." It's time to close the gap between problem solving and biblical understanding. God is the "Answer Man." The Bible is the "Answer Book." Jesus is the "world's greatest teacher." Therefore, we should become great learners. That's how we "Learn to Live." This book is an analysis of how Jesus dealt with his problems. He is our prime example for problem solving, behavior and attitude. Jesus was loving, kind, and compassionate; but he also was very tough. Every great person in the Bible was a tough guy, and every great woman was a tough gal. We just need to take our Bible and Learn to Live: Toughen Up. I want to follow a tough leader. Jesus was a Tough Guy.

Part of what comes with this new territory is the result of a very intentionally played long game that has worked for over sixty years to bring about these changes. Those who have worked so hard to change manhood and masculinity have done so with no regard at all for God or His plan. These organizations and their members have been relentless in their pursuit of removing God and His plan from our society. The long game has been played to perfection, and now we who love the Lord and His design for man must make changes in order to take back the ground which has been stolen. We must be willing to do so with a WIT (whatever it takes) mentality because the cost has been way too high. Before another generation of boys grow up without understanding what real manhood and masculinity are supposed to look like, we who love the Lord and America must stand. In this great read, Matt lays out the problem and how we got here. He gives you an assessment that must come before the fix. He then demonstrates the correction that is necessary to reverse the current state of affairs. Lastly, Matt walks through the reality of biblical manhood.

Book excerpt: My Purpose in writing this Book: It is a gift to the countless children and young people who have lived with the fear of threatening ghosts they could not tell anyone about. Ghosts are frustrated souls terrified of the Judgment Day. They avoid the Light because of unresolved Karma and are drawn to the innocence of children for help. This is the story of my personal life guided by paranormal experiences. My childhood development was interrupted by sexual abuse when I was 6 years old. I was confused and desperate until “the Watcher” came to my rescue. I experienced fear and self-doubt growing up, but whenever evil cast a dark shadow across my path, he showed me many psychic gifts that served to protect me. Once I understood my paranormal experiences were gifts I could use, I was able to overcome my fear. I want to share this blessing with all who have suffered in silence. In The Psychic’s Guide to the Universe, you will find the answers you need. With all my Love, Betty Roschlau

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When should you engage with difficult arguments against your cherished controversial beliefs? The primary conclusion of this book is that your obligations to engage with counterarguments are more limited than is often thought. In some standard situations, you shouldn't engage with difficult counterarguments and, if you do, you shouldn't engage with them open-mindedly. This conclusion runs counter to aspects of the Millian political tradition and political liberalism, as well as what people working in informal logic tend to say about argumentation. Not all misleading arguments wear their flaws on their sleeve. Each step of a misleading argument might seem compelling and you might not be able to figure out what's wrong with it. Still, even if you can't figure out what's wrong with an argument, you can know that it's misleading. One way to know that an argument is misleading is, counterintuitively, to lack expertise in the methods and evidence-types employed by the argument. When you know that a counterargument is misleading, you shouldn't engage with it open-mindedly and sometimes shouldn't engage with it at all. You shouldn't engage open-mindedly because you shouldn't be willing to reduce your confidence in response to arguments you know are misleading. And you sometimes shouldn't engage closed-mindedly, because to do so can be manipulative or ineffective. In making this case, Jeremy Fantl discusses echo chambers and group polarization, the importance in academic writing of a sympathetic case for the opposition, the epistemology of disagreement, the account of open-mindedness, and invitations to problematic academic speakers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The challenges of teaching a successful introductory sociology course today demand materials from a publisher very different from the norm. Texts that are organized the way the discipline structures itself intellectually no longer connect with the majority of student learners. This is not an issue of pandering to students or otherwise seeking the lowest common denominator. On the contrary, it is a question of again making the practice of sociological thinking meaningful, rigorous, and relevant to today’s world of undergraduates. This comparatively concise, highly visual, and affordable book offers a refreshingly new way forward to reach students, using one of the most powerful tools in a sociologist’s teaching arsenal—the familiar stuff in students’ everyday lives throughout the world: the jeans they wear to class, the coffee they drink each morning, or the phones their professors tell them to put away during lectures. A focus on consumer culture, seeing the strange in the familiar, is not only interesting for students; it is also (the authors suggest) pedagogically superior to more traditional approaches. By engaging students through their stuff, this book moves beyond teaching about sociology to helping instructors teach the practice of sociological thinking. It moves beyond describing what sociology is, so that students can practice what sociological thinking can do. This pedagogy also posits a relationship between teacher and learner that is bi-directional. Many students feel a sense of authority in various areas of consumer culture, and they often enjoy sharing their knowledge with fellow students and with their instructor. Opening up the sociology classroom to discussion of these topics validates students’ expertise on their own life-worlds. Teachers, in turn, gain insight from the goods, services, and cultural expectations that shape students’ lives. While innovative, the book has been carefully crafted to make it as useful and flexible as possible for instructors aiming to build core sociological foundations in a single semester. A map on pages ii–iii identifies core sociological concepts covered so that a traditional syllabus as well as individual lectures can easily be maintained. Theory, method, and active learning exercises in every chapter constantly encourage the sociological imagination as well as the "doing" of sociology.

Michael Hill believes it's possible to succeed in a downturn - in fact, it is the perfect situation in which to perfect a business. International jewellery store-chain owner Michael Hill believes the struggling economy can be a good thing for businesses and entrepreneurs. Instead of fearing the side-effects of recession, wallowing in gloom and convincing ourselves the only safe haven is at home under the blankets, entrepreneurs can use this period to their advantage. With the right attitude, you can not only survive, but also emerge from the crunch with a new feeling of prosperity and strength. Over the years, Michael Hill has had just about every possible experience in business: from lie-awake-at-night nerves to the joy of unexpected success. He's reshaped the landscape under his feet and he has ventured into new territory. And at every moment, he has relished the excitement of it all. Once, he was an outsider in his industry; the cheeky startup whom nobody expected to succeed. The established players had no reason to view him as a threat. Now, his business is the establishment. It dominates the markets in which it operates. Michael Hill Jeweller is a respected part of the business culture in a large part of the world - and they are continuing to expand in both size and ambition. This book encapsulates the ingredients of Michael's philosophy. There are no secret herbs and spices. It is not a magic recipe - it is just a collection of solid ideas, firmly grounded in reality. All these concepts are remarkable only because they make common-sense - but you'd be amazed how rarely they are fully understood and embraced in the business world.
