The Salvation Army's ecclesiology has been essentially pragmatic and has developed in comparative isolation from the wider church, perhaps with a greater role being played by sociological processes than by theological reflection in its development. The Army continues to exhibit a tension between its theology, which supports equality of status, and its military structure, which works against equality, and both schools of thought flourish within its ranks.

These interviews were conducted and examined, focusing on The Salvation Army's view on salvation. The leadership Training Program for this project was successfully managed and directed to train small group leaders who would obtain the qualities of servant leadership as shepherds in order to devote themselves to build the identity of The Salvation Army. Finally, the results of this study suggest that those who participated in the Leadership Training Program have achieved a great stock of knowledge about church and society, the doctrine of The Salvation Army, the concept of The Salvation Army, The Salvation Army’s view on salvation, and the biblical and theological understanding of salvation. The writer found that the small group leaders who participated in the Leadership Training Program were very satisfied with the program and were happy to be the members of The Salvation Army Grace Church.

Book excerpt: Working for an international, religious, not-for-profit organization has advantages and disadvantages. Advantages include job security, scheduling freedom depending on your position within the organization, a wide variety of resources, and the trust of the Canadian public regarding our social work. Disadvantages are more internal than external. These include having varying stances on our doctrine and what we believe, constantly having to remind the congregation our "mission" focuses on those outside of our walls and not on the congregation, as well as, figuring out what ministries we do best as The Salvation Army in Canada and funneling resources towards those ministries. The Mission Statement of The Salvation Army in Canada (2019) states, "The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world." Individuals, who become Officers with the Canada and Bermuda Territory, sign a covenant between the individual and God promising what the Officer is committed to do. The covenant states, "to love and serve [God] supremely all of my days, to live to win souls and make their salvation the first purpose of my life, to care for the poor, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, love the unloved, and befriend those who have no friends" (Salvationist.org, 2019). My organizational issue is a disadvantage The Salvation Army in Canada brought on itself: figuring out what ministries we do best as The Salvation Army in Canada and funneling resources towards those ministries. Are we doing too many ministries and, therefore, doing none of them well? Should we focus on congregational or social ministry? Where do we focus first for the greatest impact organizationally? I believe this lack on understanding of the purpose of what it means to be an Officer in The Salvation Army leads to the decline in Officer numbers. According to The Salvation Army Corps Ministries Department (2020), in 2006 the Canada and Bermuda Territory had 962 active Officer personnel, compared to 590 in 2020. Before the above questions can even start being answered, I want to focus on why we're losing Officer leaders and provide a plan to connect, and reconnect, Officers to the mission, vision, and purpose of The Salvation Army. First, we need a general call back to holiness and what it means to be a "holiness movement." Secondly, I propose an Officer mentorship program for The Salvation Army to fully grasp what it means to be a Salvation Officer in Canada in 2021 and how to utilize the Officer force. This Leadership Integration Project breaks down my leadership journey, my Birkman assessment results, three main areas of focus within The Salvation Army for the desired change and concluding with the final implementation plan of the required changes.
