Book Synopsis formZ Joint Study Report 2004-05 by : Chris Yessios
Download or read book formZ Joint Study Report 2004-05 written by Chris Yessios and published by auto•des*sys, Inc.. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Material published in this edition is compiled by Dr. Chris Yessios. While no attempt was made to group the articles, since each is quite unique, they can be viewed under a number of thematic categories. There are at least 7 articles that deal more or less directly with the use of digital tools for the generation of innovative forms. Another 8 articles present specific building designs and 5 more present specific urban design schemes. The common denominator for all is the use of the digital tools to create forms that are distinctly different from traditional forms. A group of some 6 papers specifically discusses and compares digital versus analogue methodologies. In all cases, the former are more persuasive. Fabrication or computer aided manufacturing (CAM) is represented by at least 3 papers, while hints of digital fabrication can be found in a number of other papers as well. 6 articles are directly concerned with education: either the theoretical ties of digital design to “ancient principals” or how to de- velop particular skills. The only paper from a high school elaborates on this topic. Finally, there are 5 articles that cannot be grouped with the above categories but would fit in a category possibly labeled “miscellaneous theories.” For example, “Transforming Habit” and “Interpreting Babel” would belong to such a category.

Book Synopsis Ways to Study and Research Urban, Architectural and Technical Design by : T.M. de Jong
Download or read book Ways to Study and Research Urban, Architectural and Technical Design written by T.M. de Jong and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can we develop a scientific basis for architectural, urban and technical design? When can a design be labelled as scientific output, comparable with a scientific report? What are the similarities and dis-similarities between design and empirical research, and between design research, typological research, design study and study by design? Is there a need for a particular methodology for design driven study and research? With these questions in mind, more than forty members of the Faculty of Architecture of the Delft University of Technology have described their ways of study and research. Each chapter shows the objectives, the methodology and its implementation in search for a deeper knowledge of design processes and an optimal quality of the design itself. The authors - among them architects, urban planners, social scientists, lawyers, technicians and information scientists – have widely differing backgrounds. Nevertheless, they share a great deal. The central focus is a better understanding of design processes, design tools and the effects of design interventions on issues such as utility, aesthetics meaning, sustainability and feasibility.

Book Synopsis Architecture and Engineering by : Oleg Kapliński
Download or read book Architecture and Engineering written by Oleg Kapliński and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-12-18 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is addressed to architects and civil engineers. Design and research are areas connecting their activities. The contents of the book confirm the fact that the interface between architecture and engineering is multidimensional. The ways of finding points of contact between the two industries are highlighted. This is favored by the dynamically changing reality, supported by new design paradigms and new research techniques. The multithreaded subject matter of the articles is reduced to six sections: Research Scopes, Methods, Design Aspects, Context, Nature of Research, and Economy and Cost Calculation. Each of the articles in these six blocks has its weight. And so, in the Nature of Research section, the following areas have been underscored: laboratory tests, in situ research, field investigations, and street perception experiments. The section Design Aspects includes design-oriented thinking, geometrical forms, location of buildings, cost prediction, attractor and distractor elements, and shaping spatial structures. The new design and research tools are an inspiration and a keystone bonding architects and engineers.
