This book was released on 2017-11-27 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn and Teach Swahili by yourself is advanced stage of a Kiswahili learner as foreigner. With this stage you should be with your interaction with language because now you are comfortable at manipulating your own sentences and constructions. As reminded earlier in the beginner's level, Kiswahili language is among the easiest language to learn over the world's languages. This is due the fact that, you pronounce a word as you write it. This is contrary to Indo-European languages such as German, English and French to mention just a few whose pronunciations are quite different from how they are written. With this book in your hand you will find your life very easy due to the friendly ways or learning this language as presented by your coach who is 'me'. I have enough experience on teaching Kiswahili as a second language for foreigners. Specifically I have taught students from ACM programme, Brown, Florida, Ohio and Georgetown all of these students were from United States of America. Also I taught students from Japan, China, South Korea, South Africa, Ghana, and UK. I have 12 years experience now in this field.I will give you a secret to fulfill your dreams. Here's the secret, in the first week after you have started learning or teaching this language by yourself, you should try to acquire more than fifty new vocabularies. In week two, three times of the first week. From the third week to a month, more than a thousand new vocabularies should be acquired. In addition to this, you as a learner you are supposed to construct five sentences in week one. In week two, you are supposed to write a story about half a page. Week three, you are supposed to write one page story while in week four, you should write two pages (I call them 'story' but you can just call essay). You can write about yourself or about your lovely dog. You can also write from the tours to museums, or trips to Mount Kilimanjaro or Serengeti. Or you can write from your experiences gained so far in your interaction with Kiswahili. Or otherwise you can compose or write a story or essay about what things made you happy or worse in a new environment (in case you have decided to travel abroad to Tanzania to have interaction with language, culture and people). Or you can write about your host family in Tanzania, et cetera.Kiswahili is one of the simplest languages to learn as I have said early and this is due to the fact that, "you write a word as it is pronounced" compared to other languages which differ in writing from the way they are pronounced. Interacting with native speakers will improve your pronunciation as long as you will listen to the way people communicate with each other. With this intermediate level the book will expose you to moderate complex Kiswahili grammatical processes that are crucial for your second step towards mastering Kiswahili language. Among the topics covered in this manual are as follows: Demonstratives in Kiswahilli; Association markers in Kiswahili; Relative markers; Passive voice; Causatives; Statives; Reciprocal; Applicative; Kiswahili word order; Useful Kiswahili phrases and Kiswahili colour system. Every topic has some examples on how to go about, together with simple exercises which have their answers at the back. Enjoy your study.

When you master it, you have done with Kiswahili. Many Kiswahili books are not user friendly. This is due to how they have treated these noun classes but, with this manual you will enjoy yourself. All nouns are treated in appropriate noun class with other grammatical processes like possessive marker, relative markers and many others. Also, sample questions are there with their answers. Every topic has some examples on how to go about, together with simple exercises which have their answers at the back. Enjoy your study.

Book excerpt: In this instant New York Times bestseller, Angela Duckworth shows anyone striving to succeed that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent, but a special blend of passion and persistence she calls “grit.” “Inspiration for non-geniuses everywhere” (People). The daughter of a scientist who frequently noted her lack of “genius,” Angela Duckworth is now a celebrated researcher and professor. It was her early eye-opening stints in teaching, business consulting, and neuroscience that led to her hypothesis about what really drives success: not genius, but a unique combination of passion and long-term perseverance. In Grit, she takes us into the field to visit cadets struggling through their first days at West Point, teachers working in some of the toughest schools, and young finalists in the National Spelling Bee. She also mines fascinating insights from history and shows what can be gleaned from modern experiments in peak performance. Finally, she shares what she’s learned from interviewing dozens of high achievers—from JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon to New Yorker cartoon editor Bob Mankoff to Seattle Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll. “Duckworth’s ideas about the cultivation of tenacity have clearly changed some lives for the better” (The New York Times Book Review). Among Grit’s most valuable insights: any effort you make ultimately counts twice toward your goal; grit can be learned, regardless of IQ or circumstances; when it comes to child-rearing, neither a warm embrace nor high standards will work by themselves; how to trigger lifelong interest; the magic of the Hard Thing Rule; and so much more. Winningly personal, insightful, and even life-changing, Grit is a book about what goes through your head when you fall down, and how that—not talent or luck—makes all the difference. This is “a fascinating tour of the psychological research on success” (The Wall Street Journal).

Book excerpt: The Way of The Linguist, A language learning odyssey. It is now a cliché that the world is a smaller place. We think nothing of jumping on a plane to travel to another country or continent. The most exotic locations are now destinations for mass tourism. Small business people are dealing across frontiers and language barriers like never before. The Internet brings different languages and cultures to our finger-tips. English, the hybrid language of an island at the western extremity of Europe seems to have an unrivalled position as an international medium of communication. But historically periods of cultural and economic domination have never lasted forever. Do we not lose something by relying on the wide spread use of English rather than discovering other languages and cultures? As citizens of this shrunken world, would we not be better off if we were able to speak a few languages other than our own? The answer is obviously yes. Certainly Steve Kaufmann thinks so, and in his busy life as a diplomat and businessman he managed to learn to speak nine languages fluently and observe first hand some of the dominant cultures of Europe and Asia. Why do not more people do the same? In his book The Way of The Linguist, A language learning odyssey, Steve offers some answers. Steve feels anyone can learn a language if they want to. He points out some of the obstacles that hold people back. Drawing on his adventures in Europe and Asia, as a student and businessman, he describes the rewards that come from knowing languages. He relates his evolution as a language learner, abroad and back in his native Canada and explains the kind of attitude that will enable others to achieve second language fluency. Many people have taken on the challenge of language learning but have been frustrated by their lack of success. This book offers detailed advice on the kind of study practices that will achieve language breakthroughs. Steve has developed a language learning system available online at: www.thelinguist.com.

Book excerpt: The Sabaki languages form a major Bantu subgroup and are spoken by 35 million East Africans in Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and the Comoro Islands. The authors provide a historical/comparative treatment of Swahili (and other Sabaki languages), an account of the relationship of Swahili to Sabaki and to other Bantu languages, and some data on contemporary Sabaki languages. Data sets, appendices, maps, and figures present essential information on phonology, lexical makeup, and tense/aspect morphology. The final chapter is a synthesis describing the linguistic and historical relationship of the Sabaki dialects to each other and to hypothetical proto-stages.
